Anne Reburn

Kicking off my first show...
that was a cover of Elvis Presley's
holiday hit "Blue Christmas" by
Anne Reburn, the lovely lady
of La La Land, along with her
singing clones, and before that,
the opening titles sequence of
season 12 of my hit television
forensics drama CSI: Crime
Scene Investigation and the
show's iconic theme song
"Who Are You" by The Who.

Hi again! I'm Morgan Brody.
As you recall, I'm a CSI Level III
on my television series. Here at
 Shady's Place, I'm playing DJ
and hosting a radio show called

  CSI : COOL SONG     INVESTIGATION

on S-P-M-M Retrosonic Radio.
I'm presenting cold case files
(dusty old records), searching
high and low for clues as I
probe unsolved mysteries,
like why didn't this song
or that song become a hit,
or why don't more people
know about this artist?
Now, I might look like your kid sister,
the girl next door or a fashionista mall rat...

but, let me assure you, I'm a seasoned pro, meticulous
in my work. I dot every "i" and cross every genre to find
and play for you the best and coolest songs in the world.

introducing a great song that
has the word "cool" in the title.
Here's Audra Miller, front-
woman of a band with a cool
name, First To Eleven aka
F-211. Based in Erie, PA,
First to Eleven is a pop
and alternative rock band
that derived its name from
a game called Volleybonk,
a mix of tennis and volley-
ball played with a yoga ball.
In Volleybonk, the first team
to score 11 points wins.

Now that you know the rules of the game, listen to a cover that's too cool for
school, as the band performs a song that was a hit for the family indie pop

Morgan Brody bringing you a special all-female holiday edition of
  CSI : COOL SONG     INVESTIGATION.
on S-P-M-M... the station with heart, soul and spirit.

Lucy & Martha Thomas
At this time, I'm proud to introduce Lucy Thomas, an outstanding teenage
singer and recording artist from the city of Wigan in North West England,
home of the legendary Northern Soul club The Wigan Casino, and just
up the road from Liverpool, the burg that gave birth to The Beatles.

Surely the area's rich musical history influenced Lucy to start performing at
an early age. She was a Semi-Finalist on "The Voice Kids," hosts a popular
YouTube channel where she uploads her covers and originals, and she has
already released three albums. I think you'll agree that Lucy is an old soul.

Lucy is here along with her gifted younger sister Martha to sing two
enthralling duets, both performances diamond quality gems. First,
the sister duo covers a song composed and first recorded in 2002
by the Norwegian-Irish duo Secret Garden. In the years since,
successful versions have been released by Josh Groban,
Westlife, Aled Jones and Celtic Woman.

  1. Good morning my friend Shady. Am I really the first today?!! When I watched TV more, CSI was one of my favorite shows. I stopped watching so I haven't seen episodes with Ted Danson. I have seen the CSI: New York and Miami versions too. My hubby and I like to make fun of David Caruso's way of talking.

That said, these songs are great. I think my favorite of the bunch is Silent Night. The Fiddler's song is pretty lively and an interesting Christmas sound.

It is EXTREMELY windy here today. I'm crossing fingers I can get Benny walked and back home before we get blown away. I have a new washer and dryer coming today and a holiday boutique tomorrow to prep for. Hope you and the Mrs. have a great weekend buddy.

    1. Hi, Janet!

My goodness, you're up early today, dear friend. Either that, or up late. :) Thank you very much for coming and congratulations on being the Early Bird!

If you are a fan of CSI, then I urge you to watch those Ted Danson seasons. The quality of the series remains very high all the way to the finale. Mrs. Shady gets a kick out of "Mr. Cool" - "Carrot Top" Caruso on CSI: Miami. We also enjoyed him on Crime Story and NYPD Blue.

I'm thrilled that you enjoyed this batch of seasonal sounds by female artists, the first of two such posts that I will offer before Christmas. I'm pleased that you singled out the "barberpop" quartet Scarlet Street doing a lovely rendition of "Silent Night" as the showender. I'm also glad you liked hurdy-gurdy musician and vocalist Patty Gurdy and her refreshingly different sounding holiday song.

I'm sorry to learn that you are experiencing a very windy morning in the greater Bay area. Let us hope no wildfires break out, or the situation will quickly go from bad to worse. I hope you get Benny walked safely, can take delivery of your new appliances, and that your boutique event goes as scheduled tomorrow. You'll be happy to know that I am finally over my bout with COVID. I tested negative yesterday! I hope you and the other stricken members of your family have bounced back by now as well.

Thanks again for coming by so early in your day, dear friend Janet. Have a safe and happy weekend!

I've seen more people playing the hurdy-gurdy this past year than in my whole life. Challenging instrument.

