into the fight against evil on the comedy horror television series
Ash vs Evil Dead... (not to be confused with Romper Room).
You've heard of tough love. With Ash, it's chainsaw love.
I've learned that when dealing with the undead it's
best to follow Ash's golden rule - shoot first

Good day (or maybe not), my name is Sarah and my last name is a mystery.
I'm the star of the 2019 horror movie 1BR, the story of an aspiring costume
designer who moves into a one-bedroom apartment in LA, unaware that the
complex is owned by a cult that uses torture to force new residents to join

I'm there, dude! I hope you'll join me on the new Shady's Place radio

Hi there, I'm Alice! That's me, bound and  gagged above, in a scene from
the 2019 horror movie The Cleaning Lady. I'm a young woman who made
two big mistakes. One was having a fling with a married man. The other
was hiring a creepy cleaning lady whose face is scarred from severe burns.
Seems the cleaning lady has taken a shine to me. (See what I did there?)
She's become obsessed with me - a new best friend from hell. She wears
my clothes and makeup, and basically wants to trade lives with me.

BLOOD BATH & BEYOND
All hell breaks loose. Blood is spilled. Yep, it's hard to find good help these days.
Let's put it this way - Norman Bates was safer to be around than this psycho!
Before I get chloroformed in my sleep again and forget, be sure to tune in
for the debut of my S-P-M-M radio show Thru the Spooking Glass...
starting soon exclusively here at Shady's Place Music & Memories!

LILIAC
MEGADETH

Alice here, in case you didn't recognize
me without the gag. It's time for me to
introduce the next two Gorgeous Ladies
of WOW! You met these Transylvanian
transplants in part one.  Today they're
back in black and ready to, in their
own words, "rock on and rock hard."
 They're the LA-based family band
Liliac featuring not one but two
G.L.O.W. nominees - lead zinger
Melody Cristea, and sister Abigail
who plays and slays on the drum kit.
The band performs their version of
a song covered in part one by UK
guitarist Sophie Burrell. Here are

  1. Tom,

WoW, excellent sequel in your G.L.O.W. series! You packed a number of great hard rock covers. The one that strikes me as the most impressive is the opening feature, "I Was Made For Loving You". You gave me another band to check out on YT. Thanks for putting the groove in my move this Tuesday morning. Now, I'm off sweep away some ghosts and push the skeletons back in the closet.

    1. Hi, Cathy!

Congratulations on being the Early Bird this week, dear friend! I'm happy that you could make it over for Pt. 2 of my Spooktacular.

I'm glad you gave thumbs up to the opening act, First to Eleven, an Erie, PA, band fronted by Audra Miller. I was blown away a year ago at this time when they uploaded this Kiss cover on their channel. If you investigate, you will find that this type of song is atypical for First to Eleven aka F211. Mostly they cover 21st century indie pop and alternative rock bands. So, this one was a real treat for me, and I'm delighted that you singled it out as a favorite.

Thanks again for coming here early on day one and for your cheery comment, dear friend Cathy. Have a wonderful week!

    2. Hey Tom,

I apologize for not doing a return visit yesterday. My brain is a bit scattered these days as I try to wind up things all around me before our staycation kicks off. I'm happy that I finally made it over today as it reminded me that I need to sample more of First to Eleven's music. I'm at YT listening to 'I Was Made for Lovin' You" again, while I type this comment. Excellent cover! They have an impressive number of albums listed, so I'm going to start with the first one and work my way from there. You mentioned they cover mostly indie and alternative rock. Their featured song cover on their YT channel at the moment is "Sweet Child O' Mine" by GNR and they did a nice job on it. Thanks for checking out today's TAD illustration, dear friend. You're the best! Well, gotta jet. No rest for the weary. Have a terrific Thursday afternoon!

    3. Hi, Cathy!

It's nice to see you again, dear friend! Thanks for making a return visit to check out Part 2 of my H-ween Rocktoberfest.

Yessum, F211 does a fine job of covering "Sweet Child O' Mine." That open-air street concert performance took place quite some time ago when lead singer Audra was young and just starting to catch on as a YouTube star.

Hey, apparently you didn't recognize the burlesque dancer who introduced the final act of the day, S & Z's cover of "Ghostbusters." It's Madison Davenport, the talented young woman who co-starred as Kate Fuller on From Dusk till Dawn: The Series. Take it from me. Madison was fun to watch in the role of "Meredith" on the equally edgy TV series Reprisal, and is now set to become a regular presenter at Shady's Place on the SPMM radio show "M Squad." Stay tuned!

