    1. Hi, Alex!

You're the Early Bird, good buddy, and I thank you for hustling over to join the Halloweeny fun. I watched every episode of The Goldbergs. It was a hoot when Barry transformed into Big Tasty. As you might recall, the title of this post is derived from the lyrics of his rap song and video.

Proof that old school is still cool, the 1981 spooker The Funhouse is must see for slasher fans. Thanks again for coming early and have a great month, good buddy Alex!

  2. Happy Halloween (in advance), Shady! I love the season, but not necessarily the gore or horror. I think the only song I knew was The Beastie Boys!
Enjoy your month and Pat says "trick or treat"!

    1. Hi, Kelly & Pat!

Thanks for daring to enter Shady's Spookhouse, dear friend. You arrived early enough to take sole possession of 2nd place.

What? You don't like gore and horror? Well, in my experience, most women don't. Mrs. Shady refuses to watch movies like Funhouse with me and TV series like American Horror Story, now in its 13th season. Luckily, I have a granddaughter who, along with her boyfriend, love those genres and are always eager to discuss them with me.

I hope you have a safe and enjoyable October and a happy Halloween, dear friend Kelly. Thanks again for coming and for bringing my buddy, your little rascal Pat. I have one more H-ween post coming up on the 29th and look forward to getting together with you then!

  3. Hi dear Shady, I am a huge fan of Autumn but not Halloween. LOL! Never liked the gore, the superstititions, etc. As far as the fun house goes, there was an amusement park here in Montreal for decades! However, and sadly, it closed down decades ago...the owners couldn't keep up with the maintenance and costs. There was a fun house ride where you would get into a roller coaster that stayed on ground level but went through dark tunnels and some scary faces would appear and when you were a child, this was pretty scary! I enjoyed it but it was not a favourite. At the end there was a kind of magic carpet that you rode on...no ride, just your body. And before you got onto the ride and entered this house, there was a mechanical, overweight laughing lady that had the craziest and spookiest laugh! Well, these are the memories I have that were more positive, but I did enjoy your post and browsed through what you have shared here.
Thank you so much for your posts, dear friend, and I hope you and Mrs. Shady have a lovely Autumn!

    1. Oh, I forgot to mention...the amusement park I spoke of in my comment was Belmont Park. This is just a Wikipedia link that tells about it.

    2. Hi, Linda!

You take third place this time, dear friend, and capture the bronze!

Thank you very much for coming to Pt. 2 of my annual Halloween Spooktacular! I'm sorry to learn that you are not a fan of Halloween, gore and superstition. That's AOK. Most women I have known through the years have told me the same. However, there was one notable exception. Circa 1980, I met and dated a woman who was a huge horror fan. Our dates consisted of going to see a fright flick in a theater, then having a bite to eat and discussing what we had witnessed on the big screen like Siskel & Ebert. I was elated to find such a woman.

Hey, thank you for telling me about Belmont Park. I looked at the Wiki article. Belmont reminds me of amusement parks I frequented during the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s. The picture of the park lit up at night is spectacular, and I well remember the house of mirrors. I enjoyed both types of funhouses, those you rode through in a car on a track and the ones you had to walk through that usually included a section with those distorted mirrors. I had so much fun! I invite you to challenge yourself and watch The Funhouse, just as I needed to challenge myself to watch the 2022 survival psycho thriller film Fall. If The Funhouse is a deal breaker for you, try testing your nerves by watching Fall from start to finish. Believe me, it ain't easy!

Thank you very much for your kind visit and comments, dear friend Linda. I have one more H-week post coming up late in the month on the 29th. Hope we can reconnect then. Have a wonderful October and autumn season!

  4. Happy Halloween Month!
Psychosocial is my favorite song from Slipknot. That's a good guitar cover.
Ozzy! Now you're playing my kind of music. lol
Some covers are good but I still like the original's more.

The Funhouse was a crazy movie. I will be watching all the horror movies I can this month. At least my daughter loves the movies as much as I do.

