Strange Magic Being Erica!

Hi! My name is Erica Strange.

I'm the main
character on
the Canadian
TV dramedy

Being Erica.

My life, in a nutshell...
not hazelnut... because
I'm allergic, is as follows.
I am a single 30-something
woman, unlucky in career
& unlucky in love, that is,
until I met a mysterious
therapist, Dr. Tom, who,
through some kind of
strange magic, is able
to transport me back to
the past so that I can
have do-overs and fix
my greatest regrets.

Things are definitely looking up for me...
and for you. I just landed a new job as a
member of The Shady Bunch deejay staff.
Starting next year, I will be doing for you
on my radio show what Dr. Tom does for
me on my TV show. I'll be transporting
you back to the past and enabling you
to re-experience the soundtrack of
your youth. The songs I play will
give you a much needed infusion
of energy and enthusiasm that
might have diminished over
the years, especially now
that the COVID - 19
threat has become
a daily challenge.

On my television show Being Erica
I change clothes a lot. I'll be doing
the same here on on S-P-M-M...
even though I'm on the radio.
Hey, don't laugh. It makes
perfect sense to me!

My new show at Shady's Place is called
Strange Magic
Being Erica
and today's preview gives you an idea
of the kind of music you'll hear. I'll
be playing great soft rock and love
songs of the 70s and 80s, like this
one by Peter Cetera and Chicago.

"You're The Inspiration" - Chicago
(Dec. 1984/Jan./Feb. 1985, highest chart pos. #3 Hot 100/#4 Cash Box)

From Christmas 1984 and the early weeks of 1985, the smooth sound of Chicago
and their top 3 hit "You're My Inspiration," Peter Cetera on lead vocals, a song
he co-wrote with David Foster. You're my inspiration, and I'm very happy to
have you with me as I run down the types of sounds I'll be presenting
next year on Strange Magic Being Erica.

This band is best known for its folk-rock
harmony and early 70s international hits
that included "A Horse With No Name,"
"Ventura Highway," "Lonely People,"
"Tin Man" and "Sister Golden Hair."

They're called America but they formed
in London and were originally a trio with
a Brit-American and two members from
the U.S. The band's popularity faded in
the late 70s, but they bounced back in
'82 with-- "You Can Do Magic."

"You Can Do Magic" - America
(Sept./Oct. 1982, highest chart pos. #7 Cash Box/#8 Hot 100)

Magic men, the band called America, with their top 10 single from
the fall of '82-- "You Can Do Magic." You're tuned to S-P-M-M and
I'm Erica Strange bringing you a preview of my new radio show

On my TV series Being Erica, I have
quite a few encounters with players.
Here's the good kind of Player, the
LA soft rock band, with a #1 single
that spent an astonishing 32 weeks
on the chart. This record was one
of the few by a white artist to be
played on black radio stations,
earning the band a reputation
as a blue-eyed soul act. Here
they are, Player, with their
biggest hit and signature
song-- "Baby Come Back."

"Baby Come Back" - Player
(Dec. 1977/Jan. 1978, highest chart pos. #1 Hot 100 & Cash Box)

A monster hit from Christmas 1977 through the early weeks of '78...
"Baby Come Back" by Player. Incidentally one of the members
of Player, vocalist and bassist Ronn Moss, went on to assume
the long-running acting role of Ridge Forrester on the hit
daytime drama The Bold And The Beautiful.

Now let's hear some late 70s
American-made new wave rock
from the Boston band The Cars.
Written and sung by Ric Ocasek--
let the "Good Times Roll!"

"Good Times Roll" - The Cars
(Apr. 1979, highest chart pos. #41 Hot 100/#60 Cash Box)

We're letting' the good times roll on S-P-M-M, and those were Beantown's best,
The Cars, doing "Good Times Roll," a song from their debut album. At the time,
the single only brushed the top 40 in the U.S... but over the years it has grown
in popularity and today is counted as one of The Cars greatest hits.

On Being Erica I'm always looking
for Mr. Right. As luck would have it,
I found Mr. Wright here on today's
playlist. It's Gary Wright, former
member of the British hard rock
band Spooky Tooth. Gary also
played keyboards on ex-Beatle
George Harrison's epic triple
album All Things Must Pass.
With his hit mid 70s single
and album "Dream Weaver,"
Gary Wright helped make
the synthesizer a leading
instrument in rock and
pop music. Here's his
follow up single--
"Love Is Alive."

