I'm Ronald Pergman, a psycho
long-haul trucker involved in
several unsolved kidnappings
on the ABC-TV crime drama
thriller series Big Sky. Hey,
look... I'm actually a heck
of a nice guy. Just don't
piss me off.
I know that kidnapping is wrong, but I have an excuse...
...a note from my mommy. Yep, I still live at home. Mama rides me pretty hard.
She says I'm a failure... just like papa was. (He was also a rolling stone.)
Mama calls me a pervert and a born loser... a man that no woman on earth
would want and no woman will ever love. Gee... thanks for the pep talk, mom.
(I smell a Norman Bates scenario brewing.)
My new S-P-M-M radio show, Sky King & His Songbirds, is named after,
but bears little or no resemblance to the 1950s Western-themed TV series,
the adventures of Schuyler "Sky" King, an Arizona rancher and aircraft
pilot who captures criminals and spies and finds lost hikers with the
help of his niece Penny, his nephew Clipper and his twin-engine
Cessna airplane that he named The Songbird.
Joining me on my S-P-M-M show will be three other characters
from Big Sky. Together, we'll bring you a truckload of music and
memories - the best sounds of the 20th and 21st centuries.
As a trucker with no wife, no girlfriend and no prospects,
I'm lookin' for love in all the wrong places... like truck stops.
I'm not proud of the things that go on inside my big rig...
...but I always take responsibility for my actions, hence my motto:
"The truck stops here." (BA-DUM-BUMP)
When I'm on the road again, there's nothing I like more than turning on
the radio and hearing my favorite crooner Roy Orbison, the rock & roll
troubadour whose songs speak to lonely guys like me who are unlucky
in love (but lucky in kidnapping). The next best thing to Roy is a lady
who covers his songs and does it well. I'm talking about Arkansas
songbird Arlene Harden, a member of the country music group
The Harden Trio and a successful solo artist who made the
country chart 15 times from the late 60s thru early 70s.

Hi, I'm Scarlett Winslow...
I'm just an innocent looking girl (well, maybe not) who moves into the infamous
Murder House on the FX/Hulu anthology horror series American Horror Stories.
Long story short: I fooled around
and fell in love with a living dead
girl named Ruby who ghosted me
in a very special way. Yessum, by
now you can tell that I'm just an
ordinary, average teenager
who likes to experiment.
In addition to taking bubble baths with Ruby, my hobbies
include donning a weird Rubber Man suit I found...

Who truly is innocent? That girl in the black outfit needs therapy or to be gotten rid of. Let's hope she doesn't meet up with the trucker. I will look forward to what they choose. I'm not one for the 1st song but I always like the Supremes. Diana Ross knew how to sleep to the top too. Is it just me or does she have no neck. Anyhoo, that girl did well with the Orbison song even though I will always choose Roy. I hope you are doing well and that the clean up around your area is going well too. Take care and Harley says Woof.
ReplyDeleteHi, Birgit!
DeleteBy golly, you went and did it, dear friend. You raced over here to claim the Early Bird title and win the 50-foot tall Shady De-Light Bobblehead!
Yessum, I'd love to see king of the road Ronald Pergman pitted against tiny teen Scarlett Winslow from the AHS Murder House. If I were a betting man, I'd plunk my $$$ down on Scarlett, because she transforms into a fierce warrior princess whenever she slips into that rubber suit.
I'm glad you enjoyed that extended length, custom sync-edit video of The Supremes singing one of their many hits at two or three different venues. I think some of that footage was taken from the famous T.A.M.I. Show, and some from one of their Ed Sullivan appearances. I'm also pleased that you think country-pop singer Arlene Harden recorded a capable cover of that Roy Orbison classic.
Yessum, we are doing AOK. I'm still picking up fallen tree branches around our property and just discovered that one of our beautiful shrubs was completely uprooted by the storm. It's lying on its side and we are hoping to get it righted and replanted in the days ahead. The flood waters are receding nicely.
Thanks again for your prompt visit and fun comment, dear friend BB. Please smooch my buddy Harley on his stinky snout and enjoy the rest of your day. I'll be over to see you again tamale!
The funny thing this week is that I recognized all of the songs but the only show I recognize and have watched is American Horror Story. I don't have cable or over the air TV just Netflix so I don't watch many of those shows. I don't even know if they're on Netflix besides American Horror Story. I hope you are drying out from the storm, that your power is on and stays on and you don't have too many puddles in your yard. Falcor says hi and sends a big woof to you.