I also hope you noticed drummer girl Anna Elise pounding on a drum covered with an actual birthday cake with burning candles as she played along to M.I.W.'s "Necessary Evil," a song that makes reference to Lesley Gore's signature song and first big hit "It's My Party." I never saw anything like that before. What a hoot!

Thanks again for swinging over, dear friend Cathy. I'll see you on Saturday!

Some of these covers aren't bad. I love Kiss, always have. They really rock a live show.

    1. Hi, Mary!

Thanks for attending Pt. 2 of my Rocktoberfest series, dear friend!

Yessum, you and I discussed a while back that it's a shame Prodigal Son got the ax (perhaps the same one Kelly Maxwell is wielding in these pics). Frankly, I don't think they did enough with Halston Sage's character Ainsley Whitley, and they also wasted the talents of actress Aurora Perrineau, the female detective who warms to Malcolm and seems on the verge of becoming his girlfriend when the series ends. Turns out Aurora is a fine actress, full of energy and humor. I just watched her in the Hulu horror anthology entitled In The Dark. She's great fun to watch in the feature length segment "The Body," and she is also in another chapter of the series called "All That We Destroy" which I have yet to see. Malcolm's mom, played by Bellamy Young, showed up in the pilot episode of the this season's TV remake of Fantasy Island.

I'm glad you enjoyed the two Kiss songs in Pt. 2. When I worked in TV entertainment production, I met Kiss backstage in their dressing room in early January, 1986, at a Tampa Bay venue before their show, and my veejay and camera crew interviewed drummer Eric Carr. We stayed for their show. The opening act was W.A.S.P.

Thanks again for dropping by and enjoying the rock & metal concert, dear friend Mary. Give my buddy Falcor a hug and enjoy the rest of your week!

  3. Hi Shady,

I'm still a little sore from my COVID booster, so I can't rock out too hard tonight. However, these kick ass covers put pep in my sore steps and I liked bopping my head. Such talent.

I'm hoping the pain and swelling at the injection site will subside by tomorrow, so I can write out a longer reply.

    Take care, dear friend.

    1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

I'm pleased to see you, dear friend, but sad you're having a reaction to the booster shot. I didn't suffer any such FX when I got mine.

I'm delighted that you dig these rock & metal covers. As in Part 1, you are treated to some of the greatest performances of the 2020s, in my opinion. There are highlights galore. You have the very young PA-based F211 band doing a Kiss cover in full make-up, the Liliac kids turning in another awesome metal cover and making the Megadeth song their own, plus artists in Russia, Ukraine, Netherlands and the UK kicking all kinds of butt. Perhaps the killer of them all is drummer girl ANNA playing the M.I.W. hit with an actual birthday cake and lit candles placed atop her drum - a mind-blowing sight! Daria Z. is rapidly becoming a world renowned rock goddess, and her version of Ghostbusters surpasses the Ray Parker original. I hope you will return and delve into the nuances of these performances when time permits. Also, I highly recommend all of these horror films and TV series. They're a hoot.

That's AOK about the shorter reply. If you are having a reaction to the booster, it stands to reason that you aren't feeling up to a long listening and writing session at this time. I appreciate your patronage and hope you will return soon. Get some rest, dear friend JM, and thanks again for your visit tonight!

    1. Hi, Cheryl-Lee!

I'm excited to see you, dear friend! Yessum, I loaded this two-part series with the Gorgeous Ladies of WOW! - female singers and musicians around the world performing excellent covers of some of the great rock and metal anthems of the 20th century. I added a bunch of fun-scary horror movie and horror TV series artwork and introduced some of the female characters that appear in them as Shady Bunch deejays in training. As an added bonus, I turned Shady's Place into a ghost town. :) Can you hear the echo when we speak? :)

The Cleaning Lady is a hoot, that's what she is - Blood Bath & Beyond! :) 1BR is also a very clever and well produced psycho thriller.

I am also happy that you gave a nod to UK musician Sophie B's AC/DC guitar cover.

Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend Cheryl-Lee, and enjoy the rest of your week!

