"I Know Where It's At" - All Saints
 (Sept./Oct. 1997, highest chart pos. #4 UK,
 #1 Canada Dance/#7 Canada/#36 U.S. Hot 100

You just saw and heard All Saints, an English-Canadian
girl group formed in London in 1993... part of the
90s wave of successful British pop girl groups.

Hi, I'm Melissa Kitt, one of the stalked sorority sisters in
the 2006 slasher film Black Christmas aka Black X-Mas.

I am also one of Shady's Leading Ladies... the
Scream Queens from his favorite horror movies.

Think I look like Dawn, the girl from Buffy? I get that a lot.

And I'm Dana Mathis, another Scream Queen and another sorority
babe hunted by a psycho killer in the horror thriller Black X-Mas.

Think I look like Claudia from Party of Five? I get that a lot.

Welcome to a special tribute featuring the exciting hit songs and videos of
All Saints. The act began as an all English trio known as All Saints 1.9.7.5.,
a name inspired by the birth year of members Melanie Blatt and Shaznay
Lewis. The third member of the group, Simone Rainford, left in 1996.

When Simone departed, the act was turned into a quartet (above)
with the addition of the Canadian Appleton sisters, Natalie and
Nicole, and their name was shortened to All Saints. With this
lineup, the group had a hit streak that lasted nearly ten years.

I suppose you could call us "The Heathers." I'm Heather Fitzgerald,
the third main character sorority girl trying to stay alive in Black X-Mas.

Think I look like Michelle from 10 Cloverfield Lane

I get that a lot.

And I'm Heather, star of the cutting edge 2013
slasher movie Texas Chainsaw 3D.

Think I look like Allison from Malevolence 2: Bereavement

I get that a lot.

All Saints scored the biggest hit of their career with the second single
from their self-titled debut album released in 1997. The song topped
the charts in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and cracked the
top 5 in the U.S. Here are All Saints and-- "Never Ever."

"Never Ever" (US Version) - All Saints
(Dec. 1997/Jan. 1998, highest chart pos. #1 UK
 #1 Australia & New Zealand/#4 U.S. Hot 100)

I'm Scream Queen Christine Brown, a young career woman
who falls victim to a gypsy curse in Drag Me To Hell...

...the 2009 supernatural horror film co-written and directed by Sam Raimi.

Think I look like Angela from Matchstick Men? I get that a lot.

At the start of 2001, All Saints released a dirty ditty that drew
praise from some critics and negative reviews from others.

The single fell just short of the top 5 on the UK chart.
Here now are All Saints with their naughty hip hop,
P-funk and R&B song-- "All Hooked Up."

 (Jan./Feb. 2001, highest chart pos. #7 UK/#8 Scotland & Belgium)

I'm Sarah, the babysitter tormented by a killer clown in
the 2013 American horror anthology film All Hallows' Eve.

Think I look like Monica Brown from Terrifier?

I get that a lot.

Following the release of "All Hooked Up," All Saints went on a five year
hiatus, made necessary by personal conflicts within the group. The girls
reunited five years later and achieved a comeback with a single that
hit #3 on the UK chart. Here again are All Saints and- "Rock Steady."

Hi, I'm Rachel, a Scream Queen from Pernicious, a Thai-American
supernatural horror film released just in time for Halloween in 2014.

Think I look like Pamela from Deadly Famous?

I get that a lot.

In late 1998 and early '99, All Saints achieved their 5th top 10 hit in
the UK with a soulful ballad. The music video was shot in London's
famous Met Bar. Here now are All Saints with-- "War Of Nerves."

"War Of Nerves" - All Saints
(Dec. 1998/Jan. 1999, highest chart pos.
 #7 UK/#9 Scotland/#10 Netherlands)

I'm Julia, another lead character in the 2014 spookfest Pernicious.

Think I look like of Jana Hawkes, Kevin Fisher's wife
on The Young And The Restless? I get that a lot.