ReplyDeleteHi, Mary!
DeleteThanks for coming early to the party, dear friend! It's nice to receive a big woof from my buddy Falcor. Thanks for letting me know he's thinking about me. If I were there in Lost Wages I'd pet and scratch that rascal for hours at a time!
WOW, Mary - you get a perfect score doing "Name That Tune," and I figured you have watched Scarlett's shenanigans as she runs around the AHS Murder House in her Rubberman suit slashing, stabbing and impaling people. Gotta love her!
I watch the Shonda Rhimes series Scandal and the David E. Kelley series Big Sky on Hulu. The Queen's Gambit is a great mini series and a breakthrough starring role for actress Anya Taylor-Joy . Mrs. Shady and I watched it on Netflix a couple of years ago. I just checked, and it is still available is you are a Netflix subscriber. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the groovy 1960s pop rock soundtrack. Unfortunately, Prime Suspect, the Helen Mirren series we watched a couple of years ago, is no longer available unless you purchase it on Amazon. However, the prequel, Prime Suspect: Tennison (1973) is currently running on Brit Box if you have that service. We watched it and highly recommend it.
Yessum, "the juice is on the loose" (our power has been restored) and we are drying out from the ferocious hurricane Ian and hoping that the tropics behave themselves for the duration of the long hurricane season. I've had all the stress I can handle for a while.
Thanks for the well wishes and for your great comment, dear friend Mary. Take care and I'll be over to see you again this weekend!
I laughed real loud at the "Ronald Pergman" bit :D
ReplyDeleteHi, Damyanti!
DeleteWelcome to SPMM (Shady's Place Music & Memories) and thank you for coming by! I see that you are a writer and live in Bombay, or at least write stories that are set there. I don't consider myself much of a writer, but I have several writer friends and would be pleased to count you among them. I'm glad you got a giggle out of my introductory Ronald Pergman sketch. Ronald's dysfunctional relationship with his ultra-critical smother mother is a hoot. If you choose to follow me, I can promise lots more fun and good music as the weeks roll by.
Thanks again for dropping in, Damyanti. I hope to see you again soon!
I recognized the Orbison song, but not the performer. You know... I have to be honest and say that I never cared for Britney Spears or that song. However, I did feel for her and was glad when she won the lawsuit against her father. She might have made a lot of poor decisions, but she was still an adult at the time. Hope things are going okay for you and your family following the hurricane.
ReplyDeleteDang it. I know I filled out my info before submitting that last comment!
DeleteHi, Kelly & Pat!
DeleteYou finished 4th this time, dear friend, and there's no shame in that. Besides, placing 4th qualifies you for my raffle. Your name will be thrown into a drum and, if drawn at random by blog mascot Toto Moto, you will win an all expense paid trip around the world with Shady Del Knight!... (as long as you're the one paying all the expenses, plus covering my gambling debts and $$$ I owe to a loan shark).
Anyway, I'm pleased to see you here on day one to meet six more celebrities auditioning to become members of The Shady Bunch DJ squad. I'm pleased that you liked the Roy Orbison cover. Truth be told, Britney Spears isn't my favorite artist either, but I found this nicely restored upload of the official music video for "Oops!" and thought it would go nicely as both a showender and as a song to help Scarlett Winslow tell her twisted tale. Coincidentally, I picked a horror movie to watch as I ate lunch today, and there she was - short red hair and all - actress Sierra McCormick featured in the scary flick! She truly is a scream queen!
Thank you very much for following-up in the wake of hurricane Ian. We had that 15 hour power outage followed by a 60 hour cable and internet outage! I am so over hurricane season, but meteorologists are telling us we need to keep a watchful eye on the tropics because two new systems are starting to develop.
Oh.... I see that you left a second comment. In that case, I will need to open a second comment form. :)
Yessum, I knew it was you all along, but thanks. Thank you very much for your visit and comment, dear friend Kelly, and enjoy the rest of your week!
DeleteWelcome back, dear friend! I am glad you and Mrs. Shady are safe.
ReplyDeleteI love Ava Max, as well as the Supremes. That's my favourite Roy Orbison song. You just made me flash back to 4th grade and listening to Britney Spears every dang day. I had "Oops, I Did It Again" on CD and it was a favourite on my walkman back then. Ah, a walk down memory lane.
