Hi and happy new year!  As you might recall, I'm Jenna Betancourt,

The dystopian mayhem unfolds on the anthology action horror TV

In the fall of 1983, the song "Holiday" became the breakthrough U.S. hit
for Madonna, a young singer/songwriter destined for stardom and world-
wide recognition as the Queen of Pop. On January 14, 1984, Madonna
performed "Holiday" on American Bandstand. At the conclusion of the
number... host Dick Clark asked the up-and-comer what her dream
was for the future. Madonna famously replied, "To rule the world."
Today, the Australian company of singers and musicians known as
Sing It Live rules the world of cover bands, and their outstanding
rendition of Madonna's hit proves it. Watch and listen as Aussie
singing star Nikki Heuskes takes the lead on vocals accompanied
by her daughter, Kim Wilde lookalike Akasha Starr as they and
the world class musicians of Sing It Live bring you the new
definitive cover of this mid-80s dancepop classic- "Holiday!"

  1. When I was a Sophomore in high school me and 3 other girls in Choir sang The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. I love choir in high school. It was so much fun. That song is so much fun to sing and they did a great job.

Agent's of Shield was such a good show. I was really miffed when they cancelled Agents of Shield and Supergirl. Scandal was a good show. I enjoyed that.

Shemar Moore was great on Criminal Minds and then on SWAT. I miss him on Criminal Minds.

Happy New Year. I hope you are well.

Samantha Fox, haven't heard that song in a while.

    1. Hi, Mary & Falcor!

Congratulations on being the first Early Bird of 2026, dear friend! I feel so embarrassed. I published this post at 5 this morning and all these hours I've mistakenly had my blog settings on:

"DO NOT ALLOW COMMENTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!" :)

Just kidding, but the blog world is slowing down considerably, at least in my neck of the woods. Glad things are still going strong for you in Vegas.

Yessum, how about those Duchy Darlings covering Andrews Sisters songs from the WWII era? They do a great job and their popularity continues to grow. That Samantha Fox live performance on Peter's Pop Show is one of the most exciting of the 80s, IMHO. if you crank up the loudness and pay attention to the stage FX and wildly enthusiastic crowd response (mostly males), you might agree.

Yessum, I remember you telling me long ago when we first started following each other that you were a fan of Daisy Johnson and the gang at S.H.I.E.L.D. Mrs. Shady and I were faithful viewers of that show and Supergirl, Flash, Legends of Tamale, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. I watched Scandal on my own and enjoyed it. We both watched Y&R and Criminal Minds, too. I might add that I also watched Grown-ish, another TV series featured in this new year post.

Thank you again for coming over first thing, dear friend Mary. Happy new year to you and my buddy Falcor. I'll be back with my next post just before V-day and hope to see you then!

  2. Songs I know! The Mamas and the Papas, The Zombies, The Supremes! I'm not sure I recognized any others. Not a bad cover of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, but I'll admit my favorite might be The Divine Miss M's version.

A great start to the new year, Shady. Pat and I look forward to your monthly posts.

    1. Hi, Kelly & Pat!

Welcome to my first post of the year (Year of the Dell Rat), dear friend! You take second place and the silver trophy!

Thanks for letting me know which songs/performances were your favorites in this bunch. My personal Pick to Click for this post is the amazing cover of Madonna's "Holiday" by the mother and daughter team fronting the Aussie band Sing It Live. It's easily one of the finest live performances of the 2020s, and I truly believe of the entire 21st century as well. Glad you liked the UK close harmony girl trio covering The Andrews Sisters song. They entertain the elderly in nursing homes and really get some toes tapping among the 90-100 year olds.

Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend Kelly. Take care of yourself, my buddy Pat and the rest of your canine clan and I'll meet up with you next month just before Valentine's Day!

  3. Happy New Year Shady! I hope you had a great holiday season. Ours was good until New Years when we got hit with a lovely virus that's still kicking our butts! It's been about 3 weeks of coughing and snot but hopefully it will be over one of these days. Your music today really helped give me a smile around my Kleenex! The Mamas and the Papas, The Zombies, The Supremes...so good! My Sharona will forever be "my bologna"...thanks Weird Al. Anyway, I'm sure you're enjoying the refreshing cold and snow up here and I would suggest cleaning you keyboard after reading my comment. This virus is a mean one. Take care Shady! I'll post one of these days!