Now let's hear one of the songs our spotlight group released
early in their career when they were a trio calling themselves
All Saints 1.9.7.5. and the lineup included Simone Rainford
who sadly died young in 2013 just after her 38th birthday.
This song that Simone and the trio recorded in the mid 90s
was released two different years and with two different titles.

The song went from "If You Wanna Party (I Found Lovin')"
in 1995 to "Let's Get Started" in 1997 to coincide with the
re-launch of All Saints with the Appleton sisters. Check it out!

"Let's Get Started" - All Saints 1.9.7.5./All Saints

I'm Alex, the third Scream Queen from Pernicious.

Think I look like Nicole from Blood Lake:
Attack of the Killer Lampreys?  I get that a lot.

The 2006 All Saints reunion that yielded the hit single "Rock Steady"
didn't last. Once again, the group broke-up, but got back together
in 2013. In 2016, All Saints went on their first headlining tour
in 15 years, visiting 10 British cities in support of their
comeback album Red Flag. Here's the second single
released from Red Flag-- "This Is A War."

Hi, I'm Ellie Myers, Scream Queen star of the 2005
Wes Craven werewolf horror/comedy movie Cursed.

Think I look like Wednesday from The Addams Family?

I get that a lot.

We hope you enjoyed meeting more of Shady's Leading Ladies,
the Scream Queens from his favorite horror movies.

To play us off, our featured artists, All Saints, do their hit cover of
"Lady Marmalade," originally a 1975 chart-topper by the American
R&B group Labelle. The song was also famously covered in 2001
by Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa, and Pink on the soundtrack
of Nicole Kidman's musical romantic drama film Moulin Rouge!

The All Saints version of "Lady Marmalade" was released in 1998 as a
double A-side with "Under The Bridge." Both songs reached the top of
the chart in the UK. The music video shows the All Saints ladies joining
a bunch of party people on a floor of a New York skyscraper at night.
Now for all of the Scream Queens this is Ellie Myers saying good-
bye and reminding you that life can be a scream. See ya!

  2. OK, it seems to be working today. This girl band is talented even though they are not my style. I decided to listen to the songs rather than watch the video. The one song that created a bit of a furor is probably due to the filming of the video I think they(whoever they is), took things too far. I have heard much more coming from other pieces of music so they need to chill. I will look up that poo girl who died way too young. I'm loving the horror gals who keep doing double duty at another job. They do have doppelgängers but they probably get that a lot:)) wishing you a beautiful day and Harley says woof, woof.

    1. Hi, Birgit!

Thanks for coming right over to claim the Early Bird title, dear friend!

I'm delighted that you recognize the talent of All Saints, a pop, R&B and EDM girl group in the UK that formed in the mid 1990s and is still active today. Are you saying that you experienced their videos with Eyes Wide Shut? (Tom & Nicole movie reference).

Yessum, some of the song lyrics and images used in All Saints videos place them squarely on the edgy side of the spectrum. If you break it down, though, their most controversial song, "All Hooked Up," is nothing more than a woman telling a male admirer who only wants one thing (her booty), that she is not interested because she is in a relationship with someone else. As such, it is similar to "My Boyfriend's Back" by The Angels and countless other pop songs about guys trying to steal girls away from their boyfriends or entice them to cheat.

I am also pleased that you enjoyed the "slide show" of horror movie posters and the chance to meet more Scream Queens, a series saluting some of my favorite actresses and characters that appear in horror and thriller films. This particular group includes some of the most popular young actresses of the 21st century including Michelle Tractenberg, Lacey Chabert, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Alexandra Daddario, Alison Lohman and Christina Ricci. In addition, Y&R fans will certainly recognize pernicious star Emily O'Brien who played Jana Hawkes Fisher, Kevin's wife, for many years.

I'm very happy to know that my good buddy Harley gave me a woof woof shout out. Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend BB!

  3. All Saints is new to me. Their rendition of Lady Marmalade's not bad. (I'll always like Patti LaBelle's best)

I'm afraid you lost me with all the other women in the post. I never got into slasher films and don't recognize anyone.

