Well now you know... tonight... here on our really big shoe...
we've got a surprise for the youngsters in the studio
audience and all you little rugrats watching at home.
Right here on our stage... on our really big shoe...
is a musical group called IMY2, which stands for
"I miss you, too." They will perform their latest hit
"ILY Baby" which stands for "I Love You, Baby!"
Here they are-- the Dave Clark Five!
(Damn... wrong cue card! I meant
to say Hootie & The Blowfish!)
"ILY BABY!" - IMY2 (March 2023)
Kicking off our really big shoe, that was Annalise Mahanes
and her Nashville-based pop band IMY2 looking and sounding
like an act of the mid 1960s, doing their original song "ILY Baby."
I'm Taylor Kelly, TV reporter babe for Skywitness News 8 in LA.
As you might recall, I am one of the characters on 9-1-1...

"Sweet Mary" - Wadsworth Mansion
(Jan./Feb. 1971, highest chart pos. #5 Cash Box/#7 Hot 100)
Laying down the sound and keeping you out on the dance floor,
that was Wadsworth Mansion aka Wadsworth Family Mansion
(not to be confused with the AHS Murder House) with their
claim to fame "Sweet Mary," a single that made the top 5
winner's circle on the Cash Box chart in February, 1971.
The pop-rock quartet from Providence, Rhode Island,
took their name from the landmark Wadsworth Mansion
at Long Hill in Middletown, Connecticut. Unfortunately,
the group went into the history books as one-hit-wonders
because their two follow-up singles missed the Hot 100
and didn't even register on the Bubbling Under chart.
Hi, and welcome in!
I'm Dr. Mary Harris.

I'm not your granddaddy's Marcus Welby. I'm a new breed of doctor.
I kill people. (Hey, it's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it.)
I come to you from the aptly named Canadian TV drama
MARY KILLS PEOPLE
now screaming on Roku.
Just call me your
Charlie's Angel
of Mercy.
Yepper...
I kill people,
and I look
damn hot
doing it.
As a Shady Bunch DJ in training, I put the needle
in the groove... (and another in your arm).

Actually, that's not true. My work is not in vein (BA-DUM-BUMP).
Instead, I shoot my joy juice into a glass of champagne and you drink-it-up.
That way, there's no tell-tale mark left behind for the pesky police to find.
Here's how it works. If you're interested in my services, ring me up
and pay me $10,000. I'll make a house call and serve you my
lethal cocktail. Let's call it a Bloody Mary.
If you're a studly looking guy, I might level up the game by
shagging you first... before sending you to meet your maker.
You'll arrive at the Pearly Gates with a smile on your kisser.
Then, it's bottoms up and lights out, and you, my friend,
are off to see the Wizard! So... when I lose a patient...
it's a good thing - mission accomplished!

Naturally, my TV series was the inspiration behind my S-P-M-M radio show

I'll be back later to tell you more, but first, I'd like to bring on two of
your favorite health-care professionals, stars of the NBC-TV series ER.
Hello. I'm Dr. Jing-Mei

another Shady's Place exclusive!
Hi Shady,
ReplyDeleteI saw the "Stalked by my Doctor" movie. Very good movie. You have so much here to think about, some I remember well and some I don't. Thank you so much for sharing 😊 ❤️
Hi, Linda!
DeleteIt's great to see you again, my new old friend! :) Thanks for joining the fun here at Shady's Place and for being the "Early Bird" - the first to arrive and comment on the post.
I'm pleased to have you here today as I present a segment of my new blog series Spin Doctors, this one focused on the medical themed TV shows Mary Kills People and ER along with Eric Roberts' outrageous Lifetime TV movie series Stalked By My Doctor. For your listening pleasure, my viewing recommendations are accompanied by songs with a medical theme and "Mary" songs, a nod to Dr. Mary Harris, star of Mary Kills People, a Canadian series that you might enjoy.
There are actually 5 Stalked By My Doctor films:
Stalked by My Doctor (2015)
Stalked by My Doctor: The Return (2016)
Stalked by My Doctor: Patient’s Revenge (2018)
Stalked by My Doctor: A Sleepwalker’s Nightmare (2019)
Stalked by My Doctor: Just What the Doctor Ordered (2021)
I have seen every one of them and many other Eric Roberts movies. He is one of the most prolific actors ever with a list of credits a mile long.
