"Beach Boy Gold" - Gidea Park
(July 23, 1981 perf. on Top Of The Pops)
Kicking-off our star-studded anniversary special with
"Good Good Good Vibrations" and their hit Beach Boys medley,
that was Gidea Park, the creation of English singer/songwriter
and record producer Adrian Baker. That clip showed the group
in the summer of 1981 performing live on Top of The Pops.
The Regents before them, my name is Mar-Mar-Mar Mar-Marvel Ann.
I'm one of the stars of the slasher comedy flick Psycho Beach Party (2000)
and one of the memorable characters in the Shady's Place series
A.A. MEETING
...a tribute to the beautiful and talented actress Amy Adams.
Set in 1962, Psycho Beach Party is a spoof of 1960s Beach Party
and Gidget movies along with the slasher genre of horror films.
The story follows Florence "Chicklet" Forrest, a Gidget-like character...
as she flirts and surfs in a small beach town. Cowabunga!
When Chicklet starts experiencing blackouts, severed body parts start
turning up on the beach. EEW!!! Could the incidents be connected?
Ya think??? SPOILER ALERT: This is not a boat accident!
The plot might surround Florence...
but the boys surround me...
because this beach bunny's got what it takes and knows how to use it.
They call Florence "Chicklet." Well, I kinda look like "Cricket" -
Cricket Blake - the character played by Connie Stevens
on the TV series 77 Sunset Strip and Hawaiian Eye.
I also have a Marcia Brady thing going on. Oops - wardrobe malfunction!
Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!
So, here I am, pretty in pink, beachy keen and the center of attention.
I always bring my two plain Jane girlfriends along to
make sure guys look at me and only me.
I've got radar for buff beach boys.
My top will probably come off in the waves, too.
Incoming, girls!
Studly surfer at 12 o'clock!
Oops - another wardrobe malfunction, and I didn't even get in the water yet!
Would you please join me in case I need help again?

Hello! I'm Donna the Prima Donna, one of
Shady's Angels

Shady's Angels don't battle bad guys. We play
the greatest songs of the 1950s and early 60s.
If you're a doo-wop fan, the Angel song I am about to play will bowl you over.

Recorded by The Belmonts, this ditty was a top 30 hit at the end
of summer in 1962. A year later, Dion took the melody, changed the
lyrics and turned it into my theme song "Donna The Prima Donna."

The song I am contributing to Shady's 17th anniversary extravaganza
is indeed a great one, and so is the performance you are about to see.
It's by the Icelandic singer-songwriter and musician known as Laufey.
Influenced by jazz greats Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, Laufey
rose to international fame and widespread critical acclaim in the
early 2020s and is credited with bringing back jazz to Gen Z.
Upon its release in 2023, the original song Laufey is about
to perform reached 1 million streams in less than 24 hours.
The bossa nova/jazz pop song was released as a single
from Laufey's second studio album Bewitched which
broke the all-time record on Spotify as the biggest
debut for a jazz album in the platform's history.

The gimmick is that every song we play has the word "You" in the title.
The "You" song I'm about to play is by Bonnie Pointer, former member
of the famous Pointer Sisters. After leaving the sister group in 1977,
Bonnie had moderate success as a solo artist, this being her biggest hit.
Penned by the Motown's Holland-Dozier-Holland writing
and composing team, the song was originally recorded by
The Elgins who scored a top 10 R&B hit with it in late 1966.
