"Your Love" - The Outfield cover by
First To Eleven ft. Trevor Vogt
(Feb. 2022)

Kicking off today's lineup, retro 80s new wave/power pop goodness
with Audra Miller and her Erie, Pennsylvania band First To Eleven
plus featured guest artist Trevor Vogt, a member of another Erie
based band called Daytona Beach 2000. Audra, Trevor and F211
came through with a million percent cool cover of "Your Love,"
a 1986 hit single by the English pop rock band The Outfield.

Before that, another in-demand band on SPMM Retro Radio,
azure-haired beauty Annalise Mahanes and her Nashville-based
trio IMY2 -- which stands for "I Miss You, Too" -- crushed it with
their version of Bon Jovi's classic rock anthem "Livin' On A Prayer."

And, at the very top of the show, direct to you from Vigo, Spain,
the exciting rock cover band Broken Peach with a sizzling mashup
of two mid-1960s boomer songs, the Temptations hit "Get Ready"
and "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks.

Hi there. As you recall, I'm Dr. Rick, the tough love mentor, success coach
and motivational guru from the Progressive Insurance TV commercials,
welcoming you to my second "Un-Become Your Parents" seminar
being held here in this spacious conference hall at Shady's Place

Thousands have
already attended
my life-changing
musical workshop.

I'm happy to see
your face in the
audience today.

Just a reminder that my books are available for purchase at a table in the lobby.

My seminar will give you the tools you need to avoid becoming your parents.

Now remember... you don't need to introduce
yourself to the mugger in the park.

He'll find out your name when he takes your wallet.

Remember how your parents were "anchored" to songs that were popular
when they were young back in the horse & buggy days? Remember how
they turned noses up and thumbs down on the cool new music you liked?

Don't turn into your parents! Why cling to dusty discs & rusty relics from
your youth that you've heard a million times when you can listen to them
through a new set of ears? The concept is a simple one: I play hit songs
of the 20th century covered by great new artists of the 21st century.

You've heard of TED talks.

By the time you leave this room, you'll be confident, bursting
with energy, vigor and vitality and feeling like a kid again,
all because you took my advice and tried listening
and dancing to new versions of old favorites.
In seminar speak, it's called getting
  Rick-Rolled
Are you psyched?
Are you pumped?
Are you stoked?
Are you ready to rock & Rick-Roll
all night and party every day?
I can't hear you.
 I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

YEAH, that's more like it!
Alright, let's boogie!

Now it's my pleasure to introduce a group of young Kiwi
musicians that are guaranteed to knock your socks off. They're
Rumpus Machine, a sibling rock band from Auckland, New Zealand.

Let's hang out in the same part of the world as I present
an extraordinary Australian band that has entertained
you many times before here at Shady's Place.

Here are Ausssies Kat Jade and Jordan Lennon singing a song
made popular by Starship, the San Francisco band that can be
traced back to the 60s and Jefferson Airplane. Kat and Jordan
are backed by another of the world's great cover bands, HSCC,
The Hindley Street Country Club, as they perform--
"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now."

"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now"
Starship cover by HSCC ft. Kat Jade
and Jordan Lennon (Apr. 2021)

From Adelaide, South Australia, that was lovely Kat Jade, a contestant
on Season 3 of The Voice Australia, along with Jordan Lennon, veteran
of numerous cover groups, fronting The Hindley Street Country Club
band on their cover of "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now." Grace Slick
and Mickey Thomas performed the duet on the original version,
a chart-topping power ballad that was used as the theme song
of the 1987 romantic comedy movie Mannequin.

Up next, the song "Turn Me Loose"...
not the Fabian song your granddaddy
listened to back in the 50s. This is the
song from the early 80s by Loverboy...
the rock band from Alberta, Canada.

START VIDEO!

But this is not your daddy's Loverboy.
(Uh, maybe I should rephrase that.)
It's the Seattle rock band Candlebox
putting a fresh spin on the song in a
virtual performance vid shot in LA,
Salt Lake City, Philadelphia and
Baltimore. Here's Candlebox and--
"Turn Me Loose!"

