Breaking Bald: Homeboy Jesse Pinkman Returns to Shady's Place to Play Six Degrees of Jimmy Durante!

IT'S TIME TO PLAY
SIX DEGREES OF

JIMMY DURANTE

YO - BITE ME, BITCH!

I'm Jesse Pinkman. That's just my way
of saying hello and welcoming you
to a friendly game of Six Degrees.

In only six steps I can link Krysten Ritter (above), one of the hottest
and hippest young actresses in the business today, to Jimmy Durante,
the comedic actor of the early and mid 20th century. Don't think
I can do it? I got 50 large that says I can. Wanna bet, yo?

STEP 1

On my series Breaking Bad, Krysten Ritter plays my girlfriend Jane Margolis.

Krysten also stars in her own series Marvel's Jessica Jones (below).

STEP 2

Mike Colter stars as superhero Luke Cage on
Krysten Ritter's series Jessica Jones.

Colter also had the recurring role of wealthy drug dealer
Lemond Bishop on The Good Wife.

STEP 3

Christine Baranski had a main role on The Good Wife
playing law firm senior partner Diane Lockhart.

Christine played Cybill Shepherd's best friend
Maryanne Thorpe on the television sitcom Cybill.

STEP 4

Cybill Shepherd had the prominent role of
Jacy Farrow in the film The Last Picture Show.

Ben Johnson played Sam the Lion in the
Cybill Shepherd movie The Last Picture Show.

STEP 5

Ben Johnson co-starred as Gregg opposite
Terry Moore in Mighty Joe Young.

In that 1949 film Terry Moore played Jill Young,
a sweet country girl with a giant ape as a pet.

STEP 6

Terry Moore co-starred as Rosalinda Amendola
in The Great Rupert starring Jimmy Durante.

In that 1950 comedy film the animal hero,
Rupert, was an animated squirrel.

IN YOUR FACE, YO!

I DID IT - PAY UP!

Before I go, Shady Del Knight says he wants
to play a song for me. Okay, do it, Mr. Knight.

"Jessie's Girl" - Rick Springfield
cover by John S. Kihm

HEY, DON'T EVEN GO THERE, BRO!

ARE YA FEELIN' ME?

 HAPPY APRIL FOOLS' DAY!

  1. Thanks for the laugh! On the news this morning they said there would probably be no April fool's jokes today. But you brought hope back that we haven't lost our sense of humor! Plus a fun song! I'm checking folks coming into one of our out patient facilities today. I was so tempted to tell them they had a 105 fever...but I don't think it would have gone over to well! So happy April fool's day! Take care and stay safe!

    1. Hi, YaYa!

Thanks for coming over promptly to claim the early bird award, dear friend!

Yessum, I've had this April Fools' post "in the can" for many months now, probably a year or more. Even though the news headlines are grim and getting scarier by the hour, my philosophy is "the show must go on." It is beneficial for us to break the tension and smile and laugh. I'm glad you got a chuckle from Jesse's "Breaking Bald" post and enjoyed the guitar cover of Rick Springfield's rock classic "Jessie's Girl."

I hope you always wear your mask as you check those people for fever. Please stay safe and well, dear friend YaYa, and thanks again for joining the fun!

  2. Ahh yes..I knew you could connect the dots. I don't watch those shows with that young girl but you connected things well. The cover was quite funny and we need that now...why not? Do you recall the pandemic of 1968> I think it was called the Hong Kong Flu where over a million people died. I don't recall my parents talking about this ever. I was too young when this came out.

    1. Hi, Birgit!

Thanks for coming down during this hectic and upsetting week, dear friend! I'm happy you saw the benefit in consuming a dose of Shady's elixir - a heaping helping of fun - as Breaking Bad's bad boy Jesse Pinkman plays Six Degrees of Jimmy Durante on April Fools' Day.