"Love Is Alive" - Gary Wright
(June/July 1976, highest chart pos. #2 Hot 100/#3 Cash Box)

"Love Is Alive" here on S-P-M-M...
Retrosonic Radio in Futuresonic
Stereo Surround, and you just felt
the spirit of '76 captured by the
Dream Weaver, Gary Wright,
on his second major hit single.
Strangely, "Love Is Alive" was
released before "Dream Weaver"
but charted after it, and spent an
amazing 27 weeks on the chart -
seven weeks longer than "Dream
Weaver," Gary's signature song.
Hung up at #2, "Love Is Alive"
was denied the top spot on the
chart by The Manhattans' single
"Kiss And Say Goodbye" and by
Elton John and Kiki Dee with
"Don't Go Breaking My Heart."

In late 1973 this song was everywhere - on the radio, on stereos and on
stage as The Edgar Winter Group played to rock fans who dug the sound.
Written by band member Dan Hartman who scored a disco hit with
"Instant Replay," this is the blues rock classic-- "Free Ride!"

"Free Ride" - The Edgar Winter Group
(Sept/Oct. 1973, highest chart pos. #10 Cash Box/#14 Hot 100)

From the fall of '73 you just heard
the fusion of blues & rock on the
song "Free Ride" by The Edgar

    1. Hi, Alex!

Thanks for rushing over to become the early bird this week, good buddy!

I suspected that this set of songs from the 70s and 80s would be in your wheelhouse more so than the ones in most of my other posts.

The ELO showender "Strange Magic" is the official theme song for Erica's new SPMM radio show Strange Magic Being Erica which makes its debut next year. Catch her TV series if you can. It's fun.

Thanks again for coming, good buddy Alex!

  2. Tom,

"Being Erica" is a new-to-me series. I didn't find it on Netflix. Is it on cable TV? It looks like a show we'd enjoy. We're catching up on various TV series since March. We have plenty of others sitting in our watch list but I'm always on look for new things. We're just about to finish up the fourth and final season of The Strain. I can't figure out why it canceled. It's well written and the cast are purrfect. Oh well, wonders never cease to amaze me with which shows get canned. Your song features this morning are wonderful selections from the glory day of my youth. 80s mewsic now is thought of as the oldies. I now know how my parents must have felt when we referred to the 50s as oldies. lol Events stay the same but the names change. :) With my headset, all I have to do is hit play on each song and go about what I need to do around the house without missing the sound of each tune that put the groove in my move. Thanks for the stroll through time with some of the hottest hits from the past. Have a great week, my friend!

    1. Hi, Cathy!

Thanks for dropping in, dear friend!

I watched Being Erica on Amazon Prime a couple of years ago. It's a cute series. In each episode, Erica is transported back to an earlier decade and given a chance to fix bad relationships she had with boys, men, her parents and friends. She returns to the 90s, 80s, 70s, even as far back as 1969 in one episode. "Erica," Canadian actress Erin Karpluk, is delightful. I first discovered her in the Canadian-American horror series Slasher, a Chiller channel original also available on Amazon. Erin was so impressive in Slasher that I investigated to see what else she was in. That's how I came across Being Erica. I'm going to look for The Strain which I think you mentioned before. Thanks for reminding me.

I'm excited to learn that this set of more recent songs resonates with you and recalls your youth. I would say that any recordings produced in the 20th century now qualify as oldies. When I was a kid, the mewsic of the 50s was the latest and the greatest, and my folks yearned for the return of the big band Swing era, the popular style of their younger years.

I'm so glad you liked Erica's lineup of 70s and 80s tuneage and that you listened through your new headset. It's the only way to fly! Thanks again for joining me, dear friend Cathy, and enjoy the rest of your week!

    2. Tom,

I found "Being Erica" on Amazon Prime and added it to our line-up. I may sample one of the episodes to get a better feel for it. I did watch a trailer for the show the other day which peaked my curiosity. Thanks for letting me know where you found it. I forgot about AP. I'm sure our parents and grandparents longed for the mewsic from their youth as the tunes I played probably drove them crazy. I quite like big band swing - very nostalgic sound! Enjoy your weekend, my friend.

    3. Hi, Cathy!

Thanks for returning to chat, dear friend! Mrs. Shady and I make heavy use of Amazon Prime. The only thing I don't like is when you get hooked on a free TV series only to discover that you need to start paying extra to watch later seasons. Services like AP and Netflix also yank shows from their listings without notice. Recently I was on season 3 of a 7 season series when it was pulled from the Netflix lineup.