Helping you "Un-Become Your Parents," that's a 2021 cover of
"Turn Me Loose" by the Pacific Northwest band Candlebox
(wait for it)... not your daddy's Loverboy.

If you're just tuning in, I'm your musical guidance counselor
Dr Rick, here to save you from growing old and turning into
your parents by playing new versions of Boomer era classics.

Now remember, when you get up out of your seat and dance
to the beat of these updated oldies, you aren't "cutting a rug"
as your parents would have described it. We be jammin,
breakin', bustin', gettin' our swerve on, goin' hard,
bangin' it out and freakin' at the crunk rager.

And if you happen to be listening to my seminar on your
car radio and the ear candy's so sick, lit and dope that you
need to stop your rig, jump out and boogie in the street,
U B ghost-riding the whip. I hope you got all that
because there will be a quiz.

The Pointer Sisters had a top 3 hit in 1984 with this next song.
It went on to become the best-selling American dance pop
single of the year. Here's the talented LA-based singer
and multi-instrumentalist Anne Reburn along with
her band of clones doing-- "Jump For My Love!

Your dial is set to S-P-M-M, where we go hunting for the great songs
of the past and bring em back alive. Boss jock Robert W. Morgan
gets you Morganized.  I'm life coach Dr. Rick, here to get you
   Rick-Rolled
teaching you how to avoid becoming your parents by
grooving to fresh remakes of Boomer era classics.

In the fall of 2008, a single by singing star Katy Perry

Canada and three other countries. Back with us to cover

for their exceptionally good covers. They're Singit Live, and in

CHEESEPUFF!

CHEESEPUFF!

CHEESEPUFF!

"Ballroom Blitz" - Sweet cover by Cheesepuff
(Aug. 2022)

Setting the def tone for this rockin' girl power blowout, that was the one and only
Cheesepuff doing a cool cover of "The Ballroom Blitz," a top 5 hit in 1975 for
the British glam rock band The Sweet. All I know about Cheesepuff is that
she's a Brit girl and an up-and-comer on YouTube. Last time I checked,
the sprightly sparkplug and her boo were touring the U.S.A. by car.
Speaking of "def," we've got 3 killer covers of Def Leppard songs
coming up in this exclusive Shady's Place special... so stand by!

I'm Ava Gardner Winters...
star of Obliterated, the raunchy, kick-ass, high octane action dramedy
on NetflixThink Mission Impossible meets The Hangover meets 24.

I lead an elite joint-special-ops team

assembled from the U.S. military and intelligence services.

Our mission... should we decide to accept it...

(and military command says we MUST)... is to

SAVE LOST WAGES!

By that, I mean we need to stop a terrorist network from blowing up Las Vegas.

The archvillain who heads the organization demanded a
ransom in the amount of $1,250 to spare the city from
destruction. Get real!  Who has that kind of money?

My O-team colleagues and I suited-up for spring break battle.

Yep, this is what a real American hero looks like in the 2020s.

Long story short: we took on the mad bomber's minions.

(O.J. ran through airports.  O-Team runs through casinos.)

We engaged the enemy... got the best of them...

and managed to disarm the bomb.

"Mission accomplished!" ...or so we thought.

Now comes Miller time!  This calls for a salivation!

Hittin' the clubs...

Oh, when the working day is done
Girls just wanna have fun

and taking lotsa selfies to post on our social media accounts.

Yes, folks. We celebrated our victory over Dr. Evil with a night on the
town filled with sex, drugs and alcohol (and don't forget rock & roll).

But right in the middle of our rager, we got the sobering news that
the bomb we defused was a fake, a decoy, and that the real nuke
is still out there somewhere and counting down to BOOM time.

There's only one answer - continue getting OBLITERATED!

Completely zonked from hours of hard partying, our challenge was
to suck it up, shake it off and plow through one wild predicament
after another to locate and neutralize the bomb and save the city.

I'm Lana Turner...just plain Lana
...a main character with no last name... can you believe?

I'm a civilian bimbo party girl who gets scooped up at a club by the O-Team
and dragged along with them through their series of wacky misadventures.

