SCREAM QUEENS: SHADY'S LEADING LADIES!
Vol. 1: Guys and Dolls... (and a Cute Little Pup)

I am..... Dracula!

You might remember my band, The Twilights, and our hit record
"Transylvania 6-5000." It was big in our neck of the woods.
Tonight, as the full moon rises,  command  invite you to
join me as I introduce two charming young ladies.
(Well, one of them is more than 500 years old.)
They hope to win your heart with the songs
they play on S-P-M-M Retrosonic Radio.

I BITE. I SUCK.
THEY DON'T.
Now let us meet and greet these
Shady Bunch deejay apprentices.

"Puppy Love" - Barbara Lewis (Feb./Mar. 1964,
highest chart pos. #38 Hot 100 & R&B/#58 Cash Box)

Kicking-off my part of the show,
that was soul singer Barbara Lewis
and "Puppy Love." Released in the
fall of 1963 around the time of the
JFK assassination, Barbara's record
was a crossover hit that made the
top 40 on both the pop and the
R&B chart in late winter, 1964.
Hello! I'm
Maggie Glenn,
 a single gal, career journalist
and the main character of
Good Boy...
a 2020 episode of the Hulu
horror anthology TV series
Into The Dark.

Here's my deal. After effectively placing a glass ceiling directly
over my head and noticing how much it pissed me off, my weasel
boss recommended that I get myself an emotional support dog.

I found an incredibly cute pup named Reuben...
 a cross-breed between a Dachshund and a Terrier.

At first, all was well, but ooops! - that doggie in the window...

the one with the waggly tail... turned out to be a killer canine!

That's right, friends and neighbors. You see, Reuben, or "Reubie," as I call him,
will attack and kill anyone who upsets me, stresses me out or tries to hurt me.

Reuben's got my back... and my misogynist boss's throat in his jowls.

Now that you've read my
Facebook profile, I want to
welcome you to the new
Shady's Place series
Scream
Queens

and my segment entitled

Wake Up Maggie...
Your New Dog's
a Killer K-9!

The songs I'm playing tell you about my mis-adventures in pet ownership.
Remember what they say: there are no bad dogs... just bad owners.

Excuse me a sec. Drop it, Reuben! I said drop it! Oops, too late. He just swallowed
my best friend's nose. Bad dog! Yep, you should see what happens when a date gets
too frisky with me. It's rowdy Reubie to the rescue! Watch out boy, he'll chew you up.
Here he comes. He's a "Maneater." More on the story from Daryl Hall & John Oates!

"Maneater" - Daryl Hall And John Oates (Dec. 1982/Jan. 1983,
highest chart pos. #1 Hot 100 & Cash Box)

You just saw Daryl Hall and
John Oates doing "Maneater,"
their early 80s chart-topping
hit, and my rowdy rover
Reubie's favorite song.

Well I'll be doggone, my part
of the show is over before I got
chance to tell you how Reubie
dealt with my money-grubbing
landlord. Maybe next time
when I return to sing the

To play me off, here's Rod Stewart to sing my theme song, "Maggie May,"
voted one of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. For now, this is
Maggie Glenn along with my killer K-9 Reuben, saying goodbye and take care!

"Maggie May" - Rod Stewart

Fangtastic job, Maggie.
I'd like to have you for
dinner sometime soon.
Until then, I'll try to
satisfy my craving
with Adam's apple...
but I'm afraid
your little
hellhound
might beat
me to it.

Hey, Drac --- BITE ME! On second thought... don't.

Count Dracula, you are so lame. You are nothing but a buzz kill,
a washed up has-been. I dated you in the 18th century. Even then,
you were nothing to write home about, and look at you now -
over the hill. You frighten no one... not even a child. Reuben
the dog is scarier than you. Casper the Friendly Ghost is scarier.
Macaulay Culkin is scarier. The Pillsbury Doughboy is scarier.
The Geico Gecko is scarier, you old puff of smoke...
you shriveled up caped cretin!

Part 2: Hello Dolly...
(Goodbye Blood)

Hello to one and all. I am Ghost Doll Nadja.