I look forward to these new series!
Hi, Jessica Marie!
DeleteThanks for joining the fun, dear friend! I'm pleased to know that you give thumbs up to act #1 - Ava Max - and to Motown's top girl group The Supremes. I'm glad Ronald Pergman's Pick to Click is also your favorite Roy Orbison song, and the video starring Britney flashed you back to 4th grade when you bought her "Oops!" song on CD.
Seems like you found lots to like in this sneak preview of new SPMM shows. Thanks again for coming over and enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend JM!
Hey Shady,
DeleteYeah, Ava Max is fun. I like her spirit too. Since Halloween is coming up, give "Sweet, but Psycho" a listen. That is the song that first introduced me to Ava Max.
Britney Spears was fun until 2000. I think after "Oops, I Did It Again," she started going downhill. Either that or I was becoming a teenager, getting more into punk, metal, and rap, that I just didn't care for her music after. Ah, the early 2000s!
I've never heard of Groundbreaker before and had to give them a listen. I dig them. I will definitely check out more.
Have a great evening, dear friend.
Hi, Jessica Marie!
DeleteThanks for coming back over to follow-up, dear friend!
Yessum, I watched the Ava Max "Sweet But Psycho" video a couple of years ago when I first discovered the artist. I have it saved in a draft folder to be used in a volume of my Scream Queens series.
Yessum, knowing you like I do, I think your taste evolved beyond Britney's style of electro-pop and into harder, heavier, more extreme genres. My taste evolved in similar fashion starting in the late 90s when I immersed myself in Rob Zombie, the horror rock of Murderdolls, Cradle of Filth, I.T.M., M.I.W., hardcore rap, the Chicago-based stoner-doom band Black Road, and so on.
Glad you like Groundbreaker and want to find more of their material.
Thanks again for dropping in and enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend JM!
Hi, Shady,
DeleteWhat can I say? We're both music fans and we are curious enough to expand our tastes. I think it's cool that a lot of metal and black metal artists are also trained in classical music. If you listen to bands like Cradle of Filth and even Dark Throne, you can hear their classical training closely. I guess that's why I also love classical music! It's neat how music just comes together.
Happy Thankful Thursday, dear friend.
Hi, Jessica Marie!
DeleteI agree that much of the metal that lots of people recoil from in disgust is only a hop, skip and a jump from classical. You just need to be willing to listen with open ears and an open mind.
Stick around for my next post coming Sunday when a new member of The Shady Bunch I-Team introduces the greatest family singing group you've probably never even heard of.
Enjoy the rest of your week and weekend, dear friend JM!
Hey friend Shady, so nice to see you here. Hopefully that means you and the Mrs. escaped the brunt of Ian.
ReplyDeleteThe cover of the Roy Orbison song was very good. I recognized the Ron Pergman character but not from Big Sky. He is on the show Chicago PD and Chicago Fire and that's where I've seen him.
I don't recognize Overland but their sound reminds me of bands like Toto. I like it.
As for Ms. Brittany, you can tell this was from early in her career because she still has most of her clothes on. - LOL.
I'm still regrouping after my busy September but I hope to get a post up on my spot sometime this week. Stay safe buddy!
Hi, Janet & Benny!
DeleteHow are things out on the left coast, dear friend? Thanks for being here and taking a sneak peek at new shows coming soon to Shady's Place!
Yessum, whenever a hurricane passes to our south and east, as did Ian, we are spared the worst of its winds. In 2004, hurricane Charlie took a similar track, but was a little stronger and a little closer to us, resulting in a tree falling down on our roof and another crushing a neighbor's fence. A few miles can make a big difference.
I'm delighted that you and others like Arlene Harden's cover of the Roy Orbison song. Roy Orbison is psycho trucker Ronald Pergman's favorite singer, so stay tuned for more Roy songs coming up on Ronald's radio show Sky King & His Songbirds. Good eye, Janet! Actor Brian Geraghty (Ronald Pergman) was indeed in the cast of Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, and is a veteran of several other TV series and miniseries including The Fugitive, Briarpatch, The Alienist, Ray Donovan and Boardwalk Empire, and Mrs. Shady and I saw him in the movie The Hurt Locker. I appreciate his subtle acting style on Big Sky, so much so that I decided to make Ronald P a Shady's Place presenter and award him his own radio show along with other characters from the hit ABC series from executive producer David E. Kelley.
