ReplyDeleteThanks for the giggles today. I needed this, as today has been a busy day so far.
My Happiness Box Project blog is 5 years old today. Huzzah! It's amazing to see how far I've come.
Have a great Saturday and great weekend, Shady.
Hi, Jessica Marie!
DeleteHappy April Fools' Day, dear friend, and thanks for being the Early Bird!
I also want to wish the HBP a happy 5 year anniversary and congratulate you on compiling, organizing and displaying all those magical memories over the years. They are to be cherished. You have indeed come a long way, Jessica.
Thanks again for the early visit and have a safe and happy weekend, dear friend JM!
Loved The Hollywood Squares and the great, but self-destructive, Paul Lynde. He was so funny. I should re-watch some of these. How else can one see Charro beside Glenn Ford?! I almost feel for this but...almost:) Have a great April Fool's day and watch some Hollywood Squares.
ReplyDeleteHi, Birgit!
DeleteHappy AFD, dear friend, and welcome to the fun at Shady's Place!
I'm glad you remember the late, great funnyman Paul Lynde and his classic zingers on Hollywood Squares. You're right. The game show created many jarring juxtapositions like the one you mentioned. Little known fact: I was once married to Spanish fireball Charo. Make that TWICE. (If you're gonna lie... lie big.)
Are you saying that you almost fell for my announcement of "no more music"? Nay Nay, dear friend. The music and dancing will resume in my very next post, so stick around.
Thanks again for dropping by on your weekend, dear friend BB. Please be extra good to my buddy Harley and I'll see you next week at the BBC!
Hi my friend! I knew right away that this was an April Fool's post. No way would you give up on the Dell! Have a great rest of your weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi, Janet!
DeleteThanks for joining the April Fools' fun, dear friend!
So, right off the bat, you smelled a Dell rat, right dear friend? Yessum, you're right. I'll never abandon the Shady Dell and the great music of the past. They are the bread and butter of my blogging career.
Thanks again for coming by and enjoy the rest of your weekend. I'll see you on Monday when you bring us your "B" post of the A to Z!
Funny! It was the banter and bad answers that made the show. Of all the ones from that era, Match Game was always my favorite. I can still watch reruns of the show.
ReplyDeleteHi, Alex!
DeleteThanks for coming to my April Fools' party, good buddy! I'm happy to know that you are familiar with Hollywood Squares. I'm glad you watched it along with another popular, long-running game show, The Match Game. I watched both. You could always count on spicy humor from Paul Lynde on Squares and Charles Nelson Reilly on Match Game. Peter Marshall and Gene Rayburn were ideal hosts of the respective shows, too, which added to the enjoyment.
Thanks again for your visit and comment, good buddy Alex!
That show was a CLASSIC and I loved it!! (and I'm mesmerized by the MAD gif) ~Kelly (and Pat)
ReplyDeleteHi, Kelly & Pat!
DeleteGolly, four other friends rushed the gate ahead of you and Pat this time, dear friend. I'm sure you could have claimed the Early Bird title again this week if my buddy Pat hadn't needed to stop and tinkle on the way. :) As always, I'm excited and delighted to see you. Happy April Fools' Day!
I'm happy to know that you are another friend who watched H-wood Squares. It's hard to imagine there was ever a time when comic actor Paul Lynde was not a regular and seated in the center square.
Yessum, that Mad Magazine GIF will hypnotize you. Be careful not to gaze at it too long or you'll turn into a zombie and do Alfred E. Neuman's evil bidding. :)
Thanks again for joining the April 1 fun, dear friend Kelly!
Hello Shady,
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing good this weekend.
I loved The Hollywood Squares when they were on. Those people were too funny. They always looked like they were having a good time.
I played an April Fool's day funny on my daughter. I tied a string to a small stuffed animal and left it taped to the inside of the kitchen cabinet. But she didn't open the cabinet that night so the next morning I scared myself when I opened the cabinet and the toy came flying out. LOL
Hi, Mary!
DeleteNo gremlins in sight, dear friend. Terminator Mary has them shaking in their boots. :) Thanks for popping in to experience this year's April Fools' Day sketch featuring the man who owned the center square on H-wood Squares, funnyman Paul Lynde.
That's a hilarious story about how you pranked yourself with a gag intended for your daughter. :) Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised my buddy Falcor didn't pounce on the stuffed critter when it came flying out of the cabinet. Our Toto used to love all of her plush stuffed toys. She guarded them with her life. :)
I'm so glad you are familiar with Hollywood Squares and appreciated revisiting the show. Thanks again for stopping in and have a wonderful week, dear friend Mary!
April Fools Day to you Shady! I was waiting for this post however yesterday I got a little April Fool joke in the way of illness. It hit me like a truck and I was down for the count. Thankfully it's better today and I could come and join the fun. I always loved Paul Lynde. He was so darn funny! Thanks for making me smile today. Jack got this crud first and decided to share it with me but hopefully I'll be done with it soon! Take care Shady!
ReplyDeleteHi, YaYa!
DeleteWelcome to my annual April Fools' feature, dear friend!
I'm terribly sorry that you and Jack were both under the weather in recent days. It happened to me a few months ago when Mrs. Shady caught COVID and then spread it to her son and to me. We all had a tough go of it for a while. I trust your illness was not the dreaded virus. Regardless, I'm sorry you took ill and happy to know you that you have recovered enough to join the fun here at Shady's Place.