... the cute, cuddly, potty-mouth ghost/doppelganger mini-me doll
that belongs to the Romani vampire Nadja of Antipaxos on
What We Do In The Shadows, the FX mockumentary
comedy horror TV series set on Staten Island.
I will now turn this drab affair into an
out-and-out Balkan blowout as I
bring you my segment called
Party Doll Nadja.

As the Ghost of Nadja, I am more than 500 years old, but I don't look a day over 18.

That is because I have inhabited this cute little doll.

Yes, it is true. I have the ability to inhabit people, animals
and even inanimate objects like Shady Del Knight.

Inhabiting is what I do. Inhabiting is a hard habit to break.

I am already getting hundreds of song requests, but only have time
to play three. I am well versed in popular music. Since I have been
around for centuries, I was there at the very start of rock & roll
...the big bang we now refer to as "Milli Vanilli."

Back by popular demand,
here are the LA-based
Cristea siblings, the
rocking metal band
that adopted the
stage name Liliac,
the Romanian word
for "bat." You see...
their mother and
father come from
Nadja's neck of the
woods - Transylvania.
They "lived" within
spitting distance of
Castle Dracula.

    1. Hi, Kelly!

Thanks for riding a rocket sled to get here quick and claim yet another Early Bird title, dear friend!

Yessum, I enjoy just about everything Hall & Oates released, and I was especially pleased to find this 4K HD/HQ version of their "Maneater" official music video.

Be sure to show my buddy Pat this post. I know he'd be interested in meeting Reuben and maybe watching him in "Good Boy." It's a hoot.

Thanks again for being first to arrive, dear friend Kelly. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  2. Hi Shady! I'm #2 tonight but I try harder! I really didn't have to try too hard with this post because it was fun! I loved it! How could you not love that little pupper with his cute face and black eye! He was only trying to take care of his human! I enjoyed all the songs. I liked the cover by Liliacs. They did Joan proud. The lead singer did remind me of a young Cher. I still laugh when I think of poor Joan Jett appearing at our county fair years ago when her fame was tanking a bit. She wasn't too happy the farmers in the audience weren't thrilled with her rock and roll! I loved it though! You got the creepy vibe vote from me with the doll...oh how dolls creep me out! Spiders too but dolls even worse! Thanks for the pre Halloween fun this week. It's been a busy week already and it's only Tuesday! Annabelle is showing a little improvement and hopefully will be 100% soon. Have a good rest of this week as October slowly slips into a fond memory for this year. Take care Shady!

    1. Hi, Yaya!

Congratulations for finishing second in the race this week, dear friend, and thanks for joining the fun with Maggie, Reuben, Drac, Ghost Doll Nadja and vintage Scream Queen June Kenney!

Yessum, make sure your Annabelle watches "Good Boy" starring Reuben, a cute little pup who's breaking bad and killing people that upset, threaten or hurt his pet human Maggie. I was hoping you could report by now that my sweetie Annabelle is back to 100%. As long as she is trending in that direction, we have reason to be thankful.

Naturally I am very happy that you got into the Halloween spirit Shady style and enjoyed this post so much. "Good Boy" is a movie-length episode of the series called Into The Dark produced by Blumhouse studios. In recent years, the studio has been cranking out many fun to watch horror stories. "Good Boy" human star Judy Greer is an excellent comedic actress who has appeared in dozens of movies and TV series in the 21st century. "Good Boy" is more comedy than horror and most of the gore is left to the viewer's imagination. I highly recommend it.

I also highly recommend the mockumentary series What We Do In the Shadows about a family of vampires living in a creepy house on Staten Island. It's one of the best shows of any genre that I have ever watched. The ghost-possessed doll character is one of my favorites on the show.

Yessum, I remember you telling me how Joan Jett was booed by the rural audience in your region. I'm glad you enjoyed the Liliac cover and other music selections in the post that helped the Scream Queens introduce themselves and tell their stories.

I was very fond of vintage Scream Queen June Kenney, and felt she deserved to be my first featured Howl of Famer. In addition to Earth vs. The Spider, June starred in another 1958 creeper, Attack Of The Puppet People. As you might expect, I saw both of those movies as a boy. I am sad to report that June passed away last summer just shy of her 88th birthday.