    1. Hi, Alex!

Thanks for being here for the first of two Christmas specials to be presented at Shady's Place this year, good buddy!

I'm glad you like the look of CSI's Morgan Brody. She became a favorite of mine during the last few seasons of the series. I'm surprised to learn that you have seen and heard other hurdy-gurdy artists this past year. I wasn't looking all that hard, mind you, but German miss Patty Gurdy is the only one I've encountered. She really knows how to get the most from her exotic instrument, doesn't she?

Thanks again for joining the seasonal celebration, good buddy Alex. Happy holidays to you and your family!

  3. Well, my hands down favorite this time is the Thomas sisters' "O Holy Night" Such big voices coming from such young ladies! You may recall that last December on my own blog I featured three versions of "O Holy Night" by The Three Tenors, Ted Neely, and Mariah Carey. Had I known this version was out there, I would have played that, too.

My second favorite is Helen Gurdy and Fiddler's Green's "The Yule
Fiddler (Christmas Time Is Coming 'Round Today)" I have to admit that it's a good thing you told me they were German, or else I would have thought these were Irish musicians!

My third and final favorite is Anne Reburn and her Xeroxed backup singers. I think this is like the third time you've had her on. Always good to hear from her.

    1. Hi, Kirk!

Thanks for coming to the Shady's Place office Christmas party, good buddy! Brian Griffin is dancing on the table with a lampshade on his head, and Chloe - The B---- in Apt. 23 is with Denny Crane in the coat room..

I'm delighted that you are the first to mention Lucy & Martha Thomas singing the title song of the post, "O Holy Night." Obviously, I am equally impressed by the power that comes from those young sisters with old souls.

I am also thrilled that you appreciate the hurdy-gurdy and fiddler band performance by Patty Gurdy and Fiddler's Green doing a holiday song together. If you check out this link, you will see that Fiddler's Green is a German band that plays Irish folk music:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiddler%27s_Green_(band)

That video of Patty fronting Fiddler's Green was uploaded to her channel in the fall of 2020. The following summer, 2021, Patty lost her home in floods and told us about her plight in the following two videos:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1Z7Uc0O8pg

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxaPQEWz0Jo

Yes, this is the third or fourth time Anne Reburn has appeared at Shady's Place. I actually have an entire post coming soon that is devoted to her and her clone backup singers, so stick around and check your local listings.

Thanks again for staying up late and joining the holiday fun, good buddy Kirk. Have a super week!

    1. Hi, Kelly!

Thanks for dropping in, dear friend! I'm very happy to see you. I hope you and Pat and the rest of your dogs are doing AOK this weekend. I noticed that your area was in a severe storm box again yesterday. Hope all is well.

I'm delighted that you join Kirk in liking the powerful rendition of "O Holy Night" performed by the singing Thomas sisters who live in northwestern England. I was thrilled to find their channel on YouTube.

Thank you again for your visit and kind comment, dear friend Kelly. Take care of yourself and have a great week!

  5. I was in choir in high school so I know most Christmas songs since we used to travel to children's hospitals and sing for the kids there during Christmas time. I love Josh Groban's version of You Raise Me Up. He has such a nice voice. . The sisters did a good version but I still like his version more. I loved CSI, it was such a good show.

    1. Hi, Mary!

How do you like that, dear friend? Your comment on my blog went right through today, while my comment on yours got stuck in spam! Sometimes I think the blog gremlins are jealous of our friendship. :) Thanks for coming to my holiday party featuring seasonal sounds by female artists around the globe.

Awww... that was so nice of your choir group to visit children's hospitals and sing for the ailing kids at Christmas time. Thanks for mentioning the Josh Groban version of :"You Lift Me Up."

Yessum, when I introduced Morgan Brody in her sneak preview, you told me that you were a fan of CSI. Morgan will be back before you know it with another episode of her radio series Cool Song Investigation, so stay tuned.

Thanks again for joining the fun, dear friend Mary, and have a wonderful week!

    2. Hi again, Mary!

Blog gremlins, indeed, dear friend! This follow-up remark of yours must have insulted the rascals, because they snatched it and hid it in the spam folder! I just now found it while looking for today's comment. This is craziness!