I figured you would be familiar with the older movies and TV series in the game. I have seen all of them with the exception of the film in the last step, The Great Rupert. I saw Mighty Joe Young on TV when I was age 5 or 6 and I liked it as much as King Kong. I'm delighted you enjoyed the guitar cover that fanned the flames of jealousy in Jesse P.

I remember the Hong Kong Flu, but do not remember anything about it. I suppose nobody I knew was affected by it. The coronavirus is an increasingly menacing plague. My state is scrambling to get up to speed with a month-long stay at home order finally issued by the governor today.

Please take good care of yourself and your hubby up there, dear friend BB, and thanks again for dropping in for some smiles at Shady's Place!

    1. Hi, Alex!

Thanks for stopping in, good buddy!

To tell you the truth, this string of connections came to me rather quickly. I surprised myself, and it was lots of fun putting the post together. I'm glad I finished the draft more than a year ago before the virus started weighing on my mind or it might never have come together.

Thanks for the visit and the compliment, good buddy Alex. Stay well and enjoy the rest of your week!

  4. Tom, my friend, I'm sorry for hopping by so late today. The COVID-19 outbreak mostly has me scurrying around to get things in order here at the house for DH to work from home. Our place is limited on space, so I had to move the world around to fit his office computer, etc in a place and then this week was spend mostly researching a new printer that was needed. Okay...all is good I think but now I'm really going to have to dig my heels in to get things going. I'm just going to chillax and not sweat it. As you said, it is what it is. :) I appreciated the fun content and excellent upbeat song "Jessie's Girl" which I really needed to get my groovy into gear this afternoon. Thanks for stopping by to reveal my first A2Z pinup girl sketch for the month as well voting in my latest BoTB. Take care and be well, my friend! Blessings to you!!

    1. Hi, Cathy!

Welcome welcome welcome, dear friend! No need to apologize. Arriving here on day one of a post's run is not what I would call late. I know you were up to your ears in alligators today with the A to Z Challenge, Battle of the Bands day and April Fools' Day posts filling the blog circuit.

I know DH appreciates your efforts to scramble and prepare a work at home space for him. I applaud you! I hope it keeps you both safe from the dreaded virus.

Isn't that guy's guitar cover excellent? I am very impressed. I'm glad you got a kick out of this game of Six Degrees played by Jesse Pinkman. I will let the kitty out of the bag and let you know that you haven't seen the last of actress Krysten Ritter at Shady's Place. Stay tuned!

Enjoy the rest of your day and I'll report for duty early in the morning to gaze at your letter "B" pinup sketch. Thanks again, dear friend Cathy!

    2. Good day, Tom! Thanks for understanding my slow response. I'm feeling a bit relax today after a week of rush, rush. We got the printer delivered yesterday and set up. The only thing is Staples didn't send the correct size paper, so I had to get on the phone with them this morning. I'm happy to report, the respresentative took good care of me and put in a new order at no cost to me for the right paper. As a bonus I was told to keep the paper received. :) Yep the guitarist is amazing. I'll look for future posts featuring Krysten Ritter. Thanks for the letting the kitty out of the bag. Well...I'm a day late on my A2Zing and I imagine that's the way it'll be the rest of the month but I'm not going to pull my hair out. I'm in it to have fun! I was glad to see your early visit this morning. Have a good weekend and keep yourself well now, my friend!

    3. Hi, Cathy!

Thanks for the cheery message, dear friend! It was very nice of Staples to correct their mistake AND tell you to keep the other paper as a bonus. That's the way to do business!

A month ago, as you recall, I apologized in advance if I needed to miss some of your A to Z posts because we had two eye surgeries scheduled during the month of April plus several follow-up doctor appointments. With the viral crisis acting as a game changer, those procedures have been postponed indefinitely. Although I am following three friends who are doing the A to Z this year, I hope to be able to read and comment on all of your entries, providing I stay healthy. That isn't a certainty by any means because the virus is blowing up in Florida.

Thanks again for coming to chat, dear friend Cathy, and stay well up there in Tennessee!