I'm thrilled that you like Brit rocker Steve Overland and his band Groundbreaker. To me, they sound like Journey, Dokken and other classic rock bands of the 80s, the kind you often go to see at The Winery. Maybe Groundbreaker will appear there someday!
Yessum, I was thinking as I watched Britney's vid that it looks like she's wearing a colorful variation of Scarlett's Rubberman suit. :)
I know you've had a busy September, especially with all those trips out of town to help your mother-in-law. Thank you again for checking for new posts at Shady's Place and joining the fun. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Janet!
Big Sky sounds downright disturbing. Like to know what his excuse was for kidnapping.
ReplyDeleteHi, Alex!
DeleteThanks for taking a peek at the post, good buddy!
Big Sky was created by the brilliantly quirky David E. Kelley who gave us Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal and other fun TV series. You can see and hear Kelley's touches throughout each episode of Big Sky. I don't want to be a spoiler, so you'll need to watch the show to understand Ronald Pergman's motivation. His overbearing mother is a hoot. Helen Pergmen is played by Valerie Mahaffey who, as you might recall, was a scream in the role of "psycho Sandy," the former high school classmate who stalked Joe in three episodes of Wings.
Thanks again for your visit and comment, good buddy Alex!
Hi Shady! You must have power back! I hope all is well with you and Mrs. Shady. My brother still did not have power as of yesterday but hoping for today. I haven't heard yet. Today's hosts certainly are of the creepy side. I actually liked the first song that I've heard on the radio quite a bit. As far as the shows go I haven't seen them...except for The Queen's Gambit. I loved that movie! All the other songs I've known except for the one from Groundbreaker. I'm sure I'll get to know the shows and the hosts as time goes by and see what songs they choose. So I guess I'll just say: "Oops I've done it again"...commented on your post and enjoyed the music! Stay safe as you go about getting back to normal in Florida. Prayers for you and your neighbors and others during this tragedy. Hugs from Ohio Shady!
ReplyDeleteHi, YaYa!
DeleteThanks for coming right over on day one, dear friend! I'm mighty pleased to have you here to meet six more Shady Bunch wannabes who are trying out for deejay jobs on SPMM Retro Radio.
Yessum, we've had power back on for a few days now, and our 60 hour cable and TV outage has also mercifully come to an end. I'm dreadfully sorry to read about the continued hardships for those hit hard by Ian, including your brother and nephew. The hurricane dragged a nice cool front through our region which kept people w/o power more comfortable than they would have been, but now the temp is on the rise again and it will be miserable for people and animals southwest of us who still are without power.
I'm excited that you have actually heard "Kings & Queens" on the radio from time to time. If you listen carefully, the chorus sounds a lot like "You Give Love A Bad Name" by Bon Jovi. Can you hear the similarity? I am also delighted to learn that you watched and loved the Netflix mini series The Queen's Gambit. How about that 1960s pop and pop-rock soundtrack with boomer oldies playing almost constantly in every episode?
Thank you again for your concern and prayers for the thousands suffering and sweltering in the wake of that terrible hurricane. We'll take all the hugs we can get. Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend YaYa!
Good morning, Tom! Sounds like an exciting new post series chocked with good music. It doesn't surprise me entirely to discover Steve Overland is new to my ears. I really like his sound. Could I have heard his stuff before now but didn't know it was him? I don't know but I'm gonna head over to YouTube to sample more of his songs. 60s singer Arlene Harden and pop rocker, Ava Max are introductions. Both ladies showcase their talent well in songs you shared. When I get a chance I'll have to listen to more by them.
ReplyDeleteWe don't subscribe to Netflix. I am familiar with Scandal. This looks like a series that's up our alley but have yet to see it. I've heard of Big Sky but we haven't watched it. I'm unsure if I'd like this kind of series, though.
I'm glad things are looking up for you and other Floridians. Hopefully the systems brewing off shore that you told me about won't be nasties but we're continuing to keep prayers lifted for y'all.
I threw together an unexpected post for today. DD#2 is heading home for little brother's wedding on Saturday. We're excited to have the whole family coming together.
Have a wonderful day, my friend!
Hi, Cathy!
DeleteThanks for dropping in, dear friend!