  5. Hello Mr. Shady! I have been laying low but I am doing ok. I am home and resting as I have some pain which will last for a bit. I finally feel a bit up to reading some blogs and listening to the music. This music is not my style which is no big surprise but I do appreciate the talent. I have to say I always loved Bruce Campbell. The gal doing the Megadeath seems no looks so innocent that I didn’t expect the devil voice out of her...hahahaa. The Ghostbusters is a different take but original and the guys on the guitar are excellent. Speaking of the guitar..those gals who play the guitar have a great appreciation for music and can really rock it! They are excellent. I hope you are keeping well.

    1. Hi, Birgit!

I am overjoyed and elated to finally hear from you and to know that you are home from the horse pistol and resting, dear friend! I am reminded of this: << Roger, Tranquility. We copy you on the ground. You got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. We're breathing again. >>

Thank you for making time during your post-op recovery to visit Shady's Place. I didn't think this style of music was your cup of tea. Thank you for putting a positive spin on your comments.

Yessum, Bruce Campbell is best known for playing Ash Williams in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead franchise which started in 1978 with the prequel film Within The Woods. Bruce is a hoot in Ash vs Evil Dead, the Starz TV series referenced in this post, although Dana DeLorenzo's Kelly Maxwell character is my favorite on the show.

Yessum, Melody Cristea's vocals channel the late Ronnie James Dio and other power-voiced male metal icons. I can hardly believe such a sweet and rather nerdy young woman is capable of performing in that demonstrative manner.

Daria Z is a global sensation on YouTube. Along with her guitar partner Sergei Sershen, the Ukrainian beauty is covering 20th century classic rock and pop and making it seem like the songs were written with her in mind. I'm sold on her. I smile and shed tears of joy watching the two Dutch girls shredding their guitar solos as they capably cover Poison, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue and other notable rock acts of the 1980s, decades before they were born. Thank goodness there are young people like these who are keeping our 20th century music alive.

Thank you again for mustering the strength to visit and comment. Please continue to take good care of yourself. If you are posting tamale, I'll be over to see you. Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend BB!

    1. Hi, Alex!

Thanks for making it over to the clubhouse-turned-spookhouse, good buddy!

I'm glad you singled out the dynamic S & Z duo from Ukraine as they performed a delightfully different version of "Ghostbusters." Truth be told, I never liked Ray Parker's original all that much, and so just about anything would have been an improvement. S & Z knocked their cover completely out of the park.

I am also pleased that you reacted favorably to the Liliac siblings' cover of "Symphony Of Destruction." Those Cristea kids keep cranking out new classic versions of vintage rock & metal anthems.

To continue the thread we started on your site, I predict the Ghost Nadja doll will soon be licensed for manufacture and that it will become as big as Cabbage Patch dolls and Tickle Me Elmos. Mark my words. People will be fighting over dwindling supplies of Nadja mini-me's in stores at Christmas. I also think all merch related to What We Do In The Shadows, a series that is a big hit and still trending, will sell like hotcakes.

Thanks again for dropping by, good buddy Alex!

  7. Hi Shady! Lots of talent and lots of heavy metal covers. The Ghost Busters was good and creepy! (Well, at least some were wearing masks!) The horror flicks were new to me and like the apartment gal, if the cleaning lady does windows she can have my wardrobe...if she likes the country bumpkin old lady look! This month is flying by and I don't just mean on a broom stick. So thanks for keeping the Halloween spirit alive here and I hope you have a good rest of your week!

    1. Hi, YaYa!

I'm thrilled to see you, dear friend! Thanks for returning for another heaping helping of thrills and chills in Rocktoberfest Pt. 2.

I would say this second installment of the series contains more melodic, pop-oriented songs than Part 1. The opening number by Kiss is a mainstream disco-style rock song that rode high on the pop chart in 1979. The second Kiss song is also on the lighter side of the rock spectrum, and is actually a rather wholesome song about a faithful, monogamous couple who are determined to keep their relationship interesting by doing some role playing. The Poison song is another pop-metal confection, and the closing song the "Ghostbusters" cover, is very mild and mainstream as well. The true hard rock and metal offerings in Pt. 2 are the songs by Megadeth, Motionless in White and AC/DC.

Yessum, represented here are some of the greatest cover performances of the 2020s, in my opinion. The YouTube channel of rock & metal queen Daria Z. and her guitar partner Sergei S. has a large, devoted and enthusiastic worldwide fan base. I will be bringing you more of their amazing covers as time goes by.

The movies and TV series referenced in Part 2 are a hoot. Both 1br ("One Bedroom") and The Cleaning Lady show us what happens when renting a unit goes terribly wrong. I enjoyed them and watched them the same week that I saw Look Away, the movie featured in Pt.1.