Thank you again for your kind visit and comment, dear friend YaYa. I am keeping my fingers crossed that dear Annabelle bounces back to full health and vigor very soon. Please keep us posted. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  3. I tried to write here yesterday on my phone but it would not take. It’s every time I am the first one. When someone else has commented then it takes...weird. Maybe Bela has something to do with it. I love how you took some famous tunes and applied them to the series like I’m A Maneater. That dog needs Caesar Milan...hahahaa. I wish I could see What We Do In The Shadows with that creepy doll. Love the tune you chose there too...Elvis is inspiring. The music with the spider lady is fun and I wonder if that is the flick I saw with a young Clint Eastwood as a cop. Hoping you are having a great day. Harley is having, what we call, the zoomies! He is running around all happy.

    1. Hi, Birgit!

Welcome in, dear friend, as the Shady's Place 2022 Halloween Spooktacular continues with a limited engagement of "Guys and Dolls!"

It's crazy that my blog gremlins won't allow you to be the first to comment. If you ever have a problem like that, you can always email your comment to me. I will be happy to publish it for you. Other friends have done that in the past and I don't mind at all.

Bela Lugosi says "Boo!" FYI - Count Dracula's a little short on cash and might need to put the bite on you.

      (BA-DUM-BUMP)

Yessum, cute little Rueben, the killer K-9, might benefit from training by the famous Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan, but I'm afraid Rubie might go for his throat as he leans in. You might recognize the fine actress Judy Greer as the star of "Good Boy." Judy is one of the busiest actresses of the 21st century and I think she's tops. Don't miss Judy co-starring with Renée Zellweger in the true crime comedy-drama miniseries The Thing About Pam. It's must see!

Yessum, I hope you can find a way to watch What We Do In The Shadows. Along with the two "O" shows, Ozark and The Orville, the vampire mockumentary is the best TV series of the last 20 years or more, in my opinion. I urge you to watch all three of those great shows.

I'm glad you liked the songs that help tell the tales of these Scream Queens. How about that brilliantly restored clip of Elvis enchanting the young ladies (including Dolores Hart) in King Creole? Dolores, a Grace Kelly lookalike, turned age 84 a few days ago!

I'm glad you enjoyed the last feature of the post, the Scream Queens Howl of Fame, and my nod to the late June Kenney who starred in Earth vs. The Spider and Attack of the Puppet People. As for Clint Eastwood, you might be thinking about his uncredited role as a jet squadron leader in Tarantula (1955), or his role as "Jennings" in Revenge of the Creature (1955).

Thanks for letting me know that my buddy Harley is frisky and active. Please plunk him down in front of the boob tube and watch "Good Boy" with him. I know he'll want to see attack dog Reuben in action.

Thank you you very much for finding time to drop by, dear friend BB. Enjoy the rest of your week and I'll see you tamale at the BBC!

  4. Tom,

Gee, I would not suspect that doggie being such a hellhound. I think that pup is carrying his role as an emotional support animal a bit too far. I love all the tongue and cheek writing. The vintage film images add a a lot of extra fun to the content. I got especially tickled when I read how that cute devil sang to that spooky doll. :D I remember the band Lilac from previous posts and it was good to hear them again. Thanks for giving me the heads up to check out today's feature post. Have a wonderfully wild Wednesday, my friend!

    1. Hi, Cathy!

Thanks for coming right over, dear friend! Dracula welcomes you. Maggie welcomes you. Reuben welcomes you, Ghost Doll Nadja welcomes you and I welcome you to the Shady's Place off-off-off Broadway production of "Guys and Dolls."

Yessum, cute little Reubie looks gentle as a lamb, but don't make a threatening move around his owner, Maggie, or you'll pay dearly. By the way, you might recognize the name "Judy Greer" (star of Reubie's TV movie "Good Boy") as the actress who co-starred in The Thing About Pam. I'm pretty sure you mentioned having watched that miniseries. Judy played Leah Askey, the Lincoln County prosecutor who tried Russ Faria twice for his wife's murder.

Thank you for the compliment about the script writing. I appreciate that! Yessum, Elvis the Pelvis could croon a tune, and Doll Nadja was tickled pink that The King serenader her with "Lover Doll." I'm pleased that you remember Liliac and liked their Joan Jett cover.

Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend Cathy, and enjoy the rest of your week!

  5. I didn't recognize Puppy Love but with the dog pictures, it was very fitting.

We just got Hulu so I didn't know about Good Boy yet but I love the dog. Very cute. I mean an emotional support animal that gets rid of anyone who upsets his owner. lol Sounds good.