Yessum, it stands to reason that when our parents and grandparents were young and crazy about big bands, their parents and grandparents moaned about that music and yearned for the "good old days" - perhaps the start of the Tin Pan Alley era around 1885.

Those of you who are still running BOTB blog events should consider having a 30s/40s big band showdown now and then. It would be fun and interesting.

Thanks again for dropping by, dear friend Cathy. I wish you and your family a safe and happy weekend. I'll be back with a new post (and a murder mystery) on Monday!

  3. Hi Shady and Erica,

Being Erica sounds like a wonderful show. As you know I have an obsession with everything Canada, where can I find this show?

You had me rocking out this morning. Let the Good Times Roll, Free Ride, and Strange Magic are all of my favourite songs. They were on the mixed CDs I would listen to in art class in high school and it felt great listening to them as I work. Walk down memory lane, thanks dear friend.

I never realized America had other hits besides "Horse With No Name." I'm only familiar with that song and I really like the offering you posted. I do like the style, I might have to check out others.

Have a great day, dear friend.

    1. Hi, Jessica Marie!

How are you, dear friend? Thanks for popping in to experience this sneak preview of another new SPMM radio show Strange Magic Being Erica.

I must admit that Being Erica is the type of series that would appeal more to women and to men, but I appreciated Erin Karpluk's acting in Slasher to such an extent that I said to myself "Wow, I gotta see more of this talented lady." Erin is also known for Godiva's, Life Unexpected, Delete, Reasonable Doubt, Rookie Blue and Holly Hobbie. You can watch Being Erica (and Slasher) on Amazon Prime.

You are the third friend to say you appreciate the more recent tuneage in this post. I'm happy to know that some of Erica's offerings are favorites from your high school years. Yessum, America was prolific as well as terrific. Check 'em out. Better yet, let Erica present their material to you in future volumes of Strange Magic Being Erica which officially begins next year right here on SPMM Retrosonic/Futuresonic Radio.

Thanks again for coming, dear friend JM, and have a super day!

    2. Hi Shady,

I have Amazon Prime, so even better! I think this weekend, if time allows, I'll give it a watch. :)

I will definitely stay tuned to more of Erica in 2021. I'm in the office tomorrow, so I will give your entry another listen tomorrow while I'm in the office.

      Have a great evening.

    3. Hi, Jessica Marie!

Wow, if you have Amazon Prime, then I can recommend several great series. Mrs. Shady and I are working our way through Hunters and just watched an episode a little while ago. There are also several Agatha Christie murder mystery miniseries and series available on Amazon. If you never watched it, I also highly recommend The Americans, the suspenseful spy series that is set during the Reagan administration in the early 80s.

I hope you will take Erica's tuneage to work with you tomorrow. Please stay safe and enjoy your Thankful Thursday. Talk to you soon, dear friend JM!

    4. Hi Shady,

I will definitely check out those series. I've had Amazon Prime for 9 years now, but never really checked out the shows or movies.

These tunes helped me get through a day at the office. I was grooving as I was printing, stapling, and mailing appeals out. I hope you had a wonderful Thankful Thursday!

    5. Thanks, Jessica Marie!

Yessum, you should explore Amazon Prime. Many excellent TV series are available to watch free. Hunter is one we are plowing through at the moment and Being Erica might still be in their listings. Slasher is another free series on AP. I just found season 3 and have it on my watch list.

I'm glad Erica's song selections helped your through your work day. Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend JM!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend too.

    7. Hi, Jessica Marie!

I was mistaken when I told you that Slasher is on Amazon. It is actually on Netflix. I just started watching S-3 and, lo and behold, who shows up in the cast but Erin Karpluk, the star of Being Erica! In Slasher, Erin apparently plays a sketchy school teacher who seems to harbor secrets. I can't wait to watch the entire season.

New post coming first thing in the morning. I hope you enjoy a good mystery. :) See you tamale, dear friend JM!

  4. First, Erica is a real cutie, or rather Erin Karpluk is. Looks like she's in "Holly Hobbie" as well.

Oddly enough, I knew all the songs you chose today. It's weird seeing a Chicago video that doesn't feature the horn section. And what's with all the keyboards? I remember seeing the video 30-some years ago and wondering what happened. Then I remembered Terry Kath "accidentally" shooting himself did. He was my guitar hero.