I'm glad you enjoyed these Halloween sight and sound treats. Stick around for more holiday fun when Wolfman Jack drops in to entertain you in my next post on Sunday. Until than have a safe and happy week, dear friend YaYa!

  8. Well, my favorite this time is "Ghostbusters", in large part because it's a reinterpretation rather than a slavish remake. That a dance song (along with what I've read is the bassline to Huey and the News "I Want a New Drug") can be turned into Goth Metal I think is proof is that these genres aren't as far apart as they may seem, one reason I favor an expansive view as possible as to what can be considered "rock music" (but I don't want to get into that argument again.)

Not that I'm totally immune to slavish imitation. That's quite a bravura performance the Liliac lead singer gives. I just now watched the Megadeth original, and their lead singer Dave Mustaine sounds almost low-key by comparison.

Finally, on "Necessary Evil" (which has its own reinterpretation of Leslie Gore) I like the birthday cake instead of the drum. Funny how it has no effect on the beat.

    1. Hi, Kirk!

Thanks for dropping by and leaving a two-part comment to help the cause, good buddy. By golly, I'm gonna get to 100 comments yet! :)

I'm pleased that you enjoyed the showender song/video "Ghostbusters" as interpreted by S & Z. Daria is one of the boldest, baddest rock queens in the world today. She covers a variety of genres. Unlike F211, Halocene and other notable YouTube cover bands I have been showcasing, Daria and her band choose to cover more 20th century material than 21st, giving Shady many great videos to post. Daria has a knack of making other artists' songs her own. Thanks for reminding readers that the song "Ghostbusters" is basically "I Want A New Drug" with different lyrics.

I am also excited that you are impressed with Melody Cristea's lead vocals on "Symphony." I have no idea how those guttural sounds come out of that girl's mouth, but I think a pea soup alert is in order.

Doesn't Anna Elise take the cake? Doesn't she, though? Answer me! I'm glad somebody other than I brought up her uncanny performance - beating on a drum covered in an actual birthday cake with burning candles. Now I can truly say that I have seen it all. As I'm sure you noticed, bits of cake went flying all over her drum kit, making a tremendous mess for her or someone else to clean up at the end of the video shoot. I love when an artist sacrifices to that extent in the name of art. It brings to mind Hendrix setting his guitar on fire during performances, and Pete Townshend of The Who smashing his guitars against the stage floor. I'd like to think no birthday cakes were harmed in the making of ANNA's vid, but I think what we are seeing there is real... so very REAL!

  10. Just so there's no misunderstanding, my comment about "I don't want to argue that again" has nothing to do with any point you're trying to make, but rather these complaints that arise when someone who's been categorized as "pop" but categorized as such well into the rock era is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame--Madonna, Donna Summers, and Janet Jackson all come to mind. Their music simply would not exist if there hadn't first been rock. Ray Parker Jr will probably never be inducted because he simply hasn't had the staying power as those acts, but if by some chance he is, the fact that Sershen
& Zaritskaya managed to rock out with one of his songs would be good enough reason for me to let him in.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I totally agree that the induction committee bends the rules quite a bit and allows big name pop and disco artists into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame while at the same time excluding more deserving candidates. As you might recall, I and millions of other fans are outraged that one of the giants of the genre, the prolific singer and songwriter Neil Sedaka, continues to be snubbed year after year in spite of his many contributions.

Cleveland Rocks... and we need to preserve that legacy... not water it down.

Thanks again for staying up very late and leaving not one, but two great comments plus a removed comment to run up my total. Enjoy the rest of your week, good buddy Kirk!

    2. I don't have a problem with letting Neil Sedaka into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Since he wrote "Love Will Keep Us Together", you can let The Captain and Tenielle in, too.

    3. Hi, Kirk!

Good point! If the Material Girl and the Queen of Disco can get the green light for the Hall O Fame, then so should Captain & Tenille. (I'm also circulating a petition to get Disco Tex And His Sex-O-Lettes inducted.)

I also want to thank you for bringing up the heavy "sampling," if you will, of Lesley Gore's signature song and first major hit "It's My Potty" in that ANNA drum cover. Did I mention that it's a HOOT?

Enjoy your day, good buddy Kirk. I hope to see you Sunday or in the coming week when Wolfman Jack makes a return visit to Shady's Place. Take care!