    4. Tom,

I hear you on doctor appointments/procedures being canceled. I finally got in to see the neurologist who wants me to have an MRI on my neck but that probably won't happen to sometime in May at the earliest I would say. I had a couple of appointments at the end of March and mid-April but those got moved. I'm beating money that they'll get moved again before the month ends. Meanwhile, I'm trying to not aggravate my spine-related issues. I'm not sure how accurate the Wiki stats are that I found but it show the virus recovery in Tennessee is quite a bit better than that of Florida. We've only had 44 to die. I just noticed the national total exceeds 10k now. WOW, I didn't realize it was that high already! Whatever you do, stay well. Sending hugs & prayers to you and Mrs. S! Thanks for stopping by this morning with your coffee for a little visit. Be blessed, dear friend!

    5. Thank you, thank you, thank you, dear Cathy!

Just about everything's on hold and we're taking things one day at a time. It's all we can do. All three of us down here need to get those eye procedures done a.s.a.p., and I know that you and DH also need medical attention from time to time. It is a difficult adjustment to make when our normal daily lives comes to a screeching halt. Hang in there with me and please stay out of harm's way.

Thanks again for coming to chat. I'll see you tomorrow, dear friend Cathy!

  5. Hey Jesse! Happy April Fools Day to you! What a cool post. I haven't seen any of the shows you featured, except for one, but I know some of the actors. We watched the Jimmy Durante growing up, and he was a classic.

"The Last Picture Show" is one of the best films! I didn't even see it until around 2013 or 2014. Karo and I actually drove to Archer City, Texas to see the sights of the movie. We saw the movie theatre, and the museum. There is a book store with many of the author's books. This is a very small town, and we had the best burgers and fries EVER at a cafe there.

SO, Jesse, I'm so glad Shady played a classic song for you in recognition of your great post! And, if this was a cover...HE NAILED IT! Great guitar playing! Take care you'se guys!

Happy April Fools Day, Shady, dear friend! ♫

    1. Hi, Suzanne!

Thanks for dropping in on April Fools' Day, dear friend! How's master Scootie doing? I hope you are both feeling well and in good spirits.

Wow, it's a revelation that you only saw one of the shows featured in Jesse Pinkman's game of Six Degrees. I have seen all but the last one. It must have been exciting for you and Karo to go to the town where they shot The Last Picture Show. I saw the movie when it was first released and a few times since. It is one of my favorites, too. You should try to catch "Sam the Lion" in Mighty Joe Young. It's exciting as King Kong.

Yessum, the guitarist, John S. Kihm, played over the original studio recording of "Jessie's Girl," adding a layer of sound that I think enhances the piece. It's a great cover performance.

Thanks again for joining the fun. dear friend Suzanne. I pray that you and your loved ones will stay home and keep safe as this viral crisis continues to unfold. Take care and I'll see you a few days from now when I publish my next post!

Thanks for coming to see me here at Shady's Place as I salivate April Fools' Day! :)

Yessum, by controlling the urge to place a wager with Jesse Pinkman, you saved yourself 50 large. :) I'm delighted that you enjoyed the game that took us from Krysten Ritter to Jimmy Durante in only six steps.

Thanks again for coming by, dear friend Cheryl-Lee. Stay safe out there in California as we plod day by day through the biggest challenge our country has faced in a long time. Bless you, dear friend!

    1. Hi, Kelly!

I'm tickled to see you, dear friend. Thanks for coming over! I've been playing games of Six Degrees on my blogs for the last ten years. They're lots of fun. This particular string came together in a hurry and I was glad my mind made the connections w/o much difficulty. It must be the same feeling you get when you are working a jigsaw puzzle and the pieces all fit together in record time. I have seen all of the TV series and films represented here except for Rupert and I can recommend them all.

Keep safe and well and thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend Kelly!