    1. Hi, Kelly & Pat!

The Silver is yours, all yours, dear friend! Thanks for coming early to avoid the long lines that will surely form at the Shady's Place entrance later in the day and week. :)

I'm pleased to introduce you to All Saints, another notable girl group that made a huge impact back home in the UK and in other countries, but were not as well known in America. I'm glad you appreciate their rendition of "Lady Marmalade."

Most of the Scream Queens in this post are popular actresses best known outside the horror genre. For example, in addition to her breakout role as Dawn in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Michelle Tractenberg (Black X-mas) is known for her roles in teen dramas and coming-of-age comedies that include Gossip Girl, The Adventures of Pete & Pete and Harriet the Spy. Lacey Chabert (Black X-mas) is best known as Claudia on the TV family drama Party of Five. Alison Lohman (Drag Me To Hell) starred with Michelle Pfeiffer in the film drama White Oleander. Ciara Hanna (Alex in Pernicious) played the role of Heather Locklear in The Unauthorized Melrose Place Story. Emily O'Brien (Julia in Pernicious) played the role of Kevin Fisher's girlfriend and wife on the award winning daytime drama Y&R. Christina Ricci (Cursed) delighted me as one of the flight attendants and featured characters in the TV series Pan Am and had significant roles on the hit series Ally McBeal and Grey's Anatomy.

Thanks again for coming by, dear friend Kelly!

    1. Hi, Alex!

Thanks for dropping in, good buddy!

Good eye, Alex! Melissa from Black X-mas looks like Dawn from Buffy, and also looks like Marina Oswald, wife of Lee Harvey Oswald, in the 2013 TV docudrama Killing Kennedy. Dana from Black X-mas looks like Claudia from Party of Five. Ellie Myers of Cursed is a dead ringer for Wednesday Addams. The list goes on and on... :)

Thanks again for taking a peek at the post, good buddy Alex!

  5. Good evening Shady. As a gal who loves Halloween I'm not fond of hash and slash movies so I don't know any shown here. I also didn't know this group and even though they're talented and lovely, I wasn't fond of their sound. I like the original "Lady Marmalade" better. The one actress I did recognize looks a lot like Lacey Chabert...I bet she gets that a lot! I think I've spent too much time on the Hallmark channel! Anyway, I hope you're having a wonderful week and will also have a good weekend. We've been in a little bit of a freeze but warmth is coming back this weekend. Poor Annabelle has been sick this week and spent some time at the Vet. Still not sure what's going on with her and hopefully it's just a stomach issue that will soon clear up. I've spent that last 2 nights up with her and thankfully I've not had to work much this week. Anyway, keep her in your thoughts for a good recovery. Take care Shady!

    1. Hi, YaYa!

I'm happy to see you, dear friend! Thanks for being one of the first through the gate to witness these performances by another noteworthy girl group, the half English - half Canadian act named All Saints. I'm sorry you aren't fond of the group's sound. Obviously I like them so much that I decided they were worthy of this tribute. I actually like the All Saints version of "Lady Marmalade" a lot more than the other two I mentioned in the text. I was never fond of the song until I heard the All Saints recording of it.

Over the years, and to my regret, I have met very few females who like slasher movies. Circa 1980, I was lucky enough to meet a young woman who loved films of the genre, and she and I had a wonderful time watching them together as "movie buddies." It was a purely platonic relationship but, at the same time, a very rewarding and satisfying one, because we were on the same wavelength. We'd meet at a movie theater, watch a fright flick and then go somewhere for a bite to eat and discuss the film like Siskel & Ebert. We had many fun times together.