I'm happy that you remember and appreciate the humor of comic Paul Lynde. I Wikied him and could hardly believe that he's been gone since early 1982 - 41+ years! It seems like he never left us.
I'll be thinking about you and hoping that you are soon back to feeling 100%. Thank you again for coming to this year's AFD party, dear friend YaYa. Take care, get some rest and have a safe and happy week at The Pines!
Hi Shady! You got me, I'm awful gullible. A scientist on youtube got me last night. He said for the first time in history there was no new news about science. I did get that one since I know those scientists work constantly. Lol
ReplyDeleteMy older sister, Chloe, and I loved Hollywood Squares and yes, Paul Lynde was our favorite. I remember when my family saw him in the movie, "Bye, Bye, Birdie." He sang, "What's the Matter with Kids Today." We all roared with laughter. Such a good movie. I remember Chloe and I liking Match Game too.
Sorry I missed last week, I've been sick again. Feeling much better today. Big hugs.
Hi, Belle!
DeleteI'm thrilled that you could drop in this week, dear friend. Thank you!
Years ago on my old blog, I ran a couple of posts with similar headlines falsely threatening to abandon the Shady Dell and my music format and take the blog in a completely different direction. It's fun to know that you initially fell for my gag. Actually, my next post which begins running this Thursday, April 6, is also a deviation from the norm, but nevertheless it will contain music.
I'm happy to know that you and Chloe were regular viewers of Hollywood Squares and that center square star Paul Lynde was your favorite on the game show. Thanks for reminding us that we should not forget Paul's appearances and the memorable characters he played on other TV shows and in movies. In addition to Bye Bye Birdie which you mentioned, I watched Paul in Son of Flubber (1963), For Those Who Think Young (1964), Send Me No Flowers (1964,) Beach Blanket Bingo (1965) and Glass Bottom Boat (1966). On TV, Paul was hilarious in The Munsters, Gidget, The Farmer's Daughter (starring Inger Stevens, remember her?), I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched.
Yessum, The Match Game had a tone similar to H-wood Squares, allowing the celebrity panelists to come up with numerous punchline answers as they filled in the blanks. Charles Nelson Reilly was the main funnyman on that game show, and I loved Gene Rayburn as host.
Well, I'm very sorry to learn that you've been ill again. Mrs. Shady was also "poorly" several days last week, but fortunately this time I didn't catch anything from her. I am relieved that you are feeling better this week. Please take good care of yourself.
Thank you again for coming over for some smiles and for your delightful comment, dear friend Belle. Have a safe, healthy and enjoyable week!
Tom,
ReplyDeleteHollywood Squares was a hoot. The stars on the show were so much fun! Great April Fools post! How interesting that you shared the Mad magazine gif. While out on Saturday, we were in Barnes and Noble I noticed a Mad magazine on display. I didn't know it was still in circulation. Thanks for the smiles, my friend. Have a funtastic week!
Hi, Cathy!
DeleteHappy Monday, dear friend, and thanks for joining the April Fools' fun here at Shady's Place! I've been typing away for the last hour at CAAC and didn't even realize it is after 7 am and that you already came to visit me. :)
I'm pleased to encounter yet another friend who watched and enjoyed Hollywood Squares. Yessum, a cavalcade of stars occupied the various squares over the years. The images I posted show the eclectic mix of celebrities, from horror icon Vincent Price to sweet, perky girl-next-door Karen Valentine. Of course, it was Paul Lynde and his patented risqué zingers that made the show great.
Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the Mad Mag gif. This is the second or third time I have used it. If you saw an issue of Mad at B&N, it must have been a special edition or a reprint of a past issue, because the magazine went out of circulation four years ago.
It makes me smile to think that I put a smile on your face, too. Thanks again for dropping by and have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy. My next post hits Thursday, same as yours. I hope to see you then!
Sorry I'm late. You know I like Paul Lynde, so happy whatever.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas right back atcha... and have a groovy St. Swithun's!
DeleteI know you're not serious about the "No More Music" here, but it was fun.
ReplyDeleteAnd You reminded me about a very entertaining man that I'd forgotten.
Hi, Cheryl-Lee!
DeleteI just returned from your site where my comment again vanished. I hope you can find it in your spam or moderation folder. Thank you very much for dropping in for some laughs at Shady's Place as we remember Hollywood Squares and the king of the center square, funnyman Paul Lynde.
Yessum, you saw right through me in a hurry and realized that music is the bread and butter of my blogging career and that I would never permananely abandon the format. I'm happy to trigger your memories of comic actor and game show panelist Paul Lynde who has now been gone more than 40 years!
Thanks again for your kind visit and comment, dear friend Cheryl-Lee!
Great April Fools' post! You had me for a minute when you said no more music. I was like, WHAT???? Lol! Have a great April, my friend!
ReplyDeleteHi, Sherry!
DeleteHappy April, dear friend. I'm excited to see you! I'm glad you appreciate what I put together for this year's April Fools' Day observance.
Yessum, you and a few other friends were fooled for a moment or two by my headline announcing an end to the music at Shady's Place. That will never happen, I assure you. I've got plenty to share.
Thanks again for taking a peek at the post and have a wonderful month, dear friend Sherry!
