I Believe in Father Christmas

Can you spare three minutes, dear friend?

This might be my shortest post ever. It was not scheduled. I just discovered something
that I wanted to share with you. Released days ago, just in time for Christmas 2018,
a collaboration of German drummer girl Sina and a group of her young, musically
inclined friends from around the world performing a cover of "I Believe in Father
Christmas," originally recorded by English musician Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake
& Palmer and released during the holiday season in 1975, a major hit in the UK.
The song is about disillusionment, loss of childhood innocence, a protest
against the commercialization of Christmas and a lament that mankind
has not yet achieved peace on earth. However, if you watch to the end,
you will find that the song ends on a hopeful note. These talented
young people inspire me and I hope they will inspire you as well.

"I Believe in Father Christmas" - Greg Lake cover by Sina & Friends

I wish you a hopeful Christmas
I wish you a brave new year
All anguish, pain and sadness
Leave your heart and
 let your road be clear

It's great to see you, dear friend! Thanks for being the early bird this time around as I slip in an extra post for Christmas, a decision I made last night after watching this new video by Sina & Friends. I hope you enjoyed their capable cover of Greg Lake's "Father Christmas."

  3. A lovely song, Shady - thanks for sharing it with us. The older I get, the more irritated I become with the commercialization of not just Christmas, but all holidays. I'm also bothered by the secularization of Christmas. Take "Christ" out of Christmas and it becomes just another winter holiday.

Wishing you and Mrs. Shady a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the coming new year.

    1. Hi, Kelly!

It's so nice of you to join me on Christmas eve, dear friend. Thanks for coming over!

I'm happy to know you enjoyed this collaborative performance by young singers and musicians all over the world. "There comes a time when we heed a certain call. When the world must come together as one." The time is now. These fine young people are calling on us, counting on us, to walk our talk, remember the real meaning of Christmas and keep the spirit alive all year 'round.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, dear friend Kelly!

    1. Hi, Ashton!

It's wonderful to see you, my oldest blog friend! How's that little girl of yours? Excited that Santa's on his way?

Several of my friends have stated that they are taking a more laid back approach to Christmas this year. I agree with that thinking. It makes me happy to know that you have settled into your new lifestyle and that you are enjoying it.

Thank you for following me longer than any other blog friend, Ashton. I wish you, your husband, daughter and your entire family a merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and happy new year!

  5. Oh, I loved this! I remember the first version and always liked it too. What talented young people and I do wish with all my heart that we could give this next generation what we didn't get..peace on earth, goodwill toward men/women. I know all generations wanted this and all generations seem to have gone to war to try and get it. Hopefully it will happen one day. That's my prayer. Have a wonderful Christmas Tom and family!

    1. Hi, Yaya!

I am delighted to see you again one last time before Christmas arrives, dear friend. Thank you very much for coming by!

I'm thrilled that you appreciated these fine young singers and musicians from all around the globe who took part in this collaboration with German drum prodigy Sina Doering, now age 19. I agree that we owe it to the younger generation to do everything we can to fix this broken world.

      Together we will stand
      Divided we'll fall
      Come on now people
And let's get on the ball
      And work together
Come on come on let's work together
      Now now people
Say now together we will stand
Every boy girl woman and man

      Make someone happy
      Make someone smile
      Let's all work together
      And make life worthwhile
      Let's work together
Come on come on let's work together
      Now now people
Say now together we will stand
Every boy girl woman and man

  6. Shady,

This is so beautiful and much needed for today. While I don't celebrate Christmas, I agree with the message: peace on Earth and kindness to all. Let's hope that 2019 is the year that we all let kindness in!

    Merry Christmas, dear friend.

  7. This is beautiful, Shady! I haven't heard this song before by ELP, and I am glad you brought it front and center. These kids are great! I admire them coming together with the respect they show each other, and their hard work arranging and performing this song.

I'm sorry for being so late...I didn't come to blogger on Christmas Eve. I hope your Christmas was nice, and I wish the best for you and Mrs. Shady in the New Year! Take care dear friend!

    1. Hi, Suzanne!

I'm glad you got a chance to see this post and watch these rising young stars perform "Father Christmas." In this collaboration involving singers and musicians all around the globe, we have an example of the world singing "in perfect harmony," as the song and Coca-Cola jingle expressed it all those years ago.

Stay tuned for a stellar lineup coming in my New Year's post on Jan 1 when I present "2019 - Year of the Dell Rat." Take care, happy new year, and I hope to see you then, dear friend Suzanne!
