That there was Paul Revere and his band of Raiders featuring
Mark Lindsay on lead vocal, kicking off our midnight ride with
"Just Like Me," a single that brushed the top 10 in the
early weeks of 1966 and began a string of classic
garage rock hits by the group.

Hi there! I'm your host, Toto Moto,
Shady's dog, the Shady's Place
blog mascot, Chief Petting Officer
and Shady Bunch deejay. They call
me the All Night Satellite, the Hound
of Sound and the Hi-Fi Fido. Shucks,
I don't care what they call me as long
as they don't call me late for chow.

I know I'm a corn dog, but it's alright, and that just happens to be the
title of my next song. In 1966 this one reached the top 30 on the pop
chart and the top 5 R&B. J.J. Jackson zings-- "But It's Alright!"

"But It's Alright" - J.J. Jackson
(Oct./Nov. 1966, highest chart pos.

You done me wrong, girl... left me
all alone with my achy breaky heart,
"But It's Alright," sings Brooklyn soul
man J.J. Jackson, a record that was
hot on the charts in the fall of 1966.

This is everybody's favorite mutt, your rover
of the radio - Toto Moto - and I want you to
lend me your ears. Lend me your eyes, too,
because my show is simulcast on YouTube.
We're traveling thru my Top Tunes Time

From 60s R&B soul we switch to country pop and the smooth
sound of Billy Joe Royal's sig song "Down In The Boondocks."

Dancers on Hollywood A Go-Go!

"Down In The Boondocks" - Billy Joe Royal
(July/Aug. 1965, highest chart pos. #6 Cash Box/#9 Hot 100)

From the archives of Hollywood A Go-Go, that was Billy Joe Royal
doing his biggest hit, "Down In The Boondocks," a top 10 record
in the summer of 1965. "Boonies" was written by Joe South and
samples the Gene Pitney hit "Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa."

If you're just tuning in, I'm Toto Moto,
your Rocker Spaniel, keeping you
company on the radio all night
long here on the greatest little
station in the nation, S-P-M-M.

Folks, this next one has me scratching
my head (and other body parts). Dionne
Warwick emerged as one of the biggest
stars of the 60s waxing the songs of
Burt Bacharach and Hal David. You
are about to hear one of their greatest.
It's among Dionne's best known hits,
ranked #70 on Rolling Stone's list of
The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time,
yet, at the time of its release, the
single failed to reach the top 5
on the pop and R&B charts.

Now let's hear the West Coast folk-rock
sound of The Byrds with a Bob Dylan
song that ignited the mid 60s folk-rock
boom. Spinning on my turntable even
as I bark is the band's first single,
number one in the summer of
'65-- "Mr. Tambourine Man."

From Oklahoma they came - Five Americans,
count 'em - one, two, three, four five. In 1967
the band released their biggest hit. Inspiration
for the ditty came when the lead guitarist was
goofing around and produced a unique sound
that reminded the other guys of a telegraph key.

The Dirty Dozen Meets the Shady Bunch Half Dozen!

I'm Maj. John Reisman,

leader of a ragtag band of misfits I call
The Dirty Dozen - the most twisted,
anti-social bunch of psychopathic
deformities you'll ever run into!
I've got one religious maniac,
one malignant dwarf, two
near-idiots... and the rest
I don't even wanna think
about! That being said,
I can't think of a better
way to fight a war.
I'm here to tell you
about a different dozen.

Today Shady Del Knight is celebrating
a "dirty dozen" years of blogging.

For the first 10 years Shady was host
of Shady Dell Music & Memories.

Believe it or not, his "new" blog, Shady’s Place,
is now two years old...and crying for its binky.

To mark this special occasion, I decided to treat my men to a
little party, and I invited a few members of The Shady Bunch
deejay battalion over to play some tunes. Just a minute.

Got something to say, Franko?
Speak up so the whole class can hear what's on your mind.

I said I don't have to dance.

I know the rules.
Condemned men
don't have to dance.

And there's nothing you can do about it, mister.

Easy, Franko, don't get your knickers in a
twist, and don't jump the gun. This isn't
a done deal. First we need to make sure
these Shady Bunch deejays are willing
to re-up for another stint here on SPMM.
If they agree to come back for another
year, they'll be worked to death, and
there's not a beating they won't take.
I see they've all raised their hands.
In that case, Sgt. Bowren, will you
do the honors and proceed with
the roll call and sentencing?