Thank you again for coming down to see me, dear friend Linda. Have a safe and happy weekend!
Hello this fine day! It's my hubby's birthday and i am finishing a card for him. With working so long, I only have the weekends to do things..other than work. I l9ved almost all the music...not one for the heavy metal nor the Kiss song. You know me:)). Love that man, you had him here before, I think, who sang that classic rock song so well. I love that lady of poetry and a unique jazz vibe. I hope she doesn't disappear like so many have. I think most of them are not criminals. Do the people of your land not realize this is communists based? I thought all of the U S. Hated communists. I enjoyed the Chicago tune and the last song plus Jimi Hendrix whom I never appreciated when I was a teen and had to listen to it in the car. My brother loves him and has all his records even a few bootleg ones. I can now understand and really enjoy listening to him.
ReplyDeleteI have not watched any of these TV shows or that movie with Eric Roberts. He needs to play a good guy for once...hahaaa. I'm not into glorifying serial killers so I never watched Mary Kills People. I can watch a hitman movie, spies and war films but not that type. Oh well ...another great post with some lovely DJs. Wishing you a great week and month. Next M9nday is my birthday and I'll be 61! That does not compute. I fell, in my m8nd, not my body, like I am 35. Enjoy each day and here's to more music and movies.
Hi, Birgit!
DeleteThank you for paying me a visit on the weekend, dear friend. You grab the shiny silver medal for your second place finish!
Happy b-day to your hubby! I'm sure he will appreciate the card you are creating for him.
Yessum, I think you are referring to rocker Royston Calder who did a nice job covering the hit by Robert Palmer. Royston did indeed appear in one of my previous posts performing Eddie Money's biggie "Two Tix To Paradise."
And thanks for singling out the artist introduced by the Grown-ish twins, exotic Iyeoka, doing her signature song "Simply Falling." Although the song has been popular almost 15 years now, I only learned about it recently when one of Andrei Cerbu's Romanian female vocalists covered it. I swooned over the cover and again when I looked up the original.
Alejandro Manzano and his Sarasota-Florida based band Boyce Avenue have also entertained before here at Shady's Place covering S&G. I'm delighted that you enjoyed their Chicago cover along with the closing song by The Association and even the one by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. It's so cool that you developed a taste for Jimi over the years. I was elated to find that sync-edit video that combines the rare original film clip and newly remastered studio sound.
Dr. Mary is not portrayed as an evil serial killer on the Canadian TV series Mary Kills People. Instead, she is an angel of mercy. She performs painless (and often joyful) assisted suicides at the request of desperate people who are old, alone and/or gravely ill and suffering, often with the blessing of family members (but not law enforcement).
I never saw Eric Roberts play anything other than a villain or sketchy character. He cranks out dozens if not hundreds of el-cheapo sci-fi, horror and exploitation movies per year (and laughs all the way to the bank, no doubt).
Well, happy (upcoming) birthday to you, Birgit! If you're just turning 61, you are still a spring chicken. Shucks, I wish I could turn back the clock and be SEVENTY again! :) I know you think young, and that's one of the reasons I like you. If your mental age is 35, I got you beat. As you can tell by the content of this post and others I have presented, I have the mindset and maturity level of a 16 year old. :) I also want to congratulate you for erecting that nice new fence around your property.
Thanks again for making time for a visit and for your great comment, dear friend BB. Please give my buddy Harley a good smoochin' for me and take good care of yourself until we meet again sometime next month!
A good Sunday morning to you, Shady! I recognize quite a few of these songs, but I definitely have a favorite. The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix is a real winner. I'll keep that as my ear worm for the day. 🙂
ReplyDeleteI hope you and Mrs. Shady enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day weekend and that June is a great month for you! Pat sends his greetings.
Hi, Kelly & Pat!
DeleteThank you for rushing over to capture the bronze, dear friend! I hope you and your canines are safe and sound there in Arkansas, because I keep reading about rough weather sweeping through your area.
Hey, you are the second person to jump on the Jimi Hendrix bandwagon, and that thrills me. It had been ages since I listened to his classic track "The Wind Cries Mary." I was overjoyed recently when I discovered it on YouTube just in time to plug it into the song lineup of this post hosted by Spin Doctor Mary. I am always happy to plant a pleasing earworm in your noggin for the day, week or even month.