I just featured America on my Five For Friday last week. I've been doing Yacht Rock artists (I started it when Five for Friday was Two for Tuesday), and I featured Player as another band of that genre.

Gary Wright was also on George's "Cloud Nine" LP, which Jeff Lynne (ELO) produced. Small world, ain't it?

And you rounded the whole set out with The Cars and The Edgar Winter Group, playing a couple of my favorites. Or, rather, Erica did. Give that girl a raise!

    1. Hi, John!

It's great to see you back here at Shady's Place, good buddy! I agree that Erica Strange/Erin Karpluk is a Canadian cutie pie. I suspect she'd win her share of Miss Photogenic titles. Notice how often she changes clothes? :) Erin has a long list of film and TV credits but so far I haven't seen here in anything except Being Erica and Slasher.

I recently read the entire story about what happened to Terry Kath that fateful day. His accidental death by a self-inflicted gunshot was a terrible and senseless loss to Chicago and to the music world. Purists say the band was never the same and never as great after he died, and I tend to agree. His soulful vocals on the band's early material are the real deal.

I think this is the second time I have posted "Baby Come Back," but it has been many years and I have many new and different blog friends now, so I thought I'd insert it in Erica's sneak preview lineup, the goal being to set parameters and give readers an idea of the span of years and range of styles that will be featured on her new radio show next year.

Yes, good buddy, I wish I could take credit for the song selection in today's post, but it was all Erica. :) She knows how to pick 'em. You seem to have enjoyed this set and, if you did, please check your listings for the official debut of Strange Magic Being Erica coming in 2021 to Shady's Place Music & Memories.

Thanks again for joining the fun, good buddy John. I invite you to return next Monday and play an exciting game of Whodunit. Until then have a safe and happy week!

  5. I have not watched this Canadian show probably because I am not one who believes in regrets. It happened that way because it was meant to be. That being said, would I have done a couple things differently..maybe but would I be the same person I am now, probably not. I am loving these songs and was a big ELO fan back in the day. Too bad Rick from The Cars died way too young...same with Mr. Winter. Thanks for sharing these great songs.

    1. Hi, Birgit!

Thanks for coming over on day one, dear friend! I was wondering if you have watched the Canadian dramedy series Being Erica. It's lighthearted fun watching Erica flash back to her earlier years and try to repair damaged relationships with boys and men, her mother and friends, and to assert herself with people who once used and exploited her.

I'm delighted that you enjoyed the soft rock nuggets picked by Erica for your listening pleasure. Yessum, it certainly was a blow to learn of Ric's death, another tremendous loss to music. Edgar Winter is still with us at age 73. It was brother Johnny who died in 2014 at the age of 70 - too young indeed.

Thanks again for dropping by, dear friend BB, and enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Hi, Kelly!

I'm thrilled to see you, dear friend. Thanks for joining me on day one!

I'd be surprised if any of my friends told me they have watched Being Erica. Apparently the Canadian series is not very well known in the U.S. I read that it aired in the UK and in The Netherlands. I found the show free on Amazon Prime and decided to watch it. Set mainly in Toronto, the series enjoyed a four season run. Erin Karpluk's co-star, Michael Riley (Dr. Tom), is also Canadian, a veteran of 40 films and TV shows.

I'm pleased that you appreciated the genres of music and specific recordings in Erica's sneak preview. With that in mind, I invite you to stay tuned for volume 1 of her new radio show Strange Magic Being Erica coming in 2021 to Shady's Place.

Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend Kelly. Please pat Pat for me and enjoy the rest of your week!

  7. Being Erica looks like a cool show I would like. I mean, who wouldn't love the chance to go back in time and fix our regrets? (Not that I have many...moving on) Erica picked really good tunes also because I knew all but one. The end of the 70's was a busy time in my life with having some kiddos and moving from Chicago to Ohio and basically having culture shock. Amish buggies, need I say more? Listening to these songs brought instant memories. I hope all is good with you Shady and thanks for some sweet music and memories tonight! Take care!

    1. Hi, YaYa!

Thanks for staying up late to visit and comment on Erica's sneak preview, dear friend!

Being Erica reminds me a little of Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal and other series produced by David E. Kelley in that it deals with working women and explores the male-female and female-female power structure in the office to comedic effect. I think you would also like Being Erica because of the clothing and hairstyle changes built into each episode as Erica and her girlfriends are zoomed back to the 70s, 80s and 90s to make amends.