You are correct. That's fan favorite Lacey Chabert in Black Christmas. Yessum, I do believe you might be spending too much time on the Hallmark channel, dear friend. Those movies will warp your mind. :) Many times I have started watching movies categorized as "thrillers," but within seconds realize, to my dismay, that they are Hallmark or Lifetime productions. The "Love Boat" background music is the first clue, and I can't get my hands on the remote fast enough to change channels. :) In this set, my Picks to Click among the movies are Texas Chainsaw, All Hallows Eve, Pernicious and Drag Me To Hell. All four boast spectacular, iconic scenes and special effects. Black Xmas was entertaining, but the biggest draw was the all star cast. Cursed relied mainly on the star power of Christina Ricci.

Well, I seem to be striking out with you more often than not in recent weeks. I suppose that is to be expected during Halloween season when I pay tribute to great horror movies and post heavy metal and sophisticated, adult-oriented club sounds like these. I hope to win your favor in the month of November when I return to more balanced programming.

I am very sorry to learn that my sweetie pie Annabelle is under the weather. I wonder if it somehow stems from your recent family gathering. I hope you will keep letting us know how she's doing, what the vet is saying, etc., because you know how much I care about her. I will indeed keep Annabelle in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you again for coming over, dear friend YaYa. I wish you better days ahead with Annabelle and hopefully a happy and restful weekend!

  6. I assume Black Christmas is a remake of the 1974 movie with Olivia Hussey, Margot Kidder, Andrea Martin (!) and John Saxon, written and directed by Bob Clark, who later blessed humanity with another Christmas-themed movie, one considerably less bloody (though a tongue frozen to a flagpole is not for the squeamish.)

Very talented female quartet. My favorite this time is "Rock Steady". It's also my favorite video, but then I'm always a sucker for black-and-white videos with film noir-meets-go go girls imagery. And with a Gestapo officer to boot! Or was that the bank guard?

And finally, even though it doesn't displace Patti LaBelle's version in my heart, I did like All Saints take on "Lady Marmalade."

Klaatu barada nikto, Kirk! Thanks for coming to the spook fest which serves as the backdrop for a concert by the notable Canadian-English girl group All Saints. Whenever I am reminded of actor Keir Dullea, one of the stars of the movie you mentioned, Black Christmas (1974), my mind immediately jumps to his co-starring role, along with artificial intelligence character HAL, in 2001: A Space Odyssey, a spectacle I witnessed on the big screen at State College upon its release in 1968. I acquired the DVD years ago when I received as a gift the Stanley Kubrick Collection which includes Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket. Highly recommended!

Where were we? OH, now I remember - my post and my artificial intelligence. Actually, there have been several Black Christmases released over the years. In addition to the one I posted, the 2006 release which has an all-star cast of popular actresses from teen-oriented family, romance and fantasy TV shows and movies, and the movie you mentioned with Keir Dullea, there is a 2019 Black Christmas and one called Black Christmas: 2021 Remake in which the stalker-SLASH-slasher breaks into a frat house instead of a sorority house.

I'm delighted that you were not driven away by images of chainsaw wielding geeks and killer clowns to the extent that you couldn't or wouldn't give All Saints a chance to prove themselves worthy of your attention. The ladies sing in tight harmony, move about gracefully and bring sexyback. Moreover, they released some very interesting music videos in their career. I'm glad you singled out "Rock Steady," because I too found it captivating. Watch again from around the 2:50 mark as they rob a bank with bullwhips!

      That's what I'm talkin' about!
      That's what I'm talkin' about!
      That's what I'm talkin' about!

My other favorites are "Never Ever," "War Of Nerves," "This Is A War" and their cover of "Lady M."

Thanks for getting it, Kirk. It's Halloween - time for thrills and chills on the screen and in my Shady's Place posts - and I'm very happy that you were entertained by the featured music act and the Scream Queen tributes.

Have a great weekend, good buddy Kirk!

  7. All Saints is new to me. They have a good sound though.

I love this time of year. All kinds of spooky, horror movies to watch and I've seen Drag Me To Hell and loved that one.

Texas Chainsaw is another favorite. Cursed was so good. I'll be seeing what horror movies are on that I can watch. Maybe I'll even find one that I haven't seen before. Have a great week.