Don't assume that I'm just a dumb blonde.

When the chips are down, I always come through for the team.

My superhero power is melting men's minds
by letting them see me in my birthday suit...

like the time I was locked in a sauna with an armed guard outside the door.

I created a distraction by getting nekked and inviting him to snuggle up.

That enabled another team member to blindside and overpower the gullible chump.

More about us and our hit Netflix series in a minute, but right now, back to the music.

From this point on, Lana and I will run down an 8-in-a-row all-girl jam -
the best and most exciting pop and rock covers you're ever gonna hear.

In addition to the three Def Leppard songs I mentioned, we've got
a Battle of the Andreeas, an Aussie mother-daughter duo and more.
Simply put, Lana and I will leave all other DJs and all other playlists

 OBLITERATED!

Lana and I have ways of making you talk.... and you're gonna love all of them.

So, whatever you're doing... STOP!  Watch and listen.
Your eyes and ears are in for a treat!

This next song was requested by a listener who called my toll-free hotline.

musician, producer and new talent developer Andrei Cerbu.

She's Andreea Coman, and here she is with the first of our featured songs by
the British rock group Def Leppard. It's a fan favorite from the band's 7th
studio album Euphoria, a single that topped the U.S. and UK charts
in 1999.  Andreea Coman sings- "Promises!"

"Promises" - Def Leppard cover by Andreea Coman
(December 2023)

When it comes to covering Def Leppard, Andreea Coman is a straight shooter -
the real deal.  Check out the Romanian rock siren's version of another classic.
In 1988, this song became Def Leppard's first top 10 hit on the U.S.
Billboard Hot 100. Andreea Coman induces-- "Hysteria!"

"Hysteria" - Def Leppard cover by Andreea Coman
(August 2023)

Now, here's a dynamite mother and daughter duo from the land down under -
Australian singer Nikki Kosmider-Heuskes backed by her daughter Akasha Starr.
Akasha is an exciting young performer whose looks alone evoke memories of
Belinda Carlisle and other iconic women of 1980s pop and rock.  In the
performance you are about to watch, Akasha and mom Nikki are front-
women for Singit Live, one of Australia's leading cover bands,
as they cover Blondie's 1980 chart-topper-- "Call Me."

"Call Me" - Blondie cover by Singit Live feat.

Now keep your ears on mama Nikki and your eyes on daughter Akasha
as they perform a second killer cover. This song was a #1 smash for
The Supremes in 1966 and for English pop queen Kim Wilde in 1987.

In terms of physical appearance, facial expression and body language,
Akasha bears an uncanny resemblance to Kim Wilde as mom and daughter
once again front the Singit Live band covering- "You Keep Me Hangin' On!"

"Keep Me Hangin' On"  - Supremes/KimWilde cover
by Singit Live feat. Nikki Kosmider-Heuskes
and Akasha Starr (April 2023)

If you're just tuning in, you're watching the hottest women on the boob tube...

leading ladies of the outrageous new Netflix action comedy Obliterated.
I'm Ava Winters, beauty and brains of the crack O-Team strike force.

... And I'm just plain Lana... the O-Team's secret weapon in the battle to
SAVE LOST WAGES!
I'm a secret weapon because, when I shed my duds,
men are putty in my hands, especially evildoers.

You're in the middle of a Shady's Place exclusive - a girls-only
ballroom blitz... killer covers performed by female solo artists,
girl groups and female-fronted bands from all over the world.

More music in a minute, but right now, I need to get something off my chest.

It's about my male co-star...

Navy SEAL Chad McKnight.

Can you say "testosterone"?

McKnight and I fight like cats and dogs.

But, from the git-go, we felt the powerful chemistry between us.

We tried to keep our relationship professional, but the attraction was too strong.

On that night of debauchery when the team celebrated
and got ripped... McKnight and I wound up in the sack.

Now, don't get the wrong idea. We didn't sleep together.  No way.

We stayed wide awake all night long, babycakes. Oh, and in case
you're wondering about the half-ton dromedary in the room
watching us... there's a simple explanation.