I miss seeing Amish buggies, a common sight when I lived in Lancaster County, PA, all those years.

I'm glad you enjoyed the type of music Erica had to offer in this sampler. Stay tuned for her first official show on SPMM Retro Radio coming sometime next year.

Thanks again for swinging by, dear friend YaYa. Take care, enjoy the rest of your week and I'll see you soon!

  8. When I first saw that clip of Being Erica I thought that was a favorite actress of mine, Dana Delany (best known, I guess, for China Beach), but I googled the show and saw that it's not. Uncanny resemblance, though.

That even though Erica's show doesn't "debut" until next year you nevertheless have her playing seven songs THIS year kind of reminds of Broadway where a play may have a week or so of performances before you get to "opening" night, but that's all right.

Like a few of the other commentators I recognize and like all the songs, but that's kind of the point of an oldies show, isn't it? Though not necessarily my favorite, I think the Cars had the most unique sound of the bunch. New Wave, indeed.

    1. Hi, Kirk!

Thanks for dropping in, good buddy! Hey, I love Dana Delany, too, and maybe that's part of the reason why Erin Karpluk caught my eye. I certainly do see a resemblance between the two women. Like Dana, Erin is a great actress who commands attention whenever she appears on screen.

I have Shady's Place posts/shows scheduled years in advance. I found that there are so many great songs available for Erica's S.M.B.E. show that I decided to make room for a "sneak preview" this year to set the stage for next year's official debut. I'm glad you recognized and liked the hit songs of the 70s and 80s on Erica's playlist. It's funny how that Cars single struggled and fell short of the top 40 when first released. It was the spring of 1979. Disco was still going strong and MTV was almost two years in the future. The Cars reaped their biggest hits a few years later when their videos appeared on MTV and viewers dug their edgy American new wave act.

Thanks again for attending the preview party and reviewing the sights and sounds of your younger years with Erica Strange. If you like mysteries then join me next Monday right here at Shady's Place. Til then, til we meet again, enjoy the rest of your week, good buddy Kirk!

  9. Hello my friend Shady! Sorry I'm late to the party but you know, that's the way life is going now. I love the premise of the Erica Strange Magic. It reminds me of the old show "Quantum Leap" with Scott Bakula.

As for the music, Chicago is a great group, but I definitely think they are not the same without Peter Cetera and the late Terry Kath. I really don't like America's "Horse With No Name" but "You Can Do Magic" is another story. Player and "Baby Come Back" takes me back to my single days. I remember listening to it after a broken relationship. Interestingly, my husband's nickname is Player because he used to play all kinds of sports (golf, softball, bowling).

I remember "Let the Good Times Roll" but for some reason I only recently became a fan of the Cars. Sad about Rick Ocasek. As with America, I'm not a fan of "DreamWeaver" for some reason but "Love is Alive" I can deal with.

Edgar Winter is a band I don't know much about. You may remember we saw ELO a couple years ago and I featured them in my A to Z this year. What a great show they put on and "Strange Magic" fits so well here.

I can't believe you have posts scheduled for years in advance, but then again, your shows are so detailed that I can see it would be difficult to just wing them. I've been slacking again in my posting and the last two I wrote did not simulcast to Blogger from WordPress but I just got a notice that I have 200 followers so I better get cracking with some new material before I lose them - LOL.

Hope you and the Mrs. are well. We are slowly getting our clear air back after the fires but just went through a heat wave that even had me struggling to stay cool. Have a great rest of your week buddy.

    1. Hi, Janet!

I'm excited to see you, dear friend! Thanks for being here for "Being Erica" - Erica Strange - as she dishes song samples from her upcoming SPMM radio show Strange Magic Being Erica.

Yessum, time travel is a common theme in TV series and films. Stewie and Brian Griffin time travel on Family Guy. The Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash routinely travel backward as well as forward in time. The short lived television series Timeless went back through history and so did the excellent miniseries 11.22.63 starring James Franco. On her show Being Erica, Erica Strange doesn't attempt to prevent assassinations or change the course of world history, only her own personal history, doing and saying things differently to produce better outcomes.

I figured you'd have a lot to tell me in response to this lineup of 70s and 80s artists and songs. I agree that Chicago is not the same great band without the two members you mentioned. Like you, I favor "You Can Do Magic" to "Horse." I'm happy that the hit by Player recalled your years as a single woman, but sorry it reminds you of a broken relationship. If you were Erica, you could go back and fix that. :) It is indeed an interesting coincidence that your hubby is nicknamed Player. Do you remember Ridge Forrester on The Bold And The Beautiful? I do!