    1. Hi, Mary!

Thanks for coming by, dear friend!

I am excited to encounter another satisfied Shady's Place customer. :) I knew you'd enjoy this assortment of Scream Queens and posters of the horror films in which they appear. Black X-mas is basically your favorite stars of popular youth-oriented TV series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Party of Five getting picked-off one by one by a phantom stalker/slasher. Topping the credit list on that film is the ever popular Katie Cassidy, star of the DC Comics superhero TV series Arrow, The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow. I'm happy to learn that you have already seen Christina Ricci in Cursed along with Texas Chainsaw 3D and the Sam Raimi movie Drag Me To Hell. I love to smooch, but I don't want that old gypsy's mouth anywhere near mine! :) I have seen several Texas Chainsaw sequels in recent months, and I chose the one in this post, the 2013 release, because it stars Alexandra Daddario, an actress I admire. I also enjoyed Alexandra's earlier horror film Malevolence 2: Bereavement. I also highly recommend Pernicious, the supernatural horror film that stars three of the Scream Queen beauties in this post: Ciara Hanna, Emily O'Brien and Jackie Moore.

I also urge you to BOLO for the three hottest new horror icons. The first is Victor Crowley, a revenge-seeking spirit that haunts the swamp and hunts human prey. Victor Crowley has already been featured in four films: Hatchet 1, 2 and 3 and Victor Crowley. The other very exciting horror icon is Art the Clown, shown in the poster for All Hallows Eve and in my right sidebar. In addition to All Hallows Eve, Art the killer Clown can be seen in Terrifier 1 & 2. He's an absolute hoot and a ruthless, merciless killer.

I'm also pleased that you enjoyed the musical entertainment of All Saints, a popular girl group across the pond that is not nearly as well known here in the states.

Thanks again for your kind visit and great comments, dear friend Mary! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll be over to see you at Dark Thoughts tomorrow!

  9. Oh my dear Shady - I am sorry I missed a post from you but we were in Oregon again for an emergency visit. Mom-in-law was getting conflicting stories about the house she has for sale so we went up to make sure all was okay, which of course it was. Hopefully it will sell soon. We were able to do a few things around her new place for her and take her shopping for some groceries and things she needed so now she feels more relaxed. We also took her out to lunch one day and dinner the next. The food at the retirement facility is not so great in her opinion.

I am not familiar with this girl group nor their songs. They are a cute bunch though. Their song, "Never Ever" made me think of the Supremes and "All Hooked Up" reminded me of the group TLC. I do know the song "Lady Marmalade" and they did a really good cover of it.

Thanks for introducing me to some new music again. You certainly have a flair for finding lovely ladies. I'll be spending next week in the studio getting ready for the holiday shows I have coming up and catching up on some typing that came in while I was gone. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend my friend!

    1. Hi, Janet & Benny!

I'm excited and delighted to see you, dear friend(s)!

Family always comes first, and I completely understand, Janet. I admire you for running up to another state over and over again when called upon to help get your MIL settled. I can understand why she was experiencing anxiety if she was getting conflicting stories about her longtime home. It was also special of you and Bill to take her out to dine so that she could get way from the facility for a while. It's a shame you don't live closer to her so that these visits could occur more often and with less hassle on your part.

I'm pleased that your found things to like about the featured music act All Saints. Yessum, they bring to mind the girl groups you mentioned, The Supremes and TLC, along with other pop and R&B girl groups of the period including two in the UK that Malcolm Winters presented here at Shady's Place: Atomic Kitten and Mis-Teeq, plus Girls Aloud, The Saturdays, Girlicious, En Vogue, Pussycat Dolls and others. If you really listen to their songs, they are beautifully produced, and the videos are sexy and edgy, which is, for the most part, a requirement of this genre if a group intends to compete and get noticed. I'm glad you enjoyed their "Lady Marmalade" cover. I was very happy to find the official music video for that song with such good sound and picture clarity.

