    1. Hi, Kelly!

The Early Bird award goes to you again, dear friend! Thanks for joining me and other Dell rats in remembering Helen Ettline, the First Lady of the Shady, on the anniversary of her death.

As you recall, I have been using this Nat - Natalie simulated duet every year at this time. The song is ideal for this occasion and I see no reason to make a change. I'm glad you appreciated it.

Thanks again for coming over first thing in your day, dear friend Kelly. Enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Hi, Mary!

  3. Hi Tom, I know you always post about Helen and John and I've said before I feel like I know them because of your tributes. This song brings tears to my eyes because it could be said of so many of my family members and even a couple of friends who have passed away not so long ago. They are unforgettable. Jack's Mom passed in February of 2000 and then his Dad in 2001. So many good memories that I know could be said for you and the Dell. What a great impression these two wonderful people made on you and I'm sure all the other "Dell Rats". Thanks for the reminder and tribute today. RIP Helen

    1. Hi, YaYa!

Thank you for being here today, as you have been every year for nearly a decade, to help me remember Helen on the anniversary of her death.

Yessum, I was just thinking that the words to this wonderful song apply to all of the family members and friends we have lost over the years, and you and Jack certainly have lost many. I am deeply sorry you have suffered so many recent losses. I would like to add that the song also applies to our beloved pets. They too are unforgettable.

It warms my heart when you tell me you feel like you know Helen and John based on the stories and tributes I have posted over the years. You are a true Dell rat at heart and I am fortunate to have you as a friend.

Thank you again for coming over and sharing kind words about the Ettlines on this special date on the Shady dell calendar. You always come through and I greatly appreciate it.

Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend YaYa!

  4. Hi friend Shady! I was excited to see that I had an email telling me you had a new post up. I remember seeing this father/daughter duet on TV for the first time and it made me cry. What a great tribute song for a woman who is obviously very special to you. Hope you and the Mrs. have a great weekend. I am participating in another craft show tomorrow. Wish me luck!

    1. Hi, Janet!

Thanks for setting aside time for a visit last evening, dear friend! For several years in a row, I have posted this same tribute featuring the otherworldly father - daughter duet sung by Nat and Natalie Cole. The words and melody of the song, and the way it was presented on that live TV broadcast, make it ideal for use on this occasion as I honor Shady Dell First Lady Helen Ettline and remember her on the date of her death.

I'm happy to know you are getting email notifications about my posts after all. Thank you again for your kind visit and sweet words, and best of luck at the craft show today. Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend Janet!

    1. Hi Kirk!

Thanks. good buddy! The Ettlines did and do mean a lot to me, and that goes for thousands of other 20th century teenagers who were fortunate to know them and hang out at their Shady Dell. In the mid 2000s, something possessed me to start a blog based on my experiences there. Two of the biggest, most important Dell-related posts are coming up in the first half of this year, March and June, so stay tuned.

Thanks again for your visit and comment, good buddy Kirk!

  6. This is a beautiful song which captured so many hearts. It was a blaze for many other recording artists to sing duets with people who have died long before. This is a wonderful tribute to Helen. She is remembered by so many others now, because of you.

    1. Hi, Birgit!

Welcome in, dear friend! Thanks for attending this year's tribute to Helen as we mark 38 years since she left us.

Yessum, "Unforgettable" is a wonderful old song published in 1951 and first recorded that year by Nat King Cole, arrangement by Nelson Riddle. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000. The song, and Nat's virtual duet with daughter Natalie, is so appropriate for this occasion that I have been posting it year after year.

Thank you again for your visit and kind words, dear friend BB, and have a delightful week!

    1. Hi, Cathy!

I'm pleased to see you, dear friend, and hope you and DH had a nice weekend! Thanks for being here again this year for my salute to Helen Ettline on the anniversary of her death. I'm glad you picked up on the fact that Helen's smile and the twinkle in her eyes were two of the things I best remember and admired about her. I have found no better song to remember Helen than "Unforgettable" as sung by the father - daughter Cole duo.

Thanks again for coming by dear friend Cathy, and have a great week!

    2. Tom,

I think those we love usually possess that special twinkle of the eye and have heartwarming smiles. I also have fond remembrances of those I love who are no longer with us the same way. Isn't that interesting?

I'm dizzy with how fast this new year is slipping away. Thanks for joining me this morning in my March 1st BOTB. Have a terrific day, my friend!

    3. You got it, Cathy!

Yessum, the year is racing by. Aren't you thankful that you got started early on your A to Z posts? :)

I think you are right about people who flash warm, genuine smiles and have eyes that twinkle. We are naturally drawn to friendly, accessible, fun-loving people and fondly remember them and those trademark characteristics after they are gone.

Thanks again for being here for Helen and for me, dear friend Cathy!

    1. hi, Jessica Marie!

I'm happy to have found your comment, dear friend. Thanks for saying a few kind words for Helen again this year as we observe the sad anniversary of her death. 38 years does indeed feel like yesterday. I will always remember how shocked I was to learn that she died, and it was her husband John who broke the news to me right there at the Dell.

Thanks for remembering Helen again this year, dear friend JM!