He didn't want you interfering as he went after his catnip. I'm hitching a ride to Alberta right now so that I can taste that yummy looking dish on the stove. :)

    1. Hi, Gayle!

Thanks for popping over, dear friend. Happy A.F.D. to you and your lovable menagerie as well!

Would you believe Jimmy Durante has been dead and gone more than 40 years? Like you I watched The Jimmy Durante Show in the mid 50s. My favorite memory of Jimmy was in the role of "Smiler" Grogan, the old guy who "kicked the bucket" in the star-studded 1963 comedy film It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. If you never saw the zany movie I highly recommend it.

Florida is one of the worst hit states. Many snowbirds are leaving early and traveling back home to New England, the mid-Atlantic states, Michigan and Canada. It's a tense situation. Thanks for the well wishes. I offer the same wishes for health and security to you and your wonderful animals, dear friend Gayle. Thanks again for coming!

  11. Happy April Fool's Day, Shady! Even if I'm a day late, but I'm not a dollar short!

I've never seen any of these shows, but after reading this, I might have to see if any of them are on Amazon Prime movies. The library is closed indefinitely and I know they have Breaking Bad. My aunt and uncle love that show. Check out the song "King of Tweekers" by Rehab.

I'll have to ask Dad about the Great Rupert. I've heard of Jimmy Durante, but I'm not sure if I ever watched him. I know what I'm doing during quarantine!

Have a great Thankful Thursday, dear friend.

    1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

Thanks for coming, dear friend! The April Fools' party is still going strong.

Gosh, I hope you can watch Breaking Bad, The Last Picture Show and Mighty Joe Young. They're my Picks to Click from this game of Six Degrees. Now's the time to binge watch shows while you're cooped up at home. I went to YT and watched "King of Tweakers." It's a cool song and an entertaining video.

When it comes to Jimmy Durante, I suggest that you watch him in the 1963 epic comedy film It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Dozens of major stars from the golden age of Hollywood appear in the movie. I saw it in a theater at age 13 and never laughed so hard in my life.

Stay safe during the quarantine, dear friend JM, and thanks again for dropping by!

    2. Hi Shady,

I was talking to dad about Jimmy Durante, he never heard of the Great Rupert, but he mentioned It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. I might have to check it out!

I think you'd like Rehab. They're a guilty pleasure of mine, that I found through Amazon Music. I'm discovering a lot of music from that app.

Is Breaking Bad on Netflix? If it is, I might break down and joun.

Have a great Sunday evening, dear friend!

    3. Hi, Jessica Marie!

It's cool that your dad remembers Jimmy D in It's a Mad World. If you want to see a film with a cast list that reads like a who's who of mid 20th century Hollywood, watch that one. It's studded with stars and one of the funniest pictures ever made.

I think BB was or is on Netflix. It might also be on Amazon Prime. It's one of the best series in TV history. I just watched a video showing Jesse Pinkman's (Aaron Paul's) new crib in rural Idaho. It's fantastic!

Have a safe and healthy week ahead, dear friend JM!

  12. I declare you’ve been moonlighting on us, dear Shady! I had no idea you were a TV/cinema buff in addition to your music video mastery. Durante truly was a funny guy. Not only did he make fun of his own nose, he called other people “No-noses”. I was surprised to learn he quit school to become a full-time ragtime pianist.

Happy April, dear Shady. “I’ll be seeing you”

    1. Hi, diedre!

How are you, dear friend? Thanks so much for coming by!

Oh yes, television and movies have been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. My big brother took me to hundreds of movies during the 50s before I even turned age 10.

Yessum, Jimmy Durante was a colorful character indeed. I watched his television series in the mid 50s and saw him in numerous guest shots on music variety shows. The Smothers Brothers were cool for having Jimmy on their Comedy Hour twice in 1967, and he was a guest the equally hip Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour three times in 1971 and '72.

Thanks again for joining the fun with Jesse Pinkman and his girlfriend, dear friend diedre. Please stay safe and well until we meet again!