THE FOLLOWING SENTENCES
WILL BE
CARRIED OUT
FORTHWITH!

BLUE, SHADY:
30 YEARS HARD LABOR

(as SPMM radio DJ)

30 years? I can do that time in my sleep! Hello everyone!
I’m happy to be returning for another year behind the microphone
hosting my S-P-M-M radio show Stuck Like Glue on Shady Blue.
As I have been doing since the summer of 2018, I'll be playing
great sounds of the pre-Beatles years, the 50s and early 60s,
and paying tribute to my favorite artist Elvis Presley.

BLACK, HEPCAT:
30 YEARS HARD LABOR

(as SPMM radio DJ)

Hi, ya'll! I’m Hepcat Black, a cool cool kitty who’s definitely
not from New York City. I’m glad to be back and that's a fact, Jack.
I just pulled up in my Pink Cadillac to spin a cool tune for ya.

The singing sweethearts I'm about to introduce are the cat's meow.
They look like the Butcher Babies and sound like Nancy Sinatra.
They're The Devil's Daughters, an Americana Rockabilly band

Take a goosey gander at the gals and I think you'll agree they look more like

Here's an original song they wrote with their producer, veteran guitarist
Danny B. Harvey, the barn burner "Pass That Bottle." In the video the
Double Ds are backed by "three badass boys of Rockabilly" - Leeroy
Nelson, Shorty Kruetz and Tommy Collins. Swinging to the beat

Thanks a bunch for signing me up for a 30 year DJ gig, sarge.
Beats pumpin' gas at the Esso station or baggin' groceries

and Andrei Cerbu. They're gonna-- "Rock This Town!"

GREEN, SHADY:
30 YEARS HARD LABOR

(as SPMM radio DJ)

Hi, gang! It's your pal on the radio Shady Green, The Dean of Keen.

great songs of the past
and bring 'em back alive!

GRIFFIN, BRIAN:
30 YEARS HARD LABOR

(as SPMM radio DJ)

Hello, folks! Some people call me a "dawg" because I like all kinds
of women... Lois, in particular... but I also love all kinds of music.
That's why I am pleased as punch to return for another year
(or even 30) as host of Eclectic Avenue, the show that's like

DELLETTE, DEBBIE:
30 YEARS HARD LABOR

(as The Hostess with the Mostest

Hi, guys! Who would have thought that a frat rock
and Beach Music group from South Carolina would
be hot at the Shady Dell in soul mecca York, PA?
It happened, not once, but twice, in 1966 when
The Swingin' Medallions gained Dell immortality
first with "Double Shot (Of My Baby's Love)"
and then with the follow-up single I'm about to
play entitled "She Drives Me Out Of My Mind."
Both Medallions hits were released on the sound-
track of Mondo Daytona, a 1968 psychotronic
music documentary film shot on Daytona Beach
and first released in Bradenton, Florida. Singer
Billy Joe Royal narrated the film and music acts

Natalie Teeger's Gotcha Covered with Leonid & Friends!

Hi there, I'm
Natalie Teeger!
As you know, I'm
Adrian Monk's
personal assistant
on the hit TV series
My Mother the Car
Monk.

You might recall my appearance a few years ago on Shady Del Knight's
old blog Shady Dell Music & Memories.  Shady was nice enough
to invite me back as a guest host here at Shady's Place.

I needed to beg, coax and twist Mr. Monk's arm, but he finally agreed
to give me some time off so that I could introduce you to what
just might be the greatest cover band in the world! They're
Leonid & Friends, a Russian tribute band that specializes in
covering the songs of the American supergroup Chicago.

Leonid & Friends have never seen Chicago in person. They learned Chicago's songs
by listening to recordings and watching videos. The Moscow based jazz-rock band
has the uncanny ability to replicate Chicago's complex arrangements note for note.
Listen as they perform "Beginnings," a top 10 hit for Chicago in 1971.

summer of '73, Chicago scored another
top 10 hit with the song you're hearing
now, "Feelin' Stronger Every Day."