Yessum, thank you for extending holiday wishes and same to you and your family. Please give my buddy Pat a Milk-Bone and tell him Shady sent it. (He doesn't need to know the truth.)
Thank you again for setting aside time to visit on the holiday weekend and for your kind comment, dear friend Kelly. Enjoy Memorial Day down on the farm and take care until I see you again next month!
Hi Shady, I have come back to see your post once again. I remember the song "Sweet Mary" by the Wadsworth Mansion! I have always loved this song and it brings back so many good memories for me. I also remember "Along Comes Mary", but for some reason don't like it as much as the above-mentioned song.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonder filled week ahead, dear friend, thanks so much for all you share here. :)
Hi again, dear Linda!
DeleteThanks for dropping in again to continue our thread.
Yessum, "Sweet Mary" is a feel-good song, that's for sure, and I am delighted that it triggered fond memories for you. I too remember it well from my decade as a 20-something. As I wrote the intros for my presenters, I found it interesting to trace the origin of the band name to a real mansion in Middletown, Connecticut.
FYI - I remember "Along Comes Mary" from my Shady Dell days. My buddies and I sang parts of the song in unison, usually the verse that includes the reference to "the psychodramas and the traumas," but we never took time to learn all the lyrics. Around a year ago, I made up my mind to memorize the words to "Along Comes Mary" and, nowadays, I enjoy singing it to myself, mostly to challenge my memory and keep it sharp. If you look-up the lyrics, you will see that the song is much longer and much more complex than most other pop songs of the period.
Thank you again for your repeat visit and generous comment, dear friend Linda. I shall see you sometime around June 22 when I plan to publish my next post. Enjoy the rest of your spring up there in Montreal!
Ha! Mary Kills People, Indeed!
ReplyDeleteI just finished watching ER again. That was such a good show.
The KickStart My Heart cover was ok but I still like the original better. As well with Bad Case Of Loving You. Robert Palmer was great.
KISS has some great songs. I haven't listened to them in a while, must go find some now. Not a bad cover.
No one is as good as Peter Cetera in Chicago. His cover isn't bad but it's not Peter Cetera. lol I love his voice. So unique.
I hope you are well and have a good rest of your month.
I haven't seen the Eric Roberts movie but I have no doubt that he'll play a good stalker.
Hi, Mary!
DeleteWelcome in, dear friend and thanks for coming! As you can see, I'm "making Mary" and salivating "the Mary month of May" here at Shady's Place, plugging my favorite Mary TV show and playing notable songs that have Mary in the title.
Yessum, I think you would appreciate the TV series Mary Kills People starring Canadian actress Caroline Dhavernas. The unusual medical drama co-stars Jay Ryan, the New Zealand actor who played Seaman Billy 'Spider' Webb of the Australian Navy in Sea Patrol (2007–2009). Mrs. Shady and I are currently watching Sea Patrol on Tubi and highly recommend it. In fact, Mrs. S says Sea Patrol is her favorite show, and that's huge because she is very hard to please. We have also watched the entire run of ER on several occasions because it is her favorite hospital-based show.
I'm glad you approved of the cover by the Kiss tribute band. Yessum, you can count on Eric Roberts to convincingly play a stalkerish doctor in this Lifetime movie series. It's a hoot!
Thank you again for dropping in for my Mary post and for spreading cheer. I wish the birthday pooch - my buddy Falcor - a happy 11th and many more happy years as your faithful companion. Given that he is a smaller breed of dog, I am sure he has a long way to go. I plan to return with my next post around June 22 and I'll look for you then. Take care until we meet again, dear friend Mary!
Hey there my friend, what a gathering of doctors you have here. It is a particularly relevant post to my situation as we are taking care of MIL through the final stages and have been seeing doctors to help us. She is so tired of it all and it is hard to see her this way. I know she would like a visit from Dr. Mary.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Dr. Rick. Those commercials really crack me up as I see my hubby portrayed in a few of them and Eric Roberts is still pretty nice to look at.
The music was unfamiliar to me, but I did like the cover of the Robert Palmer song.
My daughter and I have started watching the series "The Pitt" with Noah Wylie. Have you heard of it? Based in a hospital in Pittsburgh, each episode covers an hour in the ER. It's pretty good.