  12. Hi Shady! I'm back for another session, and it shows that I am back in business. Can't say what happened, but it knocked me off the other day.

These ladies of WOW are truly gorgeous, and talented. The Kiss cover by First to Eleven is so good! I like Kiss, but don't know all of their hits-a thumbs up for this one! And, I love the guitar cover of Kiss' "Let's Put The X In Sex"! This was impressive...she's good!

I got a kick out of Anna's drum cover of "Necessary Evil" or "It's My Party". She did a great job of making a great mess! Glad I didn't have to clean it up!
Sonia & Esmee are a couple of fun and great guitarists! I am so jealous that I can't play anything on a guitar save a few chords! Poison is a cool group, and the two girls are tops in their cover of "Talk Dirty to Me".

I know who Megadeth is, but not their music. I must say, Liliac and their cool video of "Symphony of Destruction" cover totally rocks!

I always try to pick a favorite, Shady, but lately I find two favs on your posts. "Shoot To Thrill" is one favorite, because this girl, Sophie, is just too good! She appears to be so confident, along with being talented. She then takes time to discuss the guitar she played the AC/DC song with. A fairly new guitar, she said, with a few ups and downs! Well, it blew me away!

Then, the ultimate Ray Parker's "Ghostbusters" comes along and wraps up a very fun post! This is a classic song, not serious, but great because of the artist, the beat, lyrics, and the movie. The cover by Sergey and Daria brings a very cool upgrade from the original version of this song.

Thanks, Shady! I really like this one, and I hope to be on time, whenever I can. Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend!

    1. Hi, Suzanne!

Sorry I'm so late replying. Wouldn't you know it, Mrs. Shady roped me into household chores all day today, and I just now spotted your comment.

I'm thrilled to see you back here, dear friend! Thanks for persevering until you were able to get a comment published. I'm glad we didn't need to rely on the email method, but please remember that I am always standing by if you need to do it that way.

I'm excited to learn that you enjoyed WOW Part 2. I wish you would have seen the look on my face the first time I watched Audra Miller and her Erie, PA, band performing that Kiss cover. I was filled with glee. Their band is called First To Eleven, named after a playground game that is popular in that part of the state. It is rare for F211 to cover material from that far back in time. Mostly they stick to covers of 21st century artists and songs. That made their version of the Kiss band's 1979 disco-rock hit all the more enjoyable. Along with the original Kiss video produced for "I Was Made For Loving You," the official video for "Let's Put The X" was a popular play on the MTV style station where I worked at the time. I'm happy that you agree the young Russian guitarist does a fine job playing along to the song.

Yessum, ANNA made quite a mess of her drum kit for the sake of art. I have never seen anything quite like her bizarre performance and I applaud her. It's cool to realize that Chris Motionless was influenced by Lesley Gore and inspired to make reference to her sig song "It's My Party" in his gothic metal hit "Necessary Evil."

I am also pleased that you gave thumbs up to the guitar girls from The Netherlands. As I have mentioned before, Poison was a rock band from my general region of Pennsylvania, and the guys were frequent visitors to the studio of my TV station in Florida. Typical of rock and metal bands of the period, the Poison boys did so much clowning around while our veejay was interviewing them that very little actual info was shared. It was mostly silliness.

Thanks for giving props to the Cristea siblings, members of the metal band Liliac, and their fine cover of "Symphony." Theirs is another standout video performance of the 2020s.

Yessum, isn't UK guitarist Sophie B fun to watch? She keeps a confident smile on her face throughout her AC/DC cover and makes the performance seem effortless. She's just wonderful. I'm glad you agree. I'm impressed that you watched beyond the song and listened to Sophie's review of the guitar. She does that in several of her videos.

I am also delighted that you recognize the greatness of the dynamic duo from Ukraine, S & Z. Daria and Sergei are genuine YouTube stars, and they often collaborate with other artists around the world including some that I have showcased here at Shady's Place such as Halocene and First To Eleven. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed their fun-filled take on "Ghostbusters."

Thanks again for catching Part 2 of my Rocktoberfest series, dear friend Suzanne. I hope you and Scootie are in good health and in good spirits today. Stay tuned, because the page turns tomorrow morning and the musical menu shifts from metal to old school rock & roll as Wolfman Jack takes his place at the mic. Have a great Saturday and I hope to see you back here for Wolfman's show in the coming days. God bless, Suzanne!