Hall & Oats was always good. Maneater is such a good song and fitting for this time of year.

Of course I know Rod Stewart. Love his songs.

I love Dracula. Those old Dracula movies are still so much fun to watch.

I didn't really care for the cover from Liliac or The Voodoo Child. The original versions are so much better. My mom was obsessed with Elvis but I didn't know that song.

It's almost Halloween so I hope you get some trick or treaters and save some candy for yourself.

    1. Hi, Mary!

My sincere apologies, dear friend! I was getting so used to your comments zipping right through that it never occurred to me to look in the spam folder. Yep - there was your comment. I don't know why this happens from time to time, but it sure is aggravating.

Thank you very much for making time in the middle of your week to join the fun as I present "Guys And Dolls" featuring an all-star cast that includes Count Dracula, Maggie Glenn, Reubie the killer K-9 and Ghost Doll Nadja, with a special salute to late 1950s/early 1960s Scream Queen June Kenney, one of my favorites from childhood.

Yessum, please let my buddy Falcor watch "Good Boy" with you. It's a hoot. Reuben is a lovable, cuddly little mutt who is gentle as a lamb around his owner Maggie, but he's territorial and mighty jealous of people who get too close to her. At the drop of a hat, Reubie will attack and kill anyone perceived as threat to Maggie's happiness or well being.

I'm glad you appreciated most of the song choices selected to fit with the story lines of these characters and their movie and TV series. I'm surprised you didn't like the rock covers by the two Romanian zingers, but thanks for auditioning them anyhow.

That Elvis song and movie clip is one that just recently showed up on YouTube just in time to fit into Ghost Nadja's segment.

Again I thank you for coming through as a friend at mid week. I will revert back to looking for your comments in the dreaded spam bin. Enjoy the rest of your week and please come back for my final Halloween post of the season which starts dark and early tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, I will also see you tomorrow over at Dark Thoughts. Take care, Mary!

  6. Hello my friend. I love the Hall and Oates song "Maneater." That little dog looks like our Benny except ours has brown markings not black. The pictures of Reuben all bloody were kind of discomforting because of that. I actually had a dream while we were in Oregon about wolves attacking and Benny was bloody in that dream too. My hubby had to wake me up because I was moaning loudly in my sleep!

Maggie May is another one of my faves as well. I'd like to see old Rod in concert again. Liliac did a good job on the Joan Jett cover as well.

Thanks again, dear Shady, for checking up on me after our little earthquake. I guess we each have our own territorial issues but I think I'd rather have an earthquake than a hurricane. I may be posting an update on my blog this week too. I am not quite as organized with my posts as you are! Have a great rest of your week.

    1. Hi, Janet!

I'm delighted that you could make it over, dear friend! In addition, I am relieved that you are referring to the earthquake that shook your region as "little," which to me indicates that you sustained minimal damage from it. I'm so thankful!

I'm glad you enjoyed the musical selections picked by the Scream Queens themselves to give you the gist of the horror shows in which they appear. I was going to urge you to watch "Good Boy" with my buddy Benny, but now I realize that wouldn't be a good idea for the reason you mentioned. I'm sorry you had a nightmare about Benny being attacked by wolves. I'll bet you were glad your hubby shook you awake.

It's interesting that you would prefer to endure an earthquake rather than ride out a hurricane. I'd have to agree with you on that score

Thank you again for your kind visit and great comment, dear friend Janet. I'm so glad you, Bill and my buddy Benny are all AOK. I hope that goes for your kids as well. Enjoy the rest of your week. If you post an update on your site, I'll be over the read it. Take care, Janet!

    2. Hi, Janet!

I'm so sorry I neglected to reply to this comment of yours, dear friend. I could have sworn I already published a reply, but it is obviously not here. Anyhow, I just now noticed that your kind comment lacks a reply, and so I will compose another one.

Yessum, based on what I have learned about your taste in music, I suspected you might be a fan of Hall & Oates. Glad you enjoyed this pristine video of the duo performing "Maneater." Yessum, "Good Boy" Reubie does look like your Benny. I'm sorry you found his bloody coat disturbing. It's not Reubie's blood. It's his victims, most of them males who have somehow threatened or upset his pet human Maggie. That's an awful dream you had about wolves attacking Benny! I hope it never happens again. Mrs. Shady often moans or even screams in her sleep, then can't remember what her nightmare was about.