Hope you and the Mrs. are doing well. I'm not blogging myself right now but hopefully will be able to get back to it soon. Have a wonderful month.
Hi, Janet!
DeleteIt's great to see you again, dear friend! Welcome to Spin Doctors, another Shady's Place exclusive, this volume featuring doctor characters from some of my favorite TV series, songs related to medical matters, and songs named after our Hostess With the Mostess - Dr. Mary Harris of Mary Kills People.
Ever since your MIL's medical crisis forced you to abort your A to Z Challenge early last month, I have been wondering how she (and you) are doing. It grieves me that she seems to be giving up the fight - tired of the endless battles that come with advanced age. I know you are rooting for her to make it to 100, but maybe that isn't important to her at this stage of the game. Whatever happens, you know, I know and everyone close to your situation knows that you have spent years now selflessly sacrificing, doing everything you can to assist Bill's mother. I will continue to think about her and you. Meanwhile, I want you to be the first friend to know that I just found out my dear cousin Betsy has died. A couple of years ago, she was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Its progression speeded up in the last 2 to 3 months and she passed away Friday at the too young age of 71. At least her terrible ordeal, her immeasurable suffering, has now ended.
I'm glad you are familiar with the long-running Dr. Rick ad campaign. It shows no sign of running out of steam. Pleased to know that you appreciated UK rocker Royston Calder and his cover of "Doctor Doctor."
Yessum, our granddaughter recommended The Pitt to us and we were going to start watching, seeing as how we loved "Carter" on ER. However, it would cost us extra to view it and we don't feel like spending the money right now when we have dozens of other good shows to watch. You should watch Code Black based at a hospital ER in Los Angeles. We watched it and enjoyed. There is also Pulse, a Netflix medical drama based at a hospital in Miami. We have not yet started watching it.
Thank you very much for taking time to drop by on your holiday, dear friend Janet. Please take good care of yourself so that you will have the strength to do all you are doing for your MIL and my bow-wow buddy Benny. I'll be back with a new post around June 22 and hope to see you then!
IMY2 is a pretty good band! My daughter is heading to Nashville to be in the music industry. I wonder if she'll run into them.
ReplyDeleteHi, Sherry!
DeleteWelcome back to Shady's Place, dear friend! I'm excited to learn that your daughter plans to join the music industry in Nashville aka "Music City." I know her mother's exceptional musical talent and notable achievements in the field are an inspiration to her. I'm pleased that you are the first friend to single out one of my favorite bands, the versatile Nashville-based IMY2, and their original song and unique video depicting an act of the 1960s performing on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Thank you for your kind visit and comment, dear friend Sherry!
Man, even though I suspect he's lip syncing, that Deen Castronovo really gets into that song. Some wild facial expressions there.
ReplyDeleteI associate Jimi Hendrex so much with psychodelia, and hence psychedelic colors, that seeing him play his guitar in grainy old black-and-white film is a bit odd. Not that it hurts the song any.
Will Jordan pretty much made a whole career out of imitating a single man, Ed Sullivan. Among other things, he's in "William" Joel's early 1980s video "Tell Her About It".
Hi, Kirk!
DeleteThanks for making good on your promise to swing by Shady's Place on your holiday Monday, good buddy!
I also thank you for your observations about Deen Castronovo, an artist no one else has mentioned, and regarding the Hendrix film, and for adding an interesting trivia tidbit to the discussion of the video by the exciting Annalise Mahanes and her band IMY2.
That cover of "Love Gun" is raw but cool, with Dean singing as he drives his car down the streets of Buffalo.
I've been a fan of The Jimi Hendrix Experience ever since they exploded on the scene in the 60s, but it was only recently that I found and watched that grainy B&W studio audio sync edit film to video production of the trio doing their Mary song.
I well remember Will Jordan's spot-on imitations of Ed Sullivan. The video you mentioned, "Tell Her About It," was heavily requested and frequently played on the MTV station where I worked in the 80s and 90s. Here's the link to that original Billy Joel music video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0pM5dm--yQ
Thanks again for coming over on the holiday weekend and for adding great stuff to the conversation, good buddy Kirk. See you next month!