    1. Hi, YaYa & Annabelle!

I'm thrilled to see you, dear friend! Happy new year right back at you, and thank you for hustling over on day one to take the bronze medal.

This is an amazing coincidence, YaYa, because I too came down with some kind of virus the day after Christmas and I am just now beginning to feel like a human being again. I was in bad shape, and I'm sorry that you came down with something as well. I'm sad to learn that you are still stricken, and it makes me appreciate your generous visit and comment even more. Yessum, keep that keyboard clean. It harbors all kinds of nasty germs that can lay you low. I have a very bad habit of licking my keyboard and I really need to stop doing that. :) Just kidding.

I'm pleased that you like the same three original songs that friend Kelly mentioned. I thought that Texas band did a great job with "My Sharona," and the Australian cover band Sing It Live knocked it out of the park with their live version of "Holiday."

We haven't had very much snow yet this season, but we are expecting a 13 degree overnight temperature next Tuesday. I believe that will be the coldest air we have experienced so far this winter.

Please take care of yourself. "Rest, keep warm and drink liquids," they always say. I will be thinking about you and awaiting your next post with an update on your recovery. Thank you again for being a trouper and paying me a visit even though you are ill. I'm happy to know these old tunes helped a little. See you February 13 when I return with my next post, dear friend YaYa!

    1. Hi, Alex!

Welcome to my first post of the year, good buddy!

I agree that Zoe Flores and her Texas-based rock band RoZY produced a cover of "My Sharona" that sounds a lot like the Knack original. Seeing as how I like the song so much, I wanted to showcase their fine cover. Samantha Fox drove the boys in the audience wild with that live performance of her debut hit "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)," a song that leaves little to the imagination. The London bird began her career as a topless model and "Page 3 Girl." Her record company, Jive, was trying to mold her into the UK's version of Madonna.

Thanks again for being here as I begin another year of blogging. Happy new year, good buddy Alex!

  5. Happy New Year, Shady! Sounds like you've got lots of great stuff planned for your space this year.

The only interesting thing I have of note is that I got picked to be on a jury. The actual process is pretty interesting and definitely perks up my journalism instincts, but the case itself is not one I would have wanted to be a part of, and the whole thing has been very disruptive to school, which is leading to some stress on my part there.

Needless to say, I've not really gotten back to a normal schedule yet this year with all that's been going on!

I hope 2026 is kind to you, my friend!

    1. Hi, Ashton!

Happy new year to you and Alexis as well, dear friend! I am delighted to have you here as I plow forward into 2026: Year of the Dell Rat.

I'm feeling you on jury duty. It does require focus and concentration and gobbles up a lot of your time. I'm sorry you are stressed. At the same time, I thank you for your service to the community. I remember serving on a jury. I was hoping to keep a low profile but, wouldn't you know it, the other jurors elected me foreman just because I was a TV producer. They assumed that made me more qualified. It was a disputed reckless driving and DUI case and I really hated to be the one to announce the guilty verdict in the courtroom.

Thank you again for coming by and spreading new year cheer, dear friend Ashton. I wish you and Alexis a safe, healthy and prosperous 2026. See you next month on the 13th!

  6. Hello my dear friend Shady!!! I am here! I just wanted to let you know right away that your first video is not available in my country of Canada! The others are showing fine, though, so please bear with me as this post may require a few visits and comments for me to totally enjoy and absorb it. :)
I love Diana Ross and the Supremes and this song you are sharing is an all-time favourite! I also loved Someday We'll be Together. There are just so many songs that I love by this group!
I hope your 2026 is beginning well, dear friend. I had a rheumatologist appointment yesterday here in Montreal, and it was a blizzard, but fortunately I was dressed warmly and walked slowly...and only needed to take one bus! Very positive results from this appointment, I am happy to say.

I am still having issues with swallowing and coughing, but this is being dealt with by the appointment I had early last week and another one in early March, which may be moved back should a cancellation occur. So that is my news for now, but I just wanted to update you and thank you so much for your thoughts on my behalf in relation to my health.
I will be back later today to absorb more of your lovely post!

    1. Hi, Linda!

I'm excited to see you, dear friend! Thanks for being here as I kick-off a new calendar year of blogging.