I also figured The Rodster is an artist you like and have seen in concert. I'm glad you enjoyed his original recording of the Good Boy theme song "Maggie May." I am also very pleased that you appreciated the Joan Jett cover by the batty brother-sister act Liliac.

Yessum, here we go again. Another hurricane is heading our way, with the path expected to cut right across the county where we live. It's like our house is a magnet for hurricanes, or maybe they are equipped with a GPS set for our street address! If you happen to comment on my new post or publish a post of your own and I don't respond, please remember it is because we lost power in this latest storm which is supposed to be in our vicinity tomorrow (Thursday) morning.

Thank you again for your visit and excellent comment, dear friend Janet. Please hug Benny for me and enjoy the rest of your week!

  7. Hi Shady, I really enjoyed this post. I remember watching Bela Legosi playing Dracula on TV when I was a child. Very scary. My sister, brother and I would watch every scary movie that we could. I actually bought the old book by Bram Stoker, but couldn't finish it. Lol.

It was fun to hear "Puppy Love" again. Such a fun song. I loved learning all about the killer dog, Reuben. He's so cute, but ferocious I guess. It would be handy having a dog like that.

Maneater and Maggie May were great and I was surprised I liked, "I Hate Myself for Loving You." I always like hearing Elvis. I was alarmed by the clip of his nefarious doings! I remember Deloris Hart, I think she was in other Elvis movies. The only song that was too hard rock for me was, "Rock and Roll." My granddaughter, Cherish, probably likes it because when she was a young teen she discovered Led Zepplin and bought T-Shirts with their name on it. My two other granddaughters are going to a Halloween Party, one dressed as Cher and the other dressed as some kind of girl amime superheroess. Have a happy Halloween!

    1. Hi, Belle!

Thanks so much for coming down, dear friend!

I'm delighted to find another scary movie fan among my friends. I should qualify that by reminding myself that you do not like to see excessive blood and gore on the screen. Seems like we can therefore add to your like list the Universal Classic Monsters, the pop culture icons introduced in the 1930s, 40s and 50s by Universal Pictures. These include Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, the Mummy and Creature From the Black Lagoon. Compared to most modern horror movies that show in graphic detail monsters beheading and mutilating their victims, those Universal monsters gave you a good scare without having to do much actual on screen killing, and there were very few if any gory scenes. Let me know if I am correct about this, that we can include the Universal Classic Monsters on your like list. I am also wondering if you watched and enjoyed movies like Earth vs. The Spider, the monster film referenced at the end of the post in my Scream Queens Howl of Fame tribute to the late actress June Kenney. As you recall, dozens of notable sci-fi horror movies were released in the mid and late 1950s featuring bugs, animals and even people who grew to enormous size after being exposed to radiation. The movie Them! had ants the size of Buicks, The Deadly Mantis had a 50-foot long Praying Mantis. Tarantula had another giant spider, etc. I am wondering if that type of film was too intense for you then and now. I ask because you didn't seem afraid of a 50-foot tall Shady Del Knight and his hugging and smooching rampage. :)

I'm happy that you liked "Puppy Love" and most of the other songs presented by Maggie and Ghost Nadja. I was thrilled to find prestine videos of Hall & Oates and young Rod Stewart to help these newly inducted Scream Queens introduce themselves and tell their stories. "Good Boy" is a charming comedy horror story starring one of the busiest and best actresses of the 21st century, Judy Greer. I highly recommend this movie-length episode of the 2018-2021 Blumhouse TV series Into The Dark now streaming on Hulu.

I also highly recommend What We Do In The Shadows, a modern version of The Munsters and The Addams Family, a quirky family of vampires trying to adapt to "life" on Staten Island, NY. It's a hoot. I would rank Shadows up there with The Orville and Ozark as one of the
top 3 TV series of the 21st century.