It is also fascinating that you only recently became a fan of The Cars and that you draw a distinction between Gary Wright's two big hits, liking one and not liking the other very much. I'm happy to know that you and other readers are ELO fans. That bodes well, because ELO will be a featured act in all of Erica's upcoming radio shows.

Yessum, I actually have every week's post scheduled from now through the year 2032, if you can believe it. Of course, the sequencing will change a million times in the coming years, and I might not even live long enough to run everything I have planned, but planning is an important part of my life and that's why I laid things out so far in advance. Wow, it's great that you have 200 followers, dear friend. I have 1/10th that number, but as long as you are one of them, I'm happy. :)

Thanks for letting me know that the air is clearing in your region. I was wondering about that. Here in Central Florida we are having the wettest summer I have seen since moving to the "Sunshine State" in 1984. Large areas of our lawn are under water! I hope your hot spell breaks soon so that you and Benny can take your two daily walks in comfort.

Thanks again for your kind visit and tremendous comment, dear friend Janet!

  10. Hi Erica, and it's always good to see a new face offering out the good songs of yesterday and today.

The Cars are really a great group, aren't they! I have always liked them. This band seems timeless because it feels like only yesterday I was hearing "Let The Good Times Roll" for the first time. I guess I don't remember this song from 1979 (I was giving birth May 1st of 1979). I don't think I feeling too much like letting the "good times roll" that month, haha! I was also very sad when lead singer Ric Ocasek passed away. He was very talented.

Another favorite of mine from your post is Player with "Baby Come Back". Again, I must have been asleep, 1977? These songs are still popular among us today! "Baby Come Back" was played frequently at the end of the evening in many of the dance clubs in the 1980's. I suppose the song was a last ditch effort for those troubled couples to make amends for the night...hmmm!

What a treat with Edgar Winter, and "Free Ride". He showed up at a War concert with Eric Burdon that I went to in the early 1970's. He is so talented, as was his brother Johnny. We suffered a loss with Johnny's passing.

"Love is Alive" is a very cool song. Gary and group are so good, with their use of keys and synthesizers. This song was also played a lot in the dance clubs. Another great one, KUDOS Erica!

Chicago is an old time favorite, and was a household name during their hike to the top in the 70's. I was fortunate to see them in Dallas in the mid 70's. They are a pretty loud band, no wonder I'm having hearing problems now!

This was a very cool post Erica, and I'm glad to meet you. Shady does a pretty good job picking talent like yourself to host for him.

Have a great week Erica, and dear Shady!

    1. Hi, Suzanne!

I'm thrilled to see you, dear friend! Thanks for tuning in to Erica's sneak preview. She's just one of the new faces you'll see here at Shady's Place in 2021.

Yessum, I really like The Cars. The MTV station where I worked in the 80s played their videos heavily. Their sound was right in the groove and has stood the test of time. In other words, I never get tired of listening to their recordings or watching their videos. As you noticed, whenever I post a song I place a caption above or beneath it revealing the months the record was at its peak on the chart and hottest on the radio. It's nice to be able to remember what was going on in your life at that point in time, even if you have no memory of listening to the song back then. In the spring of '79 I was enjoying my second stint as a bachelor, hanging out in discos almost every night and sometimes staying out all night long. It seems you and friend Janet (above) have seen a lot more live rock shows than I ever did. It must have been exciting for you to have attended an Eric Burdon And War concert and got to see Edgar Winter as a bonus. I knew you'd appreciate the keyboard artistry of Gary Wright on "Love Is Alive." That song really brings back the spirit of '76, doesn't it? You were lucky to have seen Chicago in Dallas when they still had that great horn band sound going.

I'm glad you think Shady Del Knight is a good talent scout. I think he looked over his roster of SPMM deejays shown in the right column and realized that there are more men "presenters" than women. To add balance, Erica Strange will be joined by many other female DJs in the months and years to come.

I hope you and Scootie are having a good week. We continue to get rain every single day and it is often heavy. Our lawn has several large puddles that never dry up. I have never seen a summer this wet. Thanks again for joining the fun and letting Erica serenade you with hits of the 70s and 80s, dear friend Suzanne. Take care. I invite you to join me next Monday for a whodunit mystery that is sure to entertain and amuse!