Am I too late Shady? Holy cow, I'm so behind in posting and reading posts. This one was sure jammed pack with jams and those doc shows. I will confess I never watch medical shows...even the scary ones...anymore. I'm so critical of all the stuff that's not really true and then when I watch all the drama it makes me tired because it reminds me of work in my younger days. I know I'm still working but doing scopes is much quieter and not much drama! I did know some of the songs this time! And the guy that did the cover of Robert Palmers hit sure didn't look like a rocker! But truthfully, either did Robert Palmer! Well, I hope you had a wonderful Memorial day and were able to welcome some warmer weather. We've had some chilly days and nights here but I know the hot and humid will come so no complaining! Again, I hope I'm not too late friend and all is well with you and Mrs. Shady! Take care!
ReplyDeleteHi, YaYa!
DeleteI and excited and relieved to see you, dear friend! When you failed to publish a holiday post on Sunday night or Monday night as I was expecting, I started to worry that something was amiss. I know you keep busy up there, and I am happy to bend my three-day blogging rule so that I can reply to your comment and visit Whispering Pines. I didn't see your new post until bedtime and was too tired to compose a worthy comment last night, so I hit the hay and got up early. I'll be over to see you there shortly.
Thanks for explaining why you no longer watch medical shows. Your comment made me curious about the medical accuracy of various series over the years, because Mrs. Shady and I loved ER and thought it depicted patient treatment protocols more accurately than most. I asked the Bing AI Copilot for help and, to my surprise, it reported that ER is not necessarily the most accurate medical drama of all time, even though it has been praised for its realism. It mentioned another series we recently watched and thoroughly enjoyed - Code Black - along with House M.D. as two series recognized for their medical accuracy. Three other series, St. Elsewhere, The Good Doctor and New Amsterdam, also score high on the accuracy scale, according to the Copilot. I also understand why the drama and conflict between coworkers could tire you out and trigger unpleasant memories of your own work experiences earlier in your career as a healthcare professional.
Yessum, we had a good holiday weekend but, as I mentioned to friend Janet (above) I am mourning the death of my wonderful cousin Betsy who was stricken with the dreadful disease ALS and died Friday at the too young age of 71.
Today we are welcoming more rain in our vicinity. It is arriving just in time to water three new shrubs Mrs. Shady and I planted in our garden beds yesterday.
Thank you again for your kind visit and comment, dear friend YaYa. Look for my return to blogging June 22. Till then, take care of yourself and my sweetie-pie Annabelle!
It's been awhile, Shady! Man, it's been such a busy spring. I took my first final in about 16 years a few weeks ago, finishing up a course to add a gifted seal to my teaching certification. Thankfully, that was the last course on my have-to-take list, so I'll be homework free for the next year at least. I'm definitely looking forward to being able to just teach.
ReplyDeleteI added the IMY2 and Iyeoka songs to my playlist. Thanks for the finds!
I hope you enjoy your summer, Shady! I plan on doing as little as possible for the next two months ;)
Hi, Ashton!
DeleteIt's wonderful to see you again, dear old friend! Thanks for taking a peek at my Spin Doctors post featuring assisted suicide specialist Dr. Mary Harris of Mary Kills People and various other TV doctors spinning records that have to do with medical matters and songs that have Mary in the title.
As you know, I have followed you since you left college. I admire you and continue to be impressed by all you have accomplished in the years since. You have earned a restful summer vacay!
I'm delighted that you enjoyed the songs by IMY2 and Iyeoka and added them to your earworm playlist. If you visit the IMY2 Y/T channel you will find many excellent covers along with some fine original songs by Annalise and her trio.
Thank you again for coming over to spread cheer, dear friend Ashton. I wish you an enjoyable summer as well. Take care of yourself and your family until we get together next time!
Shady! Sorry for not visiting for a while. I moved! You know how that is. I'm glad I'm here again. Are these series gonna traumatize me too? Lol! I'm still affected by that Wilderness one.
ReplyDeleteHi, Lux!
DeleteI'm excited to see you, dear friend! Hope the move went well and you are happily getting settled in your new location.
Yessum, several Shady's Place series are designed to traumatize you, the reader/listener. :) Wilderness was a one-off rather than a series and won't be repeated. I consider it a compliment that you still remember it, even though the memories are somewhat disturbing. :)
Thank you very much for your kind visit and comment, dear friend Lux. I'll be over to see you shortly and will return with my next post on the 22nd of this month. Alert! - You might find parts of it traumatizing. :)
I enjoyed that song "Sweet Mary" :D
