Who would ever suspect that one of the brightest rising stars of

South Korean K-pop was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma? 

Alexandra Christine Schneiderman aka Alex Christine,

currently known professionally as AleXa, is a

multilingual singer and dancer now

based in South Korea.

The daughter of a Korean adoptee, AleXa is a leading

artist in the mind blowing world of K-pop, the

music genre originating in South Korea.

 AleXa competed in “Rising Legends” where nearly a million fan votes

made her the winner. Shortly after being signed to the ZB Label,

AleXa beat thousands of contestants to become one of the

96 chosen to participate in Mnet’s “PRODUCE 48,”

the most competitive audition show in Korea. 

K-pop artists and groups undergo years of intense training. As you will see,

the videos produced for female acts are dazzling spectacles showcasing

the women in colorful, fashionable outfits performing awesome

synchronized dance moves and formation changes. 

K-pop music reflects Western and African-American influences,

with sounds from Hip-hop, R&B, Jazz, black pop, soul, funk,

techno, disco, house, and Afrobeats. A single song can

take you on a thrill ride thru a mix of these genres.

 

In the wink of an eye, the mood can shift and the artist's

attitude change from sweet to sassy to rappy to powerful,

a fierce warrior and a burgeoning star in the underground kickboxing

world on the Netflix sci-fi drama Sense8. It has been nearly six years

since Shady Dell Knight explored the K-pop genre on his old blog.

a German DJ, record producer and musician who specializes in the EDM

genre known as "glitch-hop." Next, here's Alexa with a solo performance

of her second single album ReviveR. To borrow titles of hit songs from

Gene Pitney and The Rolling Stones, AleXa is "24 Hours From Tulsa"

million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours of its release,

becoming the platform's most-viewed music video by a

solo artist in the first 24 hours. The vid now boasts nearly

Korean cosmetics brand Kiss Me. Recently she was listed among

the top 10 most-followed Korean individuals on Instagram with

over 37 million followers. As a solo artist, Rosé's best known song

was released in March 2021 on her single album R which became

the best-selling album by a female soloist in the Korean chart's

history. The lead single became the highest-charting song by a

Korean female soloist in the US. It also debuted and peaked at

number 1 on the U.S. Global 200, the first song by a Korean

solo artist to do so in the chart's history. Here now is Rosé of

BLACKPINK with the lovely, introspective- "On The Ground."

A song from the 1965 album Beach Boys' Party!... that was "Barbara Ann"
featuring Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean on co-lead vocals along with
Brian Wilson and backed by America's Beach Boys. "Barbara-Ann"
was originally recorded in 1961 by the Bronx doo-wop group
The Regents who had a #13 charting hit with it. In early
1966 the Beach Boys cover topped the Cash Box chart
and reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the summer
of 1975, the Beach Boys' single made a return visit to the

the first transgender superhero on television.

Latin rock 'n' roll pioneer Ritchie Valens was
only seventeen years old when he died in an
Iowa plane crash along with Buddy Holly

and The Big Bopper on February 3, 1959,

a date immortalized in the Don McLean

song "American Pie" as "The Day the

Music Died." Ritchie's adaptation of

the Mexican folk song "La Bamba"

was released as a single at the end

of 1958 and charted in the weeks

before and after his tragic death.

Sixty years later, on the other side of the world,

The Fabsisters, the vocal duo of sisters Lola and Folake from the UK, went from

singing gospel in church and competing in talent shows to performing together at

charity events, open mics and gigs. Their YouTube channel has tens of thousands

of subscribers and their videos have attracted millions of views. To kick-off our

salute to diversity, The Fabsisters will cover a Sam Cooke song that is widely

considered his best composition, an anthem of the Civil Rights Movement

selected for preservation in the Library of Congress and classified by the

National Recording Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically

stands for "Know Me." I am proud to

introduce a talented young woman

named Anne Reburn. Born in Okla-

homa, Anne moved to Los Angeles

and in recent years became a star

on YouTube doing covers as well as

original songs. Anne sings multiple

vocal parts in synced harmony and

plays a variety of instruments.

Recently Anne breathed new life into "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing

(In Perfect Harmony)," the song that was originally the jingle of the 1971
Coca-Cola commercial "Buy the World a Coke." The soft drink reference
was dropped and the song re-recorded by two groups - The New Seekers
and The Hillside Singers and both acts scored major hits with it on both
sides of the pond. Here now is Anne Reburn singing "I'd Like To Teach