I hope all is well with you. Have a great Halloween month.

    1. Hi Mary & Falcor!

Thanks a lot for dropping in to see what condition my condition is in! Ha! I knew you'd dig "Psychosocial." That Asian guitar whiz covers all the metal classics and has a huge YouTube following. Her gimmick is that she usually performs partially nude! I also figured you'd enjoy a classic MTV video that brings Ozzy back to life just in time for Halloween 2026.

Wow, I envy you, Mary. It's great that you and your daughter both love horror movies. Please marry me!!! :)

Thanks for the H-ween wishes. I wish the same for you and my buddy Falcor. Take care of yourself, dear friend Mary. Be sure to carry pepper spray and a stun gun when you leave the apartment, and I hope to see you again on the 29th when I conclude this year's Halloween Spooktacular!

  5. Tom -- Some of the most ugly and nasty looking masks/makeup I think I've ever seen!  Not only are you great at finding forgotten music, you also find the really scary stuff for Halloween.  I wonder how you decorate your house -- the local kids don't dare come anywhere your front door.  ... 1. Hi, Jim!

Thanks for coming to my second Halloween party of the season, my friend!

You're right, Jim. The monster/creature makeup used in The Funhouse is possibly the most frightening I have ever seen. It was designed by Rick Baker and applied by Craig Reardon. The result was a drooling ghoul with a face only a mother could love. :) The actor who played the monster is Wayne Doba. Doba, who had been working as a mime on the streets of Berkeley, was discovered performing in a Miami restaurant by director Tobe Hooper and was picked to be the monster "Gunther." Gemini says: "Doba’s extensive background in mime and dance heavily influenced his performance in The Funhouse. He utilized strange, erratic, and jerky body movements to make Gunther appear deeply unsettling and subhuman. At the same time, his performance successfully captured the child-like and tragic nature of the character, a core element of Hooper's vision."

When I was between marriages in the mid 80s, my bachelor pad was filled with horror movie posters. In my living room, I had life-size cardboard cutouts of Freddy Krueger and Elvira: Mistress of the Dark. Nowadays, I don't decorate for Halloween at all.

Thanks again for reporting in, friend Jim. Stay tuned for the third and final chapter of my 2026 Halloween Spooktacular, coming up on Oct. 29!

  6. Happy Halloween in my favorite time of year! I hope I'm not too late to comment. I've been going full speed on our family reunion that's happening next weekend. I have a ton done but when you're expecting 50 or more family the whole thing can make me crazy! But it will get done. I've been decorating, food preparing and lots of praying for good weather. So far, the weather is looking great and hopefully everything will fall into place It won't be as scary as your fun house post though! I remember taking my boys to many haunted forests, and things but we only did a haunted house, fun house once that turned not so fun! I was sure if a fire broke out we'd all be toast! My bestie, Donna, came with us and one of her twins ended up with a bloody nose when panic arose and pushing began and his nose hit the back of one of my kids head! I love Halloween but prefer calmer fun houses! I wish you could come to our fun house reunion. I'll have plenty of pics to share and will finally have something to post about. Thanks for your fun, fun house theme and I do hope the colors are changing on your trees, and fall is in the air! Take care Shady!

    1. Hi, YaYa!

Thank you for coming to Shady's Spookhouse Pt. 2, dear friend! You are never too late to comment, but I am trying to maintain my policy of blogging only 3 days per month. Of course, I routinely break that rule (don't tell Mrs, Shady) because I like to visit the blogs of friends like you during the "golden week" as I call it. The golden week is the 7 day period leading up to the publication date of my monthly post. By visiting my friends first, preemptively, I can let them know when my 3-day blogging window officially begins. If a comment comes in on the 4th or 5th day of my post's run, I usually bend the rules again and write a reply. In doing so, I wind up on blog duty closer to two weeks than the intended three days, but so be it.