Yessum, British singer and musician Steve Overland and his latest "project" (band) Groundbreaker capture that retro 80s soft-rock sound that we have heard many times before on classic rock radio stations, YouTube and on the blog circuit. They remind me of Journey, Survivor, Foreigner and other light-rock and power pop bands of the 80s. Steve was lead singer and songwriter for the UK-based bands bands Wildlife, FM, The Ladder, Shadowman and Overland, but I don't know any of the songs by those groups. I'm glad you also singled out Ava Max and Arlene Harden, two female artists that I discovered around a year ago in my YouTube research.
I'm glad you know about Scandal and Big Sky. As it is with many series, the early seasons are the best in both cases. I realize that the twisted tales told on FX-AHS are too a bit too intense for your taste.
Thank you for keeping Floridians in your mind and heart as we grind through the long hurricane season. I'd like to turn my full attention to Halloween treats and not have to worry about the tricks mother nature might still play on us.
Congratulations on your son's upcoming wedding! It will be nice to see DD2 again and so soon after visiting her up north. Wait until she sees how much LA has grown!
Thanks again for coming to the preview platter party, dear friend Cathy. Enjoy the rest of your week and I'll see you on Friday at CAAC!
Hello, my friend Shady. Obviously I'm not on blogger much anymore. Nonetheless, I have been thinking a lot about you and your fellow Floridians. Fiona pummeled our Provinces in Canada's East pretty bad. And then followed Ian for the west of Florida. I hope, you don't live in that affected area. And if you do, how are you and your family doing? My friend in Fort Myers, wrote, that she travelled to the east part in order to escape Ian. Upon return, she found only minor damage to her house. But many, many were not so lucky. Please drop us a line, when you have time, hmmm? Sending love, Theo and cat. ❤️
ReplyDeleteHi, cat!
DeleteIt's wonderful to see you, dear friend! Thank you very much for paying me a visit!
Yessum, I know that parts of Eastern Canada were also assaulted by a recent hurricane. Thanks for thinking about me and other Floridians who recently endured the powerful cane named Ian. It was no picnic for us, but we survived with no damage to the house and only one uprooted shrub. At first light on the day after the storm passed through, we discovered numerous tree branches littering the yard and many large puddles that dried up in a few days time. We experienced a power outage that lasted 15 hours and a subsequent cable and internet outage that lasted 60 hours. All in all, it was nothing compared to what folks down on the southwest coast experienced which, as you know, included historic flooding and loss of life. It's remarkable that your friend in Fort Myers returned to her home to find only minor damage. How lucky she was!
I hope you and your kittycat Theo Thunderbutt are both well and in good spirits. Thanks again for your caring and concern and for you kind visit this morning. Take care and please come back to see me again soon, dear friend cat!
LUBBINS LUBBINS LUBBINS!

DeleteI've always liked that song King and Queens. I didn't know Ava's real name was Amanda. Enjoyed the video. Lots of rib-cage isolations. I once took a hip-hop dance class and did a lot of those! The cockatiels in the video were also kind of cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the congratulations regarding the wedding. It'll be a in a couple of weeks!
Hi, Sherry!
DeleteThanks for attending my latest preview platter party, dear friend! I'm overjoyed that your big day is coming up a couple of weeks from now! I wish you all the happiness there is as you, an author, begin a new chapter of your life story.
Everybody seems to know the "Kings & Queens" song, but I never heard it until I discovered pop zinger Ava Max a year or so ago and delved into her catalog. I'm glad you like the song and paid close attention to the goings on in the video. I am amazed how many high quality music videos that young women cranks out. They all have a high budget look and are quite enjoyable to watch. The sound quality is also first rate.
Thanks again for stopping in, dear friend Sherry, and once again congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
The Ava Max song sounded familiar to me, too, but not the hip hop part. I looked it up in Wikipedia and found out why. Ignore the lyrics but listen to the chorus' melody:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dInPICDBh5c
Also from Wikipedia:
"In popular music, interpolation (also called a replayed sample) refers to using a melody—or portions of a melody (often with modified lyrics)—from a previously recorded song but re-recording the melody instead of sampling it. Interpolation is often used when the artist or label who owns the piece of music declines to license the sample, or if licensing the piece of music is considered too costly."
Hi, Kirk!
DeleteYes, it seems like many recording artists and remix/producer types are borrowing catchy riffs and refrains from well known hit songs and using them in new songs of their own.