Yessum, while pretty boy Elvis was crooning his tune and creating a distraction, that five-and-dime was being robbed by the gang he was forced to join, but savvy sales clerk Dolores Hart saw through the scam right away. Yessum, in addition to King Creole, Dolores also appeared in the 1957 Elvis film Loving You, and is famous for being one of the spring breaker girls in the Connie Francis movie Where The Boys Are (1960). Dolores Hart is/was a delightful actress, looked so much like Grace Kelly, and is still with us at the age of 84, having lived many decades longer than Elvis.

I am also very happy that you gave the Cristea siblings aka Liliac, a chance and liked their Joan Jett cover. I'm sorry you didn't like the Led Zep cover by Rockmina and Voodoo Child. It's one of the best Zeppelin covers I've ever heard and one of the most exciting live performances I've every witnessed. They nailed it.

Thank you again for your kind visit and excellent comments, dear friend Belle. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week!

    2. Hi there, I do remember one horror film where Vincent Price turned into a spider. His little head was on the body of a spider! I remember feeling sick because I hated spiders! So no, I never saw any of the ones featuring bugs or spiders. I did love, King Kong and Mighty Joe Young. I saw Godzilla, which didn't make much of an impression. I remember, The Blob and some werewolf movies with Lon Chaney. Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde horrified me. That was Spencer Tracey, I think. Frankenstein was a favorite. I read that Mary Shelley said the most letters she received from fans were children. She said they identified with the monster. I think that's quite sad. Perhaps they felt misunderstood. I read the book after that and it is quite different than the old movie. I saw the newer one starring Kenneth Branagh and it was very sad. I guess the most frightening movie I've ever seen was, Psycho, by Alfred Hitchcock. I was 13 and saw it at a theater. That might be when I stopped watching horror movies. Lol.

    3. Hi, Belle!

Thanks for returning to answer my questions! Yessum, I went to see Vincent Price starring in The Fly at an old theater in the mountains of northern PA one of the years my family vacationed in that region. The theatre was built on the side of a mountain. From the street entrance and snack bar, you needed to walk down three long flights of stairs just to get to the balcony! :) King Kong and Mighty Joe Young are great choices. I watched the latter several times starting when I was a young boy. I have seen the original and various sequels to the King Kong saga, including the one starring Naomi Watts. Speaking of Naomi, be sure to catch her if you can in the new Netflix thriller miniseries The Watcher which is based on actual events. It's tense, suspenseful and very exciting! Steve McQueen starred in The Blob which I naturally saw when it first came to theaters. You are correct. Lon Chaney Jr. was the Wolfman and Spencer Tracy starred in Jeckyl & Hyde. Boris Karloff was Frankenstein's monster. I think anyone who is misunderstood, hated and feared can identify with the monster. I also saw Psycho when it was released to theaters, and it only whet my appetite for even greater thrills and mayhem on the screen.

Thanks again for coming back over to chat, dear friend Belle. Have a lovely Thursday. I hope to connect with you again soon!

    1. Hi, Deniz!

      Welcome to Shady's Place!

Thank you for dropping by and taking a peek at my latest post, the first official volume of Scream Queens, a series that pays tribute to some of my favorite actresses of the horror genre, past and present.

Yessum, cute little fur ball Reuben's bite is worse than his bark! :) He'll attack and rip to shreds anyone who intimidates his pet human Maggie, played so well by the fabulous actress Judy Greer.

I hope you will watch the late 50s horror feature Earth vs. The Spider starring the beautiful June Kenney. You can watch the frightful flick on YouTube:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q04kQo2bSe4

That same year, 1958, June also starred in Attack Of The Puppet People, which is also available free on YouTube:

Thanks again for joining the fun at Shady's Place, Deniz. I hope you will choose to follow and comment regularly. You are always welcome.

Have a Thankful Thursday and I hope to see you again soon!

  9. I take note of several people jockeying to be the first to comment. Well, I'll have none of that as I can safely say I hold the world record for being the LAST to comment. Let's see someone beat that!

Nice to hear "Maneater" again. I'm reminded of 1943's Cat People and its 1982 sequel about a young woman who seemingly turns into a black panther.

"Maggie May". Just one of the greatest songs ever written or performed, though lo these many years later I wonder what the sun reveals when it shines in the 77-year-old Rod Stewart's face. Time catches up with everyone, even rock stars.