I'm delighted that you enjoyed the post and encountered a new-to-you music act. Maybe you'll find one or more of their songs playing in your noggin and keeping you company while you do your transcription work and prepare for upcoming holiday craft shows.

Thank you again for finding time for a visit and have a wonderful week ahead, dear friend Janet!

  10. Hi Shady! I love the wonderful harmony between these women. Very nice. The way they covered, "Lady Marmalade," was very different but very good. I would say my favorite songs were, "This is A War," "Rock Steady," and "I Know Where It's At." I didn't listen to much music in the '90s and it seems so different than music today. Am I right? I mostly listen to Christian Rock, most of which I find is fantastic, so I'm not too educated on what is up to date in real rock music. I enjoyed getting to know the, All Saints. They are excellent singers and have great stage presence.

My computer is almost up to snuff, although I just found out my husband forgot to connect it to the printer, but that's okay. He's doing it tomorrow. It is a nightmare to have your computer crash. May it never, ever happen to you. Lol. Thanks for the fun tonight.

    1. Hi, Belle!

I'm delighted that you could stop in and see my tribute to All Saints and meet Scream Queens from some of my favorite horror films. Welcome, dear friend, and thank you for coming!

I'm glad you found a lot to like in the singing and choreography of these young women. I'm delighted that your ears agree with mine that they turned in a worthy cover of "Lady Marmalade." I have never been very fond of the original mid 70s version by Patti Labelle, and never took much of a liking to the 2001 hit cover by Christina Aguilera and her group. All Saints give the song a fresh new sound that I like a lot, and I enjoy the music video produced for the song.

I'm sure you read that half of the All Saints group during its hit-making years consisted of the Canadian sisters Nicole and Natalie Appleton. They hail from the cities of Hamilton and Mississauga in Ontario. The sisters also perform as a duo called Appleton.

I have not tried to stay current on the popular music scene since I left my job in MTV. All Saints rose to fame as part of the 1990s wave of British girl groups that also included Spice Girls, Little Mix, R&B, Girls Aloud, Mis-Teeq, Atomic Kitten and Sugababes. Their sound evolved during the early years of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and is similar to that of Destiny's Child, En Vogue, TLC, Wild Orchid. Girlicious and other U.S. girl groups. I felt that All Saints was certainly worthy of a tribute because I like all of these posted songs of theirs, and because the group has achieved longevity, breaking up and making up over a long time span, giving us more great songs every time they reunite.

Yessum, I know how aggravating it is to have your computer crash. We had a brief power outage last night and mine was acting up for hours afterward. When it went to sleep, it wouldn't "wake up" again, and I kept having to turn the power off and back on.

Thank you again, very much, for your kind visit and comments, dear friend Belle. Stick around to meet a cute puppy dog and a charming dolly in tomorrow's post. Have a wonderful week!

Your featured group sounded familiar. It did a quick search on CAAC and sure enough I used one All Saints' songs in 2018, "Black Coffee" for 4M.

My favorite song in your line up is "This Is A War". I just liked the overall sound. I'm glad you stopped by today and let me know that this post ends today. I've been under the weather with seasonal allergies for more than a week. I haven't had an episode like this in years. I hope I get over this fast. I hate feeling yucky.

How do you like that? You featured an All Saints song on CAAC four years ago, but it was different from all of the ones in this set. You singled out a great song from this post. I too picked "This Is A War" as one of my favorites by All Saints, and I did so because of the overall sound, not necessarily because of the video.

I'm very sorry to learn that you've been "poorly" for more than a week. I hope it is merely seasonal allergies and that they will soon clear up.
On your site this morning, I forgot to mention your DD and her BFF in Maine along with LA in TN. I've been thinking bout them and hope they have all bounced back from their recent illnesses as well.

Thank you again for stopping by. Please rest and take care of yourself and I hope to see you back here again to check out my next post which starts tamale. Feel better and have a great week, dear friend Cathy!