I'm sorry the scene from Family Guy is not available for viewing in Canada. It's a hoot. The Supremes video is a "hybrid" which uses the original studio sound and combines it with black and white footage taken from their performance on the legendary T.A.M.I. Show, a star-studded event that showcased the talents of mid 60s pop recording artists. Like you, I love "Someday We'll Be Together," the last Supremes record featuring Diana Ross.

I am pleased to learn that your R-A appointment went well. I also hope you continue to make progress in ridding yourself of that cough and that you will soon be swallowing more easily and eating better. Yessum, I think about you often, dear Linda, and wish you only favorable test results and good news regarding your health as the year unfolds.

If you have time to return to Shady's Place for more reading and listening, I'd love to have you over. Thank you again for joining the fun in my first post of 2026, dear friend Linda!

    1. Hi again, dear Linda!

Thanks for letting me know that you remember The Mamas & The Papas. This featured song, "I Saw Her Again," is one of my top favorites by the group. Over the years, I have not had many blog friends who like Madonna. That has always puzzled me, given the fact that she has been an international superstar for more than 40 years.

If you're coming back tomorrow to experience more of the post, I will welcome you with open arms. Thanks again for your interest and support, dear friend Linda!

    1. AOK, Linda!

It was lovely of you to take such an interest in my content again this month. As you continue to absorb the post, I hope you find some new favorite artists and songs. For example, the "Down At Lulu's" song should take you right back to the height of the bubblegum pop and nursery rhyme rock era. The showender, which nobody has yet mentioned, is a fine cover of Carl Carlton's R&B dance club hit "Bad Mama Jama" performed by Tori Matthieu, one of the most popular students at the famous Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy.

I hope you are on the road to recovery and will be in tiptop shape when we meet again just before Valentine's Day. Thank you again for being here, dear friend Linda!

  9. Hello dear Shady...I hope you are feeling better. This flu and pneumonia has hit a lot of people. Im almost back to normal, just the residual cough, like everyone else. Last Thursday, I had a snow day because we got over a foot of snow. It gave me time to take the remaining Christmas decor down. Friday, we picked up my brother at 4:30am, brought him to Hamilton so he could get his full knee replacement. The left knee and i brought him home the same day!! I had to stay overnight with him and then left before his (now) son came to care for him for the next 2 weeks.
Did I ever tell you that I love the way you marry the hostesses from tv shows with the music? Very well thought out:))
Those little girls have great voices and harmonize so well together. It makes me feel good that young people live the older music. I enjoyed the next one but love theMamas and Papas. As for Jenna's gown...wow! I love it@ yasteful and glittery.
The Samantha Gox song i must have danced to many a time back in the day. I love The Zombies..not zombies but the group and that song! The Supremes are always great and just enjoyed the whole thing. So much fun to listen to.

    1. Hi, Birgit!

I just now found your comment, dear friend. Thank you very much for coming by! You've been extremely busy the last few days taking care of your brother. It was very nice of you to help him get to the hospital for surgery and stay with him during the early recovery period. I know he will appreciate his prosthetic knee.

I am very relieved to know that you are nearly recovered from your recent illness. Yessum, the stuff is really going around this season. Mrs. Shady was the first to get sick and then I came down with it and struggled some three weeks before I was out of the woods. We have a bitterly cold week ahead and I am debating whether to take part in this year's nekked polar bear plunge down at the river. :)

I'm happy that you got so much enjoyment out of my first post of 2026. Thanks for observing that I am plugging favorite actresses and TV series as much as the music in posts like this one. I love Canadian actress Hannah Emily Anderson who plays Jenna Betancourt in season 1 of the TV version of The Purge. She was also featured in Shoot The Messenger, a Canadian political crime drama Mrs. Shady and I recently watched and enjoyed. Hanna is also an accomplished movie scream queen. I have seen three of her Canadian horror films: Jigsaw, What Keeps You Alive and Dark Nature.

I'm delighted that you enjoyed the "Bugle Boy" number by Duchy Darlings. They have successfully captured the look and sound of a WWII era close harmony girl trio. Glad you enjoyed the Mamas & Papas, Sam Fox, The Zombies and The Supremes. In case you missed it, you can watch YouTube clips of Diana Ross performing a medley of her solo hits New Year's Eve on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2026. Diana will soon be age 82.

Thank you again for making time to join me this month. Tell your brother I wish him well. Please take good care of yourself and my buddy Harley and I hope to see you next month just before V-Day when I return with another edition of the AI-Team. I wish you a safe, healthy and happy 2026, dear friend BB!