In his comment on the Bonnie Tyler song you recommended, James Loveland wrote:
<< If Kings were Women and Queens were Men, they'd give love a bad name, but then they'd die and go to heaven, which is a place on earth, and they'd be living on a Prayer. >>
Spelling it out in response to a fellow YouTuber who found his comment puzzling, James offered the following explanation:
<< The "If Kings were Women and Queens Were Men" Part in my comment, was a mix reference to both Ava Max's Kings and Queens and Bonnie Tyler's 'If You were a Woman and I was a Man"
The part in my comment that says 'They'd give love a bad name' is easy to guess what that is a reference to.
The Part that you're referring to in my comment, is a reference to 'Heaven is a Place on Earth' by Belinda Carlisle
and the last one is also easy to guess as well. >>
To sum it up, the Ava Max song sounds like the Bonnie Tyler song which sounds like the Belinda Carlisle hit "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" which sounds like two different Bon Jovi hits, "You Give Love A Bad Name" and "Livin' On A Prayer."
With all of the soundalike songs being released in recent years, including those that blatantly engage in sampling, seems fewer people than ever are familiar with novelist Herman Melville's quote:
<< It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation. >>
Thanks for your visit and comment, Kirk, and have a great weekend!
Hi Shady, I enjoyed all these songs very much. "Kings Queens" was a lot of fun, a song to dance to. Always love the Supremes, when I was a teen I thought their clothes were beautiful too. Arlene did a bang-up job on "Only the Lonely." She has a voice that sounds good on a Roy Orbison song. I'm impressed by the longevity of Steve Overland. Good for him. Good voice. Now Britney Spears, my daughters adored her when in their 30s, my granddaughters too. I have to admit I loved her songs, at least the first big hits she had. One mother friend asked Christine, "Do you let your daughters watch Britney Spears!?" She said, "Watch it? I want to BE Britney Spears!" Lol. I'm sorry for Britney though and hope the best for her.
ReplyDeleteMy mom loved, Prime Suspect, but I only watched one episode. I'm hopelessly upset by some murder shows. You can probably guess I haven't seen any of the other shows you mentioned. Dan and I just finished watching Loki again and are now watching all the Avenger movies. That kind of mayham and killing doesn't bother me. It was a lot of fun reading about the crazy plots on TV though! Thanks again.
Hi, Belle!
DeleteThanks for joining the fun, dear friend! I just now found your comment. I have a bad habit of not carefully checking previous posts for comments whenever a new one is published.
I'm so glad to see you and to know that you enjoyed the mixed bag of musical genres represented in this sneak preview of Shady's Place coming attractions.
Yessum, Berry Gordy made sure the guys and girls on his Motown recording roster cleaned-up good. He sent Diana Ross and other female singers to charm school where they learned how to dress, wear their hair and best present themselves so that white audiences would accept them and buy their records. The Supremes were prime examples of that extensive grooming. They always looked elegant.
Yessum, Arlene Harden released an entire album of Roy Orbison covers, and you are bound to hear more of them on Ronald Pergman's new SPMM radio show Sky King. I'm pleased that you admire the work of Steve Overland. "Standing On The Edge Of A Broken Dream" by his Groundbreaker band sounds like a 1980s release instead of a song born during the 2020s pandemic.
I appreciate how you and the women and girls in your lovely family remained unashamed of liking Britney Spears even though she was considered by many to be a shocking and controversial performer when she burst onto the music scene in the late 1990s.
I'm sorry you didn't stick with Prime Suspect. It's a great series and Helen Mirren is tops. If scripts that have murder in the plot upset you, then you will miss many great TV shows and movies including numerous British TV series that Mrs. Shady and I have watched and recommend along with the classic films of Alfred Hitchcock and other great directors. Now that I have read the rest of your comment, I think I understand that violence and killing on the screen are okay with you if presented as fantasy in the context of the Marvel superhero universe, but that you are put-off by more realistic, graphic depictions such as those found in the American Horror Story series.
I highly recommend The Queen's Gambit, the miniseries about an orphaned chess prodigy. Beth slays her opponents, but only on the chess board. :) The series' soundtrack is loaded with 1960s boomer hits.
Thank you again, very much, for letting me know you checked out this special post. I do hope you will drop by again in the next 5 days and let the charming Nolan Sisters entertain you in my current post. Have a wonderful week ahead, dear friend Belle!