Yessum, you have demonstrated year after year that Halloween is your favorite season and holiday. When you blog about your family reunion in a week or so, I will make a point of returning to the blog scene so that I can read your report and comment on it. I hope the weather cooperates.

I have never been in a haunted forest. It sounds cool. When I was a young boy, I always decorated my room for Halloween and enjoyed inviting my friends and cousins to tour the room and give me feedback on it. One fixture of my annual display was a "dead body" under my bed. I created a cloth dummy and put a pair of pants and boots on it. The fake legs and boots stuck out from under the bed. I draped rubber creature masks over lamp shades so that they'd emit and eerie glow when the light was turned on. I always had a spooky "Sounds from a Haunted House" record album playing in the room, too. It was great fun!

Wow, the panic, chaos and injury you described at that haunted house were unfortunate, but I can easily picture it happening. Many of today's haunted house visitors demand greater, more intense shocks and thrills than kids did when you and I were young.

It is very kind of you to wish that I could attend your family reunion. If I do come, can I bring the Yeti from Creepy Woods as my +1? :) As I mentioned, I will return from my hiatus and visit your site as soon as I see the post about your family festivities.

Yessum, the trees are starting to change now. Mrs. Shady and I were on the road today taking a family member to the airport. On our journey, we saw the beginnings of autumn splendor. I'm sure the trees look a lot better over your way where the temp typically dips lower.

Thank you for taking a look and a listen, dear friend YaYa. I hope my little sweetie Annabelle is doing well. FYI, my third and last Halloween post will drop on October 29. Have a great week ahead and I will see you again soon!

  7. This is Birgit! How are you my dear friend!? Where did you find Trump’s picture before makeup? That head looks like something from The Thing, John Carpenter’s version, and then I realized The Thing and Rumpy are one and the same. Yeah…I don’t think I would go into this fun house. I like the original Laff In The Dark from Crystal Beach, On. Lol. I must smit, I did not listen to some of them because it was just too heavy metal and they go into that singing that just sounds evil to me and I am not religious at all but icchhh.i don’t mind Ozzy and listened to this, believe it or not. There is one where, I thought it was Lady Gaga but it isn’t. I don’t mind here either although I would never buy a CD or want to listen to it again. I know the Beastie Boys song which is one I like the most. Oh well, it is Halloween month. I’d rather listen to the soundtrack of Dracula starring Gary Oldman. I hope you are seeing more people less enchanted with Resident Rump. I hope he loses both the senate and the house. I just don’t trust these crooks.

    1. Hi, Birgit!

Thank you for being bold enough, bad enough and mad enough to enter this world of darkness, dear friend!

Yessum, I love both versions of The Thing. The original 1951 film is the better, IMO, in terms of fast pacing and witty, overlapping dialogue. I also love the Gary Oldman film Bram Stoker's Dracula and have watched it several times just to get a glimpse of Winona's goodies. :)

What? You don't like evil sounding heavy metal? Well, as you have witnessed, I usually only indulge in the genre around this time of year. It's like movie and TV series The Purge. Once a year, I put pop and doo-wop back on the shelf, let the demons out and have some devilish fun. It's cathartic. With that reference to Lady Gaga, I think you must be referring to Maria Brink, lead zinger of the LA-based hard rock/alternative metal band In This Moment and their shocking song/video "Big Bad Wolf" released as a single 12 years ago. The veteran band remains popular and busier than ever, having released the single "Heretic" featuring Australian singer Kim Dracula and recently dropping Witch, their 9th studio album containing covers of the Sting hit "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and the Pink Floyd classic "Another Brick In The Wall." In this Moment is currently performing in the Taste of Chaos tour with the LA-based rap rock band Hollywood Undead.

I'm pleased that you made time to swing by, dear friend BB. Thank you very much for your visit and comments, I'll be back October 29 with the final installment of this year's Halloween Spooktacular and hope to see you then. In the meantime, have a great month and take good care of yourself and my buddy Harley!