"Skittles" always comes around on "hump day."

(BA-DUM-BUMP)

Yep, after makin' whoopee, we like to relax and unwind with a camel.

(BA-DUM-BUMP)

Bad news alert!  Turns out, Chad's a cad. I heard it through the grapevine.

The grapevine, in this case, is my on-again, off-again bestie Maya,
the team's NSA computer expert. She broke the news to me
that my lover boy has been living a double life.

Over on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, he calls himself Nate Heywood aka "Steel"

...and he's romantically involved with Zari Tomaz!

McKnight is a player and he's been playing both of us.
Okay, enough of my ranting.  Let's get back to the music.

I just took another phone request from a listener.  We've already met Andreea Coman.
Now let's hear from the other Andreea in today's lineup.  Andreea Munteanu returns
to Shady's Place to perform Jamaican singer Millie Small's 1964 international ska hit.

I'm going to dedicate the song to that two-timing Casanova Chad McKnight.
All this time, I've been a sucker for-- "My Boy Lollipop!"

"My Boy Lollipop" - Millie Small cover
by Andreea Munteanu (Nov.  2023)

That was perky Romanian cutie Andreea Munteanu, the scarlet fever
of Andrei Cerbu's band camp, with a delightfully bubbly cover
of the 1964 Millie Small hit "My Boy Lollipop."

Lana no-name back with you on S-P-M-M Retrosonic Radio...
the greatest little station in the nation.  Up next, I've got
a cover song by another Australian act - the Young Divas.

Formed in the mid-2000s, the Young Divas were a pop girl group
that consisted of former Australian Idol contestants. Members of
the act included Jessica Mauboy, who went on to a successful
career as a solo recording artist, songwriter and actress. You
might recall Shady Del Knight's 2020 post in which he
introduced Jessica and played her best solo hits.

The Young Divas video you are about to see features New Zealand rapper Savage.

Released in 2007 from their second studio album New Attitude,
"Turn Me Loose," originally a 1981 hit waxed by the Canadian
rock band Loverboy, was the last single by Young Divas.

"Turn Me Loose" - Loverboy cover by Young Divas feat.
Savage (Christmas 2007, highest chart pos. #15 Australia)

WOW!  Our Shady's Place special is going global.
My request line is lighting up!

A listener wants to hear one by Sweet California, a Latin-pop girl group
from Spain. On the 2015 Super Deluxe reissue of their 2014 debut
album Break Of Day, Sweet California shook things up with this
sizzling cover of Toni Basil's 1982 new wave hit- "Hey Mickey!"

"Hey Mickey!" - Toni Basil cover by Sweet California
(February 2015)

We hope you enjoyed our all-girl musical lineup and the chance
to learn about Obliterated, the spicy new Netflix series that
has earned Shady Del Knight's coveted Zeal of Approval.

I'm not sure if or when we'll be back with Volume 2 of
this S-P-M-M radio show... but I'm not taking any chances.

I'm planning ahead - trying on various combat uniforms

so that I'll be good and ready in case Commander Shady
sends us on another Mission Implausible.

What do you think?

I don't need to know what I'll be wearing on our next mission.
Whatever it is... I'll be taking it off in the first five minutes.

Wait a minute, Lana.  We've got another problem.  Commander Shady
is calling from back at headquarters. He reminds us that we are
almost out of time and that we have not kept our promise to
play three Def Leppard songs. He's also peeved that the
Battle of the Andreeas is unfair, pointing out that
Andreea #1 -  Andreea Coman - enjoyed the
advantage of singing two songs, while
Andreea #2 - Andreea Munteanu -
has only performed one song.

Don't worry, boss.  We've got it sorted.  Our final play
of the day delivers the goods and levels the playing field.

CLICK TO START THE VIDEO NOW!

To close the show, Andreea Munteanu fronts the Iron Cross and sings
Def Lep song #3- "Animal."  Now for Ava Winters this is Lana saying
so long. We leave you with our O-Team philosophy. When life deals
you a losing hand, don't get mad... get Obliterated!