When I saw that you had a cover of "I Hate Myself for Loving You," and that it was sung by a female, I assumed she would try her damnedest to sound like Joan Jett. Instead she tried her damnedest to sound like Ozzy Osbourne! But it's cool. Also cool is the "Rock and Roll" cover. Whereas Robert Plant sings it with it with a kind of falsetto, the young woman growls the song. As you know, or as you should know if you've read my comments carefully, I'm not a fan of slavish remakes, so these songs are OK by me.

    That's all, folks.

    1. Hi, Kirk!

I'm pleased that you were able to catch a showing of my off-off-off Broadway production of "Guys And Dolls" before it closes. "What are the critics saying?," you ask. i can tell you that words like "boffo," "primo," "sterling" and "fantabulous" are being tossed around. Count Dracula was triumphant in the lead role of Sky Masterson. Maggie Glenn garnered rave reviews for her portrayal of Sister Sarah Brown. Reuben the Ripper is unforgettable as Harry the Horse, and Ghost Doll Nadja breathed new life into Miss Adelaide, a role originally intended for Tallulah Bankhead.

Yes, good buddy, I realize you are one of the last to comment, but I think that only happens when I have a post that starts early in the week on a Monday or Tuesday. I get a sense that you are super busy during the week and need to stay up very late, primarily on weekends, to visit and comment. Your time is valuable, and I am therefore grateful for your visits and comments.

I'm pleased that you enjoyed watching and listening to that remastered video of Hall & Oates doing one of their many memorable, toe-tapping hit songs "Maneater." FYI, the musical style and production of Nelly Furtado's 2006 hit "Maneater" were inspired by the Hall & Oates song and other hits of the 1980s. Thanks for reminding me of Cat People. I first saw that film on TV when I was a young boy and it made an impression. Leading players Simone Simon and Kent Smith returned in the 1944 sequel The Curse of the Cat People which I also watched on TV during boyhood.

I'm delighted that you are so fond of Rod Stewart's early solo career hit "Maggie May." I was lucky to find that remarkably restored vid. Yes, I prefer to remember the Rod Stewart of the 1970s and 80s, and YouTube performance video restorations like this one help me pretend that 40 or 50 years haven't elapsed since he was one of the "Young Turks."

I am also very pleased that you like the refreshing Joan Jett and Zeppelin covers by Liliac and Voodoo Child feat. Rockmina. Liliac family band frontwoman Melody Cristea's voice has often been compared to that of the late, great Ronnie James Dio.

Thanks again for making time for a visit and for your super comment, good buddy Kirk. I've got my final Halloween-related post of 2022 starting dark and early tomorrow morning for a 5-day run. "Great Balls Of Fire" - it's a doozy. I hope you enjoy it. Have a nice weekend!

  10. Hi Shady!

Sorry I wasn't here sooner. I got my second COVID booster last Tuesday and I was out of commission for a few days. Feeling better, but tired from all the Halloween festivities this weekend.

I loved these Scream Queens and I'm familiar with all of these songs. "I Hate Myself For Loving You", "Rock and Roll" and "Maneater" are some of my favourites. Voodoo Child does a wonderful job, as always.

I'll check your newer post out a little later. Have a great Mischief Night, dear friend.

    1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

Long time no see, dear friend! Thanks for coming by and checking out my previous post featuring two more new members of my Shady's Place - SLASH - SPMM - SLASH - Scream Queens deejay team.

Gosh, I'm sorry you had an adverse reaction to your latest COVID booster. Mrs. Shady and I got our shots a month ago. She had a sore shoulder for a while, but my injection site didn't bother me much and I didn't run a fever or anything of that nature. I hope you will bounce back soon.

I'm pleased that you appreciate Andrei Cerbu's Romanian band Voodoo Child and their featured lead zinger Romina Apostol aka "Rockmina." On this Lep Zep cover, Rockmina lives up to her stage name, delivering an incendiary performance. I am also pleased that you liked the Transylvanian Cristea sibs aka Liliac and their cover of the Joan Jett biggie. Can't go wrong with Daryl & John either, and I was elated to find this brilliantly remastered music video clip of "Maneater."

Yessum, Halloween's busting out all over Shady's Place, and there's more scary goodness in store in my current post which runs four more days. I hope you can take a look and a listen.

Happy Halloween to you, your kitty, your folks and everyone you care about. Thanks again for dropping in, dear friend JM!