Thanks for helping me boost my miserably low comment total, dear friend Mary! :)

  6. Hello and hope your weekend was good. I am sorry for not being here..I say that a lot!! I am having a health issue and came home Friday doubled over with pain in my lower intestines...again. I also have fresh blood a feel a bit nauseous so I was quite tired. I'm sewing the Dr this Friday. My colonoscopy came back good so...not sure what's happening. The weekend I had to decorate more plus put up my village and nativity which I create from scratch. I was a bit tired but I did listen to your wonderful Christmas melodies. Blue Christmas was done quite well, I must say. I...was not jip to the 2nd song but oh..I love the 3rd one that sounds Irish..Celtics but the galnis from Germany. You go girl! The harmonies of the sisters is amazing and love the Josh Grobin song and O HOLY NIGHT was popular last week wasn't it? They sang it with much grace. The last one..they harmonize well but I am not a fan of this version of Silent Knight because they song some of it I that "off key" style. I can't think of the right wording g but I hope you know what I mean. I just am not a fan which is why I can't sta d Pentatonix or whatever their name is...lol. I wish you a fantastic week. I did make apple muffins for Michael but, when he didn't watch gues who gor ro the muffins and scared down about 5 of the. Before Michael got a hold of rhe great Gazoo. His farts have been atrocious.

    2. Hi, Birgit!

Thanks you for coming over and leaving not one, but TWO comments, dear friend! Any help I can get boosting my miserable comment total is greatly appreciated. :)

I am terribly sorry that you are poorly again, Birgit. Mrs. Shady was experiencing symptoms similar to those you are describing. They found out she had an ulcer. I hope your doctor can get to the bottom of it and find solutions for you. You deserve to feel good and enjoy life. Harley needs you to be at your best whenever you take him skunk hunting. :)

I'm sure your holiday decorations look terrific, and they carry even more meaning because you made them from scratch.

Anne Reburn seems to be a hit with most readers every time she appears and performs here at Shady's Place. I have an entire post dedicated to her in the pipeline, so stick around for that. After Anne, you kinda lost me naming numbers of songs instead of titles and artists, but I am pleased that you enjoyed a few of these holiday offerings.

Oh NO! Are you saying that my buddy Harley ate most of your apple muffins while hubby wasn't looking? Go, Harley GO! :) He's a regular canine Dennis the Menace, isn't he? I love him.

Thank you again for your kind visit and comment, dear friend BB. I hope and pray you feel much better soon. Take care and I'll be seeing you later in the week.

Please scroll down to Part 2 of your comment for Part 2 of my reply. :)

    3. Part 2 of my reply:

Yessum, I am happy to report that I took a second COVID test on Friday and it came back negative. I went and got my infusion this morning and am just now getting back home from the clinic. I'm thankful that I didn't need to delay my treatment.

Thank you again for your concern and your best friendship. Now let's concentrate on getting you fixed-up, BB. Take care of yourself. I hope you feel better by the time I come see you at BBC on Wednesday!

  7. Hi Shady! I enjoyed this post and just loved Patty Gurdy and that Christmas song. I'd never heard it before but it was so fun to watch them and hear them sing. I also hadn't seen that instrument before either but she did a great job. My next favorite was the version of "You raise me up" by Lucy and Martha. I got all teary eyed watching the video as it reminds me of the closeness I have with my own sister. (I'll be in Chicago this coming weekend to see her and have our annual Christmas gathering) The duet of "Oh Holy Night" was superb! What talent those two have! Emily Linge did a good job with "River" but Joni Mitchell songs are always so depressing! But I like them anyway! I guess I'll sign off with a Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Shady and hopefully all is well with you both! Have a good week Shady!

    1. Hi, Yaya!

I'm excited to see you, dear friend! Thanks for being here for the first of two December posts featuring the sights, sounds and songs of the holidays.

I'm pleased to have another friend single out Patty Gurdy, the unique and talented hurdy-gurdy player and vocalist from Germany. That was indeed a festive performance with the German band Fidler's Green backing Patty on a holiday song that's new to many American ears, including yours and mine. All my life, I have known about the hurdy-gurdy, but Patty's channel gave me my first exposure to an artist who specializes in the instrument, uploads lush, full color, professionally produced videos, and performs in a variety of styles from traditional folk songs to rock. Patty also writes her own songs and introduces them on her channel. In the summer of 2021, Patty lost her home to severe flooding in Germany, but fortunately she has been able to get her life back on track in the year- and-a-half since the tragedy.

You are also not alone in favoring the Thomas girls and their renditions of "You Raise Me Up" and "O Holy Night." I was totally in awe the first time I heard the sisters sing those inspiring, religious-themed holiday songs. I am very happy to know that you were touched by their performances and reminded of how close you and Midge have remained through the years. I wish you a safe trip to Chicago to see her and Hope dog and join other family members in a Christmas celebration. I hope all goes as planned.

I'm pleased that you also enjoyed the piano playing and singing of Emily Linge on that Join Mitchell cover.

Yessum, all three of us have recovered from COVID just in time to enjoy the heart of the holidays. I hope everyone on your side of the screen stays safe and healthy as well. I hope the weather cooperates for your journey to Chicago this weekend. Take it slow and easy.

Thank you again for coming and Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family, dear friend YaYa!
